What tyres are we using? Because Racing brakes are useless without racing tyres. As is outlined by Scaff here.

It is a rather long winded discussion, but it does give a great insight into braking and tyre usage. Read the quote in the first post, our Scaff is a very clever man!

I've been using the standard tires it comes with. Do tyres matter in world cicuits>practice mode? There is no tyre indicator there.

Tire type is extremely important. In fact, I'd say tires have a bigger effect on performance than any other part in the game.

In practice mode the tires don't wear out - it would be frustrating to be trying to do a bunch of laps and to have to pit every few laps. Also it's no fun when your grip levels change so much that you only really have an opportunity to set a record maybe four laps out of ten.

I dunno, I think Arcade mode is better for these tests. That way you know everyone is driving exactly the same thing. But if you want to continue with GT mode, feel free. You should just specify every detail, like which mods (you said racing brakes), which tires, whether you did an oil change or not, and so on.

Oh I see. Well in that case I think we should stick to the reglar tires with racing brakes as on mod. No oil changes [ car was purchased new ]

Mertzen is referring to the Nurburgring, not the High Speed Ring.

Oh and I got 8:25.886 on my first lap. I was about 1.5 seconds ahead for the first quarter of my second lap but I messed up and I didn't feel like continuing... I have to get to bed early anyway.

The Caterham is fun! It's hard to find the limits, and everything about it is different from your typical car. The tires squeal pretty easily but you don't lose grip. The gearbox is strange - all the gears are so tall. Handling really is excellent and very stable and well balanced, but it's hard to get a feel for it because the suspension feels very floaty.

It is indeed a very fun car. Quite controllable. The gears are tall but it also has to do with the motorbike engine.

FWA knew it was the nurburgring since he mentioned loosing it a adenauer again last night. Maybe a typo.

I'll update the first post to reflect your time.

doh! never let me post when im half dead.....that was supposed to be 8'13.963

ya, was little bit of Clarkson Syndrom ("POOWWEEEEERRRR!!!") going into the second lap, hopped the curb and spun.....followed by cruch and the rear end met the wall.....ill go again today, i know i can get possibly another second out of that car.....need to keep it flat through flugplatz, that car is really great, just cant stand the stock gears though....the top half of 4th and all of 5th and 6th are basically useless....

Great timne there Andres. The gearbox is indeed a bit weird. I do use 4 and 5 on the final straight though.

I am having another go later today. i hope to shave off another second or two.

I gave this a go last week when I saw the thread. my lap was a 7:59.235. I could get into the 7:55's, I'm sure, I just went for two laps, the first to get used to GT4 physics and the 900* setting on the wheel (I've been racing in ToCA 3 for a while), and to learn the car. the second lap I went for it. there were pleanty of mistakes, so I'm sure I could drop off plenty of time. after that, I went to bed cause it was 2:30 in the morning. I did the lap in arcade mode with a stock Caterham Super Seven. medium tires, no adjustments under the quick tune option as well.

rock.

That surely is a great time. I am not sure if the medium tires are the same as the on that come standard with the car.

ok, I went back after I was used to GT4 and the car. my new time is a 7'47:421. I knew there was more time left in the car, but I didn't realize that much. I wasn't able to drive at 100% of the cars ability. I could only get to about 95%. I had to drive conservatively in a couple places, or else I would have gone off. but, that's my new time. anyone else with a better feel of where the limit is than me will surely be able to beat it.

rock.

Wow. Remarcable time. COuld you do this same time in GT mode > World Circuits > Practice. Only Mod racing brakes.
