HAPPY NEW YEAR GTP!
To celebrate 2012, here's a random, Skrillex-related video! To make things better, the video involves My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! (Yes, I'm a brony. :D)

I dont consider brostep as a genre, i consider it more of an insult like calling something retarded. I think i seen someone use the term housestep?

But anyways, i like skrillex, he knows what hes doing. Its just he is played alot (not to mention by the embarrassing highschool kids who think he invented dubstep) anything thats over played/over hyped, begins to wear out. But hes not my favorite artist by far. Its almost like its become cool to hate skrillex, even though people will still listen to him. lol

If you want a break from the heavy wobbles but not dubstep entirely, try out Moombahton, you might like it.
Mor hardcore you say? How about Frenchcore, like hardstyle, but less smiley faces and more murdering.

BANGARANG!
Skrillex's new album

Bangarang (feat. Sirah)

Kyoto (feat. Sirah)

Summit (feat. Ellie Goulding)

And for people who wants epilepsy fast and to know what the song's saying,

Scream and Shout lyrics

First of the Year (Equinox) lyrics

Reptile's Theme lyrics

Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites lyrics

Thanks to Aderrrm for the "Breakn' a Sweat" video! :)

One of my favorite artists of this current generation of music. I have my own dubstep playlist on itunes and 80% of the songs on there are Skrillex titles. Flux Pavilion is also awesome. I'm not surprised that he's awesome though because he's from the UK and they got some pretty crazy **** there. Back to Skrillex though, he's awesome and Avalon was awesome. Can't wait for him to come back to Los Angeles.

Well, basically rap was on life support by a few artists like Common, until around 2008 until it just died with Lil Wayne's The Carter III and other crappy releases.

You should look into the underground and independent scene.... Mainstream hip-hop is whack nowadays... nothing like it was back in the early-mid 90's, the Golden era imo...

edit: Forgive me... Replied to this thread without looking at the dates.. . OOPS

I listened to a dubstep track that sounded a little more hardcore.

I'll say that Skrillex has been beaten again... First Klaypex, then Deadcat bounce (or whatever it's spelled).

Hahahaha wow!! Skrillex.. The single worst thing to happen to Dubstep.. How people cam think that he is the "greatest thing since sliced bread" is beyond me.. He started out singing screamo music, went to London, went to a rave and fell in love.. He then took what he had been taught from underground DJ's and maid it mainstream.. Leaving behind all the original superstars.. My favourite dubstep artists are Excision, Datsik, Skreme, Skare and the list goes on.. Sure his songs do well and good on him for making a name for himself, but his morals are way off track..

Yeah, IMHO Skrillex is merely the tip of the iceberg in the world of Dubstep. There are lots of really, really good artists around and hell I have yet to discover them XD

I finally got around to hearing what all the fuss is about (yea, I listened to all three [twice!] in the first post) and frankly, I'm not impressed. It's really average stuff, and that's weighing in with my particular bias that this sub-genre and manner of electronic music has a very disposable flavor to it. I give it some cred for becoming a little more popular in its own right, for being more than the expected notion of what electronic music is; that is, the usual empty-headed sound that is some sort of dance-y fashion runway music that breaks no barriers and develops no new aural awareness.

Skrillex just sounds very immature and repetitive; sort of blend of 90's video game background melodies with some impressions of rock's thrashier sections and the angrier parts of early-90's house music. It isn't completely un-cohesive, but it seems to follow back on itself every 60 seconds or so. What makes it hard to listen to is that there's no progression, there's no development, there's no destination, which to me, give no compelling reason to re-listen to it.

There is a use for it; it probably sounds like good workout music, or when doing a menial task that isn't really important. It gives the flavor that you're unlocked another level, but that level has now gone from heroically cleaning the bathroom and washing the dishes, to the next level of washing more pots and pans, with the bonus round of cleaning more bathtubs and sinks.

I do think the haters that think electronic music (even Skrillex) is easy to concoct and create produce are idiots. So I'm not saying he just mashes his keyboard a few times and e-mails the zip file to his producer. I ignore those tools.

Skrillex isn't dubstep. he is more of a "Housestep".

Pretty much what ran through my head; I was always under the impression that "dub-step" had more Caribbean and slow-paced moments, with low-pitched blasts that were amped up compared to their reggae musical forefathers.

Then again, I'm the simpleton that takes the 7000+ songs on his iPod and distills them down to about 10 genres for simplicity's sake...makes for more interesting listening when selecting "Random" and then the Genre...but that's just me.

Sounds like you are describing Dub to me. And in my opinion, Dub and Dubstep have very little in common, except the heavy bass. There is a couple Dub tracks in the Dubstep thread that someone posted, to compare to today's Dubstep.

You know when you are watching a stand up, or a comedic movie and they are making fun of hipsters and poke fun at they way they describe a band; Hipster: "Oh, have you ever heard of Dirty Rose Mother and the Rabbits Banjo? Probably not... but they are like Post-Contemporary/Grunge-Phunk with a bit of Light Metal." lmao

I feel like that is whats happening with DubStep, there are too many labels, i think it all needs to be cleaned up a bit. Like Drumstep, Housestep, Brostep, Moombahstep, and so on are trivial to me. (If i had to choose one to keep, it would be Drumstep)

Got a little side tracked there  , anyways. Skrillex is Dubstep (imo).

I like this better, it is a good balance of dance and heavy bro/dubstep

Better than skrillex at least 👍
