Good luck! I know you can do it. I know you can.

If you think horror stories will help, I've got a couple from close family members. PM if you want to hear it.

So do I.👍

I remember when my dad used to smoke. He quit because it was hurting his performance in the triathlons he does. It was really ****ty for him(me too 'cause I had to deal with him) the first 2-3 weeks, but after that it was a walk in the park.:p

Good luck!:)

Thank you all.

It's so sick because I'll have a cigarette in my hand, and I want it and I don't want it at the same time.

That's some serious bull**** I could do without.

I saw some TV show once where a guy went to the doctor and they found a spot on his lung. He was then informed that he had cancer and six weeks to live.

The guy who used to sit next to me at work also died of lung cancer. It was slow, painful, degrading and sad. His wife had to come pick him up on his last day. He needed help off the toilet. He died less than a week later. His poor wife.

My grandfather has lung cancer.

My dad has emphysema.

Ya know, I just looked around on the internet and I cannot find any pictures of damaged lungs. I wonder why? I can usually find anything in a matter of a few minutes. If you can find any post 'em please.

I with ya on that,. I'd like to quit, but I don't at the same time.

What was your method? Cold turkey, patch, gum, other? How long since your last cig?

My method.

My last smoke was this morning. Doesn't sound like any great accomplishment, I know. But before that it was yesterday afternoon. Before that is was Saturday afternoon. So one a day for three days is an improvement over 20+ a day for 20 years. But it has to go completely. In fact, right now would be a smoke break for me so I guess I'll go suck on my inhaler for a few.

I'll address the inhaler in a later post.

Here's a method that works for some people:

- Put ALL of your cigarettes in the blender.
- Throw the remains in the trash.
- If you have money set aside for cigarettes, spend it. or give it to your wife. Anything; just don't buy cigs.
- When you go to the store...avoid the cigs altogether. Get a new habit like chewing gum. Something to tide you over til the cravings stop.

I wish I would've been so smart.

My parents used to punish me for it and lecture me about it... all the while puffing away on a cigarette. It has to be one of the most hypocritical things I've ever experienced. They still smoke. My dad has drastically cut down but it's too late for him anyway. You'd never know he has emphysema. Just don't make him laugh unless you want to listen to him hack for two minutes.

Good call, Eric! Especially with a baby on the way.

I don't really have any advice for you, my mother succesfully quit smoking a few years ago. It's mostly will-power, I've heared stories of people getting addicted to nicotin gum and patches so I guess that's just kidding yourself. -- Anyway, goodluck!

Let me motivate you.

I'm 32. Both of my parents died at the age of 59 of smoking related cancers - dad in '97, mum just on 12 months ago.

Do you want your children to have to deal with that? It's pretty seriously screwed me up.

If the answer is no - then you won't smoke again.

I sincerely wish you success in kicking this habit. In a few weeks you'll wonder why you ever did it.

Very sad. My sympathies.

That's it, right there. That's my motivation. Wanting to spare my wife and kids that, and yet wanting to smoke at the same time is literally torture. I sit there and almost want to cry, and that stress makes me want to smoke.

Cigarettes are without a doubt the scurge on humanity. War on drugs my ass.

My mom smokes. I've been around it for all my life. It really, really sucks; especially because more people die of second hand smoke than first hand. I could die before my mom does... You never know, really. Everybody ive ever known (aside from friends) smokes. My mom must have about 10-15-25 a day, its really horrible. I can tell its really having an effect on me because i cant even run a mile without gasping for air and feeling like im going to faint. I hate it, i really do but she just wont stop no matter what i say.

I cant go a day without feeling like im not getting enough fresh air no matter how long im outside, because of all the smoking.

Mile, i congratulate you on what your doing and hope you continue to keep it up. I dont want your kids to end up feeling like i do every day of my life...

Good luck, I wish you success. I've had an uncle that died of lung cancer when I was 5, never got to know him really... Another uncle quit smoking(he had a pipe, no a legal pipe) after that. Nobody else in my family smokes. My grandpa use to, but he kicked the habit about 20 years ago, I think. I wish you luck!

So perhaps, to a cigarette right now, you might be inclined to say "I can't live with or without you?"

By the way - cell phones (and people who don't get special plates!), not cigarettes, are the scurge on humanity - yet no-one's cutting back on cell phone use! Bastards.

Good luck quitting. Chew gum or eat instead. And don't watch auto racing.

I can always look at Klos' avatar if I feel like I'm eating too much.

For some reason, Klos's avatar doesn't gross me out, which in itself scares me a bit.

I'm getting a deja vu here. Klos, keep the avatar. I guess milefile wasn't around here last time it showed up.

That makes me want to keep it longer. Quite immature, but I don't care. I'll be changing it soon enough.

As I said on the Opinions thread...

Think Anna Kournikova... Kournikova... sublimina....
