I remember playing this game on another forum years ago and it was quite funny reading some of the replies.
I enjoy playing the 5-Letter Word Game here on the Rumble Strip and think that this offers an additional way of being creative with words, so hopefully others share the interest.

The Game:
  • using couplets (two lines) of rhyming iambic pentamter , say something funny about the person who posted before you or somebody in the public eye, perhaps.
The Rules:
  • no profanity
  • keep it friendly
  • follow the framework detailed below

A Couplet of Rhyming Iambic Pentameter will follow this simple framework:

da-Dum da-Dum da-Dum da-Dum da-DO
da-Dum da-Dum da-Dum da-Dum da-DO

but you can, if you wish to, rhyme on the first and/or third 'iamb' as well the crucial fifth.

Example:

Camilla Parker Bowles has got it MADE
She's wed unto a Prince but needs a SHAVE

OK, now you go :D

I do not think a thread like this should live.
But for aboe a fair shot I will give.

Much thanks TB, but not sure as to why
You feel as though a thread like this should die

Liquid says, this could be cool,
Providing of course, that no-one's a fool,

The success of this in time we'll see,
And that should answer PeterJB.

Am I do I right?

A syllable I think you missed there, Shem.
I coughed so hard I had to spit out phlegm.

Jet badger is right and I am mistaken?!
Must be the results of the booze I've been takin'.

Chutney, chutney, chutney, chutney, jam
Sticky and covered in bees I think I am.

Swiggity swooty, swiggity swooty,
I'm coming home for a piece of that booty,

Swiggity swooty, swiggity swooty,
I'm coming home for a piece of that booty,
Oh no, no, no you're not, I've changed the lock
Observe the restraining order or I'll call the cops

On Liquid's thoughts, I concur,
The challenge though, could deter,

No... not enough syllables... was like hitting an unlit skip when I got to this :D

You need to take your time in writing when the syllables allowed reach only ten.

I know - it seems that people can't quite grasp
But then again perhaps they can't be *rsed

Look guys - some tips on how to play the game:
Two lines of five; the fifths must sound the same

But should you wish to give us something more
You could rhyme first and fifth - or maybe more!

So there, a little prose to show the way
Be fair, have fun, then go - enjoy your day :)

To preach, pray and verse, is good for a thread
Yet gifted with curse, we screw up instead

We needed a clue, to know what's what
But sadly for you, poets we are not

To attempt a rhyme, if but a token
Would take too much time; the owl has spoken

It's here that I perch, all alone at my desk,
For rhymes I did search, as my own are grotesque.

Hard to reach the standard, of liquid above,
My thoughts just meandered, so off I will shove!

I love that we've now, finally got it.
Some of the preceding were downright 🤬

I am not a poet, as you can see.
I'm but a servant, yours truly, TB.

With that I leave you to do as you will.
Puns to have fun with and much rum to swill.

TB, are you sure that was an iamb?
Haven't you got anything without spam?

What are you having for breakfast this AM?
I'll have spam, eggs, spam, spam, bacon, and spam.

These word game threads are as good as it gets,
next to lobster thermidor aux crevettes.

Omnis is versed in Python, and quotes them in his rhyme,
Their talent he did syphon, to great effect this time.

I wonder if he likes Palin... Jones, Idle, or John Cleese
This rhyme is really failin', from it Monk promptly flees.

Friend, that's not iambic pentameter.
You failed poetry class-- oh noetry!

Hey Monk - you're rhymes are cool you're getting close
I think it's just of form you need a dose

So how many words are there needed to be
To make one's two-liner appear on TV?

I'm not sure how this could be counted as spam
Because technical poetry apparently is not everyone's jam

The count of words is secondary, see -
Five pairs of two with rhyming fifth's easy:

I-know They-know He-knows She-knows, Do-you?
I-hope This-verse Does-serve To-give A-clue.

You know, guys, you're supposed to be doing iambic pentameter. That's five iambs per line. Ten syllables per line.

edit: I tried to teach the grammar that you'd need.
Alas, before I posted I was tree'd.
