GT5 is often criticized for having too many "slow", "unnecessary", "boring" cars, instead of more sports cars or supercars. I used to be in this group, but a few experiences with slower vehicles (and a new wheel) have changed my mind drastically :D

Some of my most enjoyable online races have been in the <400pp range with Comfort-soft tyres. It's so fun to actually race them around different tracks 👍

It's always a good moment to nail that lap in a Corvette ZR1, but then I need a few minutes of relaxation, so I hop into my stock Cappuccino and drive it around like a madman :dopey:

While it would be nice to have more high-end cars, I personally would not want to see the "normal" cars go, as they set GT apart from other racing titles. Who else enjoys driving these cars?
 
I love these cars. Its fun taking the smallest, slowest, piece of crap, and try making it up the hill on Eigar Norwand lol. You'd be surprised on how many can't ;). I also like that Kubelwagon? Is that right? Can't drive worth of damn but fun as hell lol.
 
I´m with you, lately i´ve been driving more slow cars than the super or hiper cars.
 
Slower cars have always been quite fun to race in because the action is much closer as the draft gives slower guys a chance against the fast guys. In GT5p I loved the Swift races that were organized on here.

Stock I-Miev, take it around the Nordschlief a few times. Yes its slow but the things you learn about the track are wonderful and being able to push the car to its absolute limits in ways you can't with higher powered cars makes for a unique and gratifying experience.👍👍
 
Got to agree with you there. Alongside the points already said, you also get to see more of the beautiful scenery, take Eiger Nordwand short track as an example.
 
With low grip tires (all the way down to comfort hard ones), proper tracks (custom kart tracks are the best ones) and minimal tuning (sports transmission, customizable suspensions and that's it) slow cars can be fun too, and I mean ~300 PP ones can too. Most original GT5 tracks are too wide and have excessively long straights to enjoy them with such cars.
 
One of the best races i've had recently was in stock cappuccinos around nordschleife on comfort mediums.

It stops being a battle to stay on track at this PP level and becomes a battle to hold another 200rpm going up a hill to gain a car length on your opponent.

Great fun!
 
I enjoy using "slow" cars quite often. I've been using a Nissan Leaf in the 400pp seasonal's and having fun doing so. A track can seem much different at lower speeds. The Beetle in the latest dlc can be a kick to drive also!
 
Low powered cars can be great fun. The importance of maintaining momentum dictates how corners are taken. The only criticism of GT5 is most of its tracks are too wide for slower cars. Some Narrower twistier tracks wouldn't go amiss. London, Autumn Ring as well as the short version and Monaco are all quite good for slower cars though.
 
Slower car racing is a bit under rated.

I am having some very good racing at 400 to 450 pp.
Good fun to drive these cars.

Or try to make any other custom track as small as possible with a lot turns. Mt. Aso is good, but the hill prevents from using the weakest of cars.

Plus everything else too, of course.

I hate people that constantly go on about bugattis, lamborginis, 24/7 and thats all they have in their garages, the best thing about the game is that it has a large range of cars to suit your liking... Lately ive been using a stock Audi S3 '02 i love it!

I agree I have been going through my list of cars and im really surprised by a few of them.

For example the lupo cup car is tons of fun as well as the premium vw bug love them
 
If anybody knows me well, they'll know I have a huge soft spot for underrated cars. Why do you think the Mondeo is my favourite car? I don't really like supercars at all, except for the odd Aston now and again.
 
I recently have had a thing for my Nissan leaf but for me, my favourite slow car is the Midget!

Still too easy? Drive the track but only use half of it - One side or the other.

This is more than a game, as it will teach you new lines and maybe you will have some side by side , share the road / double the rush racing. - Safe in the knowledge you are no stranger to handling half the width of the track.

However - I like basic rear wheeldrive cars, I have to say I find FF cars to be a real chore to drag about a track. Anyone got some tips to find the love in these econobox cars?

I couldn't agree more with these two.

Except I like supercars in reality and not as much in GT5. Not that I dislike them, but that I have more use for normal cars in a game like this.

Yeah, I've taken the old Fiat 500... stock... around the Nurburgring 24-hour course... in the rain. I did it just for the sake of taking a leisurely stroll around The Ring. Normally I'm flying through there like a bat out of 🤬 and working to keep the car out of the grass. It's nice to slow down once in a while.

All of which are some of the greatest drivers' cars of all time.

Those cars are what I would consider slow in comparison to normal cars today.

To me, even the GT 86 is slow when comparing it to a "true" sports car like a 370z or something like that kind of car.

The Miata is classified as a sports car even though it's slow.
 
Slow cars are fun. I rarely race stuff below 450PP, but when I do bust out the sub-400 cars it is always a blast, mostly because they tend to handle like garbage if you leave them alone but they are so slow that it doesn't bother you.
 
Slow cars are great for helping you learn a circuit. Because they are not that quick finding the fastest or shortest line through the corners makes all the difference. You also notice elevation changes a lot more in a slow car. Racing stock Fiat 500 1.2s is a blast. A step up from karting(despite the karts being faster) as you have to carry as much speed as you can through corners to get some good speed, relatively speaking, down the straights.
 
They are very fun, but they need more uses. Why would you buy a WWII Schwimmwagen when you can't use it for much?

100% agree, you see people online missing their breaking points, taking the wrong line etc in 500+pp cars and ruin the online experience for everyone else because they haven't got used to driving slow cars first with the appropriate grip.

I think you should have to graduate from lower pp levels before taking to the track in fast road cars and sports/race cars.
