Robot Appreciation.
League of Brobots.

I've done a search before anyone complains and there seems to be no robot appreciation thread. (You can thank Famine's 'where's WALL-E Picture for the inspiration.)

By simple definition a robot is a machine which performs a manual labour task. It is a combination of mechanical and electrical components and is fully or semi autonomous. I'm sure many members of this site are as fond of our metallic friends as I am so lets discuss and show these wonderful creations from the world famous, fictional R2D2 to lesser known, real world, personal NTXbots.

Rules for posting.

Posts should include a picture and some information.
Please note - the machine that built your Ford does not count.
Please stick to one 'bot per post to keep the thread organised.

My Favourite......

Wall-E7.jpg

Name: WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth class)

Type/Class: Waste management robot

Autonomous: Fully

Bio: WALL-E is composed of a box structure made from a metallic components based on a twin track system for mobility. The main housing conceals a PV charging panel from which WALL-E can absorb light to be converted into power for operating.
Upon the main body is mounted a set of bifocal optical censors on a moveable stem. Between the optical censors WALL-E has a cutting laser. The body also features a pair of arms situated on linear actuators with several degrees of freedom.
WALL-E seems to possess AI and has a hoarding disorder. Although never stated WALL-E's gender would appear to be male.

Does Robocop count? He's awesome as this video shows.

EDIT:

NAME: Jeff Robocop
Type/Class: Robot/Cop/cyborg
Autunomous: of course
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Bio: He's a cyborg who does police work that's way too dangerous for us humans. He's also a greedy asshole who takes your whole fridge when he wants dessert.

He is mostly a robot, I guess the name says it all. 👍 Wanna tell us a bit about him?

geoff2bp.png

Name: Geoffrey Petersen

Type/Class: Late show sidekick

Autonomous: Only where there is a plug-in and even then only his head and right arm.

Bio: Built by Grant Imahara from Mythbusters, Geoff made his TV debut on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson on April 5, 2010. One running gag between Geoff and Craig involve a repeated back and forth "In your pants" typically ended with the comment "Balls." Juvenile? Of course, but it Ferguson. If you're looking for highbrow, you're clearly watching the wrong show.

kintore_z.jpg

Name: Kintore-Z

Type/Class: Umm... The worst personal trainer ever?

Autonomous: Until it breaks, yes.

Bio: Kintore-Z is the world's most useless robot! Well, you may ask me what the most useless robot in the world does, won't you? To that, I say he is an ugly robot that does push-ups! Until, he falls apart, that is. :indiff: To add to the appeal of Kintore, his skull even separates after he falls apart and gives him foam eyebrows! Watch and be amazed.

Gre.jpeg

Name: General Grievous

Class/type: Cyborg

Autonomous: He's part biological, so yes.

Bio:
General Grievous was once a fully biological being of Kaleesh origin. Due to an explosion destroying his body he was rebuilt using robotic limbs. He is a skilled warrior who uses Lightsabers as his main weapon. He was also charged with the command of a droid army. He's an unsavoury character who suffers from slight asthmatic problems.

Yeah, of course that counts. Lets add a Robot Wars model.

rwmkill.jpg

Name:
Sir Killalot

Class/type: RC Battle bot

Autonomous: No

Bio: Sir Killalot, a semi-humanoid robot with a blade mounted on a lance and pincers formed from a set of emergency services Hydraulic Rescue Tools nicknamed the Jaws of Life. Killalot is sometimes considered the "leader" of the house robots.

r4p17gadgets.jpg

Name: R4-P17

Class/type: R4-P Series Astromech Driod

Autonomous: Yes

Bio:
R4-P17 is best known for being owned by Obi-Wan Kenobi and for it's decapitation during the battle of Coruscant (Episode III) by a buzz-droid. R4-P17 started it's life (like most R4 units) with a conical shaped head. The unit was apparently involved in a trash compactor mishap. Anakin later found the damaged unit and replaced the head with an R2 unit dome. George Lucas decided the R4 was actually a female astomech droid. :odd:

Wheelybigcheese.JPG

Name: Wheely Big Cheese

Class/type: Heavyweight Battlebot

Autonomous: No

Bio: Wheely Big Cheese is a remote-controlled robot built by Roger Plant that competed in the UK series of Robot Wars during Series' 4, Extreme 1 and 5. It was twice a semi-finalist and known for having what is regarded as the most powerful flipper in Robot Wars history, reportedly being able to flip a Mini. It once demonstrated it's power in Series 5 when it threw another robot out of the arena from the centre of it, throwing them 15 feet in the air in the process. 2 were built, one was scrapped and then bought privately for restoration, and the other was bought out by another fighting robot organisation.

Here is the flip in question:

440px-Mr._Gutsy.png

"Are you ready to die for your country, you commie son of a bitch?"

Name: Mister Gutsy.

Class/type: Combat-variant Mister Handy in the Fallout universe.

Autonomous: Fully.

Bio:
Mister Gutsy, unlike the Mister Handy, is a dedicated combat robot and is easily distinguished from the Handy by its olive drab paint job, WWII-era US Army roundel insignia and the replacement of its British butler voice with an American drill sergeant's. More likely than not, due to the conflict with China that caused the Great War, Mr. Gutsies often scream anti-communist epithets.

Solid-Snake-vs-Metal-Gear-REX.jpg

Metal Gear REX

Metal Gear REX is a Metal Gear prototype that was jointly developed by DARPA and ArmsTech Inc for the U.S. Army in the early 2000s.

REX is a walking bipedal tank that has the ability to launch nuclear warheads from any terrain on earth. The rail gun on it's right side is able to launch warheads without worry of radar picking up the warhead since it's not dependent on rockets.

REX was truly impregnable but it had one major flaw which was the radome on it's left side. This design flaw was done on purpose by Hal Emmerich, the lead engineer of the REX project (but who had no idea at the time that it was meant to launch nuclear missiles) because he believed "nothing can be complete without a character flaw".

More info here if wanted.

NoxNoctis Umbra what is that machine?

hedonismbotj.jpg

Name: Hedonismbot

Class/type: Probably the most useless robot in existence

Autonomous: Yes

Bio:
Hedonism Bot is a robot modeled after an ancient roman hedonist, with the notable improvement of being his own couch. He has a bowl of grapes with him at most times, except when his servant Djambi covers his belly with chocolate icing. He's made entirely of gold and was apparently built with taxpayer's money. Hedonismbot contributes the most out of any robot to global warming. He also has a very short attention span.

Oh i need to find more info lol, its been a movie that I watch when I was lil kid, titled Robot Jox

Sorry but Chaos 2 was always boss.

Chaos_2.jpg

Autonomus: No

Bio: RC robot from robot wars, won 2 uk championship and one of the top 3 or 4 robots ever to make the arena

I probably should be doing work but I'm having too much fun with this thread. No transformers mentioned yet? Don't mind if I do....

starscreamt.jpg

Name: Starscream

Class/type: Alien Robot thingy

Autonomous: Yes

Bio:
Easily the most entertaining character in G1 series, Starscream is treacherous and constantly plotting to over through Megatron. Starscream can transform into an F-15 Eagle and is the air command for the Decepticons. There are many variations of Starscream as he has featured in almost every incarnation of the Transformers franchise.

_51394016_smallerpictureofbothrobotconcepts.gif

Name: N/A

Class/type: Search and rescue

Autonomous: Semi

Bio: This robot was created as a university project to help find victims of the Christchurch earthquake. It's a tracked vehicle which 'sees' using a Microsoft Kinect to create a 3D account of what's in front of it and determine where survivors could be. For more info see here .

Cylon, from the new (and recently ended) Battlestar Galactica series.

I think we all know what's the best Combat Robot out there.

800px-Razer_at_Heatherton_in_2005.jpg

Name: Razer

Class/Type: Combat Robot

Autonomous: No

Bio: Razer is a combat robot that competed on the British television series Robot Wars. It was constructed by Simon Scott and Ian Lewis from Bournemouth; the team later expanded to include webmaster Vincent Blood. Razer was designed and constructed in 1998 to participate in the second series of Robot Wars, but subsequent modifications and improvements enabled it to remain competitive until its retirement after the second series of Robot Wars Extreme. Despite gaining a reputation for being unreliable,[1] it was champion of the fifth series of Robot Wars, runner-up in the sixth, and won the first two Robot Wars World Championships.[2]
Razer's weapon is a piercing arm which exerts approximately three tonnes of pressure per square inch (465 kg/cm2, 45.6 MPa) at its tip. The arm was designed to pierce opponents' armour plating and break their internal components, rendering them impaired or immobile. This weapon was inspired by the principle of the brake press—a piece of industrial machinery used to bend metal—and maximises damage through the use of hydraulics. The arm is also an integral element of Razer's winged self-righting mechanism, which rolls the robot back onto its wheels if inverted. In later series of Robot Wars, an interchangeable hook was attached to the arm to lift robots immune from being pierced. The popularity of crushing and piercing weaponry in robot combat events is attributed to Razer, which inspired many imitations.
With a record of 40 wins and 6 losses (one through concession) in the UK Robot Wars series, Razer is recognised as one of the most successful competitors in the programme's history.

terribley.jpg

Name: ICub

Class/type: Useless Robot Archer

Autonomous: No not really....

Bio:
So someone had the bright idea of creating a robot archer. One that can teach itself to aim. Judging by the video, we aren't exactly in trouble just yet, took it a fair few goes to hit the target and even then it sucked in the distance department. Not sure why you make it an archer instead of just attaching say a gun to it's limbs but whatever.....

Best real world combat robot? Not by a long shot!

800px-Phalanx_CIWS_test_fire_-_081107-N-5416W-003.jpg

Name: Phalanx

Class/Type: Military Robot

Autonomous: Mostly

Bio: Designed to protect US military shipping from missile threats, the Phalanx system utilizes the M61 Vulcan cannon system, and is able to independently target and engage enemy threats independent of bridge control utilizing nothing but its own built-in radar, sensors and computer systems. In other words, it can still function even if bridge control has been compromised.

This system is so sensitive and accurate that it has been adapted for land use to defeat mortar and rocket attacks on US ground installations.

C-RAM_3.JPG

Now imagine that with an army of T800s marching up behind it.
