Debatable. Remember that 2009 was a season with completely different rules than previous season in terms of the cars and their downforce. So basically every team had to start from scratch, and Red Bull definitly also had increased chances with two very good drivers. Newey did pull them towards the front of the grid, but I don't think we would've seen an equally strong Red Bull team if it had not been for the rule changes.
 
I would love for this to be true, especially considering I started watching F1 after he retired. :sick:

I've always wanted to see what the hype around him was in an actual race and not from me watching replays.

Adrian always worked better when he had Patrick Head to bring his ideas to Earth though, he's always designed very fast cars but very unreliable ones. This year and all those McLarens and Leyton House-March cars prove the point.

He can help turn the fortunes around, but he cannot win championships for a team alone, he needs consistent drivers, a strong team principal, a good engine, and he needs a major rule change.

Of course if two teams were on par, but then both teams would have a good team of personnel wouldn't they? ;)
You basically need a team that works well together, that alone gets you places, but sticking a super star engineer or driver in a team of average personnel will only get you surprise results, it won't be enough to turn a team around.
There are many examples - the afforementioned Newey at Leyton House, Hill at Arrows, Villenueve at BAR, Alesi at almost every team, Senna at Lotus...
 
Schumi is and will always be my favourite driver, but I would not welcome his return. He hung up his helmet for a reason And for Mercedes Nah he's too tight knit with Ferrari for sure. If he came back with Mercedes Raikonnen would "serious'd" for sure haha
 
^Heh, but the "reason he hung up his helmet" is not as clear as it appeared ;) The thinking is that he was pushed out by Ferrari in favour of new blood in Raikkonen and that he never really wanted to quit, but was convinced otherwise.
The fact he's tried to and is trying again to make a comeback certainly plays to this conspiracy. And Luca's comments of the "old" Schumacher are quite interesting too.
 
yeah I've been out of the game as long as Schumi has. Ever since the confusion, the rule changes and all that from bernie I gave up following f1, so don't hear anything that's said, or any of the debauchery haha
 
Well for me he is the best and I like the idea of a comeback with mercedes because when Ferrari signed alonso ( which I dont like ) I was like well I`ll havo to search for a new team to support so I think its going to be mercedes =)
 
I predict 2010 will be the most absorbing contest ever for the Crown. 19 races. Schumacher will be competitive, as well as Hamilton, Button, Alonso, Massa, Vettel and Weber, and there could be some surprises, too! Schumie may not even be the fastest German.
 
You're all speaking like he's already signed the papers. Well, you're all in for some heart-sinking disappointment when 'ludes gives us the bad news in the form of a link.
 
Its hard to not believe it now, when we have Ferrari saying themselves that Schumacher is going for it. Although Merceds do have other tempting options appearing - Kubica as always and Heidfeld isn't rubbish.
 
The decision is a no-brainer really: "Do I choose the seven time world champion or two drivers that have won one slighty flukey race and the other none in 8 years?" (Not that they're bad drivers of course :D)

I meant they have other options of Schumacher doesn't go for it, not that they are choosing between them (obviously its an easy choice). So they aren't going to be rushing to conlude a deal.

Bernie must be rubbing his hands in glee. F1 has had so much publicity this year its untrue. Next year appears to have even more in store.

I disagree.

The guy's going to be 41 and won't have driven in F1 for three years - he won't do as well as you think he will, even if he is the Great Michael Schumacher. Will he suck and be running around with Campos and Lotus? No, but he won't be doing a 2002 by any stretch.

I predict top-six finish in the WDC, but the title... no.

Given that he's gotten a bit older sure I wouldn't rank him down that much, I'd actually say he could very well go top3. I'm sure he'll suck the first few races and then get back into the vibe and have good chances.

Either way whatever predictions people do, it's great for Formula One that he's back because the new season will have a fantastic group of drivers and really good competition and that it's all that matters :)
 
Obviously, this guy is a big name in the sport, but he hasn't raced for three years. A lot can change in three years, especially in F1. Mr. Schumacher will have to cope with things like the new cars, new rules, advances in technoligy that affect F1. Not to mention some the hot new talent in F1, like Lewis Hamilton, who won the World Championship in his SECOND year and has already made a name for himself.

No doubt Michael will perform, and perform well with Brawn GP.

That's cool Sharky, totally respect your opinion dude. 👍👍 But that is my prediction that he will come back straight to the top.

People forget that he raced BEFORE traction control and all the other aids were implemented into F1 cars, and F1 technology has been going backwards due to the budget caps that are being implemented. He's raced against some of the best drivers of all time and his ability to provide information to his race engineers is unparalleled in this generation. So I'm not going to doubt his ability to come back to the sport and be right up there with the best or write him off at all. 👍

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to say he will dominate every single race he enters but he will shake F1 to it's very core and show the young whipper snappers that he's still a force to be reckoned with. :cool:
 
+1 on what Mafs has just said, Schumi has shown that he possesses adaptability and raw talent, and I think he shall impress this season.

But this will be the first time I will have gotten to see Shuey race F1 with out watching an old race. And I'm 20 Ludes not sure about the other guy but he says hes 8 so ill take his word on it. I just happened to not start watching F1 until '07 after he got out of the sport. I was more of a Sports car racing myself. Will be nice to see how much he has lost but im going to guess not much.

Driving is just like riding a bike, sure the first time you get back on after a few years you might crash horribly and be laughed at (true story), but you get back into the swing of things. Sure he hasn't been racing F1 for 3 years but he has done some charity races and track days and other PR events so its not like he has just been sitting around for 3 years.
