Saw two of these Toyota Prius Persona (Nothing to do with the games) Special Editions at my work. Came in some interesting colors.
2013 with Black Cherry:

2015 with Absolutely Red.

I kind of like them in these colors.... Don't know if they're limited, but I suppose they are special editions.

1973 Volkswagen Karmann Sport Ghia
With the introduction of the limited edition "Sports Bug" in 1973, Volkswagen of America requested Karmann to build a few hundred special model Karmann Ghias known as the "Sport Ghias". They were painted Saturn Yellow to match the Sports Bug and also featured elegant black stripes. In terms of performance, ...not something to get excited about. It was literally the same engine and chassis that was used on all the other Ghia's of 1973. Although slightly quicker than the Beetle because of aerodynamics, the '73 Sport Ghia had a 1600cc Flat 4 producing 46 SAE Horsepower. The car was capable of achieving 0-60 MPH in 21 seconds and reached a top speed of 90 MPH thanks to the the final drive increase in manual transmission models for 1973.

For 1990, Pontiac introduced the Grand Prix STE. It was essentially a sedan version of the Turbo Grand Prix introduced a year prior, and marked the only other Pontiac model to wear the 'Special Touring Edition' badge besides the 6000. Differences from the TGP include the availability of a 5-speed manual, unique rear suspension, extra reflector on the trunk to mimic a larger taillight, and only being available in all white. The STE would stay on the options list for a few more years, but the turbo engine was dropped after 1990.

Exclusively sold in Canada. Only 100 made.

Edit: 40k CAD base price. You pay for the rarity, name and exclusive colour. No substantial internal changes from a Sport-tech RS, short-throw shifter from an STI,

Thought of this thread after my uncle recently acquired a 2001 Volkswagen Golf GTI 25th Anniversary Edition.

Only 1,500 units were sold in the USA, and available in three colors, being red, silver, or black. On the exterior, it has larger front and rear bumpers, 18 inch BBS alloys, sportier tires, and a rear spoiler. The interior features Recaro seats and an aluminum center console. It also featured a sport suspension, a 6-speed manual transmission, and bigger brakes. It was powered by the same 1.8L used in the regular Mk. IV GTI, but was boosted to make 180hp instead of 147. 0-60 time was 6.4 seconds and top speed was 146mph.

Raiu means tunderstom in Japanese and they made a line in the R look like a lightning bolt, so it this car an electric or hybrid? The name and logo would fit a performance version of a electric car perfectly. It's a bad name for gas powered car.

1995 BMW M3 Lightweight

Only 115 of these were made, all of which were '95 models. Essentially, these were M3 coupes fitted with aluminum and carbon-fiber parts, a large wing, bare-bones-as-possible interiors, therefore they weighed over 280lbs less than the normal car, at 2950lbs. All M3 Lightweights were in Alpine White with M-colored checkered flag details donning the front and rear. Interestingly, the Lightweight was only sold in the United States. Therefore, the 3.0L I6 only made 240hp, compared to 282hp in Europe and Canada. It was still fast though, with a 0-60 time of 5.8s and top speed of 155mph.

Interestingly, Paul Walker owned not one, not two, but five of these bad boys at once.

I'm a bit of an M5 freak so here's my take. The F90 and F10 have their own special editions but there's nothing much interesting going on there. Instead, the E34 had the most special/limited editions of any M5 generation.

M5-E34-Winkelhock_blog_che168_com.jpg

First, is the Winkelhock Edition. It was named after one of BMW's factory racing driver, Joachim Winkelhock who won the Nurburgring 24 Hours with a BMW M3 in 1990 and 1991. BMW approached him and asked him to create a special version of the E34 M5. As a result, it's a stripped out version but with Recaro seats, wider rear tires, and red seatbelts. Only 51 examples were made.

Second, is the Cecotto Edition. Johnny Cecotto was an F1 driver and same affair with Winkelhock, he went on to create one special edition E34 M5. But instead of stripping out stuff from the car, he added more things like heated seats, wood trim, a power sunroof, and automatic climate control. The car was only available in two colours, Lagoon Green or Mauritius Blue, and had the option of interiors between Silvergray/Light Silvergray and Parchment/Light Parchment. Only 22 examples were made.

Third, is the Naghi Motors Edition. Naghi Motors is an Arabian importer of BMW and they asked BMW to build them a limited edition E34 M5 for their country. As a result, it had a Euro-spec 3.6-liter M5, with a catalytic converter deletion. Also include are factory M rear spoiler, Shadowline exterior trim, and Recaro SR front seats in leather-cloth with a bit of M stripe on the front bonnet. Only 15 examples were made.

Fourth, is the Elektra Edition. The different thing this time is it's in touring form. Hooray! As I understand, the car was requested by the Italian BMW dealers to create a limited edition E34 touring based ordered not through BMW M, but through BMW Individual. It was available in either Sterling Silver with Marine Blue leather, or British Racing Green with Tobacco leather, and features a very special gear knob. Only 20 examples were made.

Finally, is the usual 20 Jahre Motorsport Edition. I mean the name kinda explains itself, is to celebrate BMW M's 20th anniversary. The car was fitted with a 3.8-litre inline-six producing 335 horsepower, only available in Mugello Red and featured M-Technic rear-view mirrors, and Alcantara trimming on the seats, door panels, steering wheel, shift lever, and park-brake lever. Only 20 examples were made.

So there you go. A long list of special/limited edition E34 M5

Love this thread.

Found out last month this thing existed. Then, I saw two of them, on the road, this month.
Total allotment for Australia was 400. Not sure of worldwide sales. That was last year around January.

I also just remembered this one car I only get to sit on, would love to own one but I don't think I'll stand a chance. It's the Renault Megane RS 265 Red Bull Racing Edition. I'm not entirely sure of the official numbers worldwide but a quick Google pulled out 815 units, however what I'm very sure is there are only 15 units made it to Malaysia with all sold out.

Yup that’s the same car. Unless it’s a replica or something. Seems unlikely that would be the case but it’s possible considering how expensive M3 Lightweights sell for nowadays.
It was at Car week so I doubt it was a replica.

1978 Plymouth Volare Street Kit. A special edition of the Volare coupé, a street car designed to look like a race car fitted with Chrysler’s 360 V8, a stiff suspension, special wheels and tires in addition to bolts in the flares, hood pins, windshield clips and rear-window retainers. Only 247 were sold.

#13 of 500 Mopar 10 edition Challengers. They came with either manual or auto and the stripes were either red white or blue. Red was the rarest stripe color produced.

Honestly never really knew about this special edition until I saw one on the road locally. In 2006, Porsche made a Cayenne S Titanium Edition. I thought it was just a Guards Red (or similar color) Cayenne, but it's actually an exclusive Pure Red. Apparently it came with special wheels and window trim, along with some other extra touches.

Here's the one I caught on my dash cam. I've grown to like the first gen Cayenne and seeing one in something other than silver or black is interesting.

The 20 Jahre Motorsport edition of the M5 really does have an amazing interior.

It sucks they don't do the highly graphic M Cloth interior anymore as an option.

I agree, but perhaps not many people would want a cloth/fabric interior on their uber expensive saloon anymore.

And for one of the rarest M5s ever made... 2009 M5 25 Jahre Edition. Only one ever made. Featured many carbon fiber parts and weighed 110lbs less than the standard M5, and produced 80 more horsepower too (580hp).

It's a shame this E60 never made it to production. The best thing about this car isn't the weight reduction or more power, but it was equipped with a DCT gearbox from the E9X M3. All the 'what could've been' if the DCT was there in the first place rather than the clunky SMG.

On a side note, the car was 20 seconds faster than the regular E60 around the Nordschleife and it can go from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds!

There was also a UK Limited Edition. And if you're talking about one-offs, BMW built one E34 M5 convertible that they still have in their archives.

After I read your post, only now I found out about the UK Limited Edition. Haha! That makes it 6 limited edition E34 M5s that went on sale! I did also notice the convertible but I didn't include it in my previous post as the car never made it to production.

The most special edition of the E34 is the wagon that BMW stuffed the S70/2 into for testing.

Interesting because I never knew about this too. A wagon with the same V12 as the McLaren F1. Imagine if it goes into production

I really do think BMW hides a lot more prototypes in their secret garage. I'm quite surprised (based on quick Google search) that the news about this M5 broke out only last year considering how long the McLaren F1 had been out.

The Volkswagen Golf/ Jetta Trek Edition, which came with a Trek bike. Can't find many pictures, but there was also a K2 edition, similar to the Trek but a ski/snowboard car. As a biker and a VW fan in my teens, I wanted one of these bad.
