Such an amazing and interesting car!
From what I heard at another forum there was ONLY 1 STREET LEGAL 917 built. It was made for Count Rossi exclusivly, the chief of the Martini & Rossi Racing Team

0-62.5 mph in 2.7 seconds
Top Speed 220 mph (aprox. 352 km/h)
Some Versions 246 mph (aprox. 394 km/h)

One German rebuilt a 917 to german road specifications.

Beautiful! Absolutly amazing. Can anyone build me one? Please....I'll love you forever! :dunce:

Really, it is an amazing car. Just hearing it go down the street would send chills up my spine. 220 MPH is quite a feat for a road car though this one does have quite an advantage over most. Great find man!

IMO this is the ULTIMATE street legal car! This thing is just an absolute beauty. It performs hella good also since its a 917! I will try and find videos. :D BTW look at the rear tires! :scared:

From what I just heard that picture IS REAL!

The driver is count Rossi driving his 917 from Stuttgart to Paris.
His car got its registration and license plates in Alabama, with one condition, never show up there...
Porsche could not get it road legal in Germany.
But it was road legal in the states. The car was a former testbed for a anti brake locking System ABS.

The white 917 was road legal in germany, you can see the original german license plates. It was built up from frame resepcting german laws for road legalisation.
It is not easy to get a racing car through the german TüV (Technical Observation Union), but somehow he managed it.
By the way I saw a report about a road legal Porsche 910.

But this 917 is still better looking IMO but then again performance on the 962 is amazing.
The 917K not only is a awesome car. Its the premium of cars. The design of it is just about modern of this day. The motor is hell.. But then it comes to my mind... Does that road 917K have air conditioning? It must be hell in the cockpit.

Hmm...doesnt it have windows though?

Who gives a crap about sissy little things like A/C, or comfort when you have a car this fast!
Well, afterall the car is in Germany, and thats in a northern area so it must be cooler. But here in Florida is kinda something you NEED in the summer and you look for it.

But you are right, why have a fast car with crap like A/C and comfort utilites.

Awesome, I never imagined there was a road legal 917

It's a racecar... I don't know if you have ever heard any sort of racing engine pulling off ahead of you, but it is unhealthily loud. I'd be surprised if there weren't any regulations at all.
