Forget ramming, and hosts quitting, the phone ringing is the worst possible event which can occur when I'm racing online

Normally, I forget you can't pause, press start and put the controller on the table. That's me in last place. I've now taken to finding as much of a straight as I can and aiming myself down before answering, then making the phone call short and sweet whilst racing one handed (Right analogue stick forward, left index finger on shift up) before resuming the race, albeit a few places back. This technique has meant that I've often missed calls as I can't get to a straight quick enough.

So, my question to you is, how do you guys deal with this situation?

Let it ring. If I'd wanted to a conversation I'd have phoned them

I just cuss to myself a lot, ditch the race and hope to hell the phonecall will be worth it, though it rarely is.

I've got the sound loud enough to drown out any ringing. If not I always ignore it til the race is over and check who called.

I have a friend who must answer the phone whenever it rings, even if he's in the middle of a tense game... It's quite annoying. But I can understand why because he only uses a pay-as-you-go mobile so incoming calls are free.

But yeah... if you have an answer machine use it.

i've got a GF, so there really is not much point answering the phone any more.

i read this saying somewhere. teenagehood is the last time one enjoys the sound of the phone ringing.

I park on the side, put the 4ways ON and then answer the phone, cause here its illegal to drive & take a phone call in the same time :P

i wait to finish the race then call them back and yell at them for causing me to almost crash my car, though i dont tell them it was in a game ill let them figure that one out themselves. i feel a guilty concious will make them think twice before calling me again.

I learn the Hard way. I always had it next to me while I play the game Online. I use G25 H shifter and Clutch, and its a pain in the butt to use phone and switch gears and keep the racing line.. So now its far away as possible from me.

Park at the side, answer the phone, its only a race...

Pretty much how I go about it. It's just a game and it's not like I can't attempt to race again after my conversation is over. I typically will answer the phone though since more often then not it's at least mildly important.

if its on a mobile use a bluetooth head set best way, house phone hate them things never stops ringing and yeah, if ya got a gf just dont answer it anyway nothing but problems lol GT comes first

Over the weekend my brother watched as a completed two laps of Fuji and retained first place all while texting with one hand and driving with the other....Oh and it was in manual :-)

whenever I need to answer the phone (and I usually try to, as it may be my next employer inviting for an interview :sly:), I quickly grab it, put it on my shoulder, catch it with my head tilted - while left hand is on the g25, right hand on H-shifter. I've got a good skill for that, using the same technique in real life (also manual gearbox).
I could use a Nokia bluetoth headset, but currently it's connected to a PS3 to speak over to my mates in COD4.

I don't know if I could even stand phones back then. I'd rather do just about anything than answer a phone. No news is good news as they say. I often think if I could go back in time, I wouldn't bother trying to stop Hitler or Stalin when they were mere youths - I'd stop Alexander Graham Bell!

Mobile phone - Answer the call, put it on 'Loudspeaker' and the place the phone on the table, and continue racing. Works fairly well, as long as my T.V hasn't got the volume up high.

House phone - No choice but to pull over and stop, then go and answer the call.

How do I deal with it? Simple, I don't race online, ...

and if I did, I just use telepathy.

👍
The best way to answer the call while playing. :D (oh, and I have a cordless phone, which makes it all so much easier :sly:)

+1 It would be cool to have a 'phone' button in game, so you can actually see the driver calling on his cellphone. :D

I can ignore the phone, that's not a big deal. But what is a big distraction is when my dog starts licking my foot or starts chewing on the PS cords!!!
