The TVR Cerbera Speed 12 is going back to shows and events across he UK once again. It's most recent event was the launch of GT4 in London on the 10th of March, however more exiting is the prospect of the car appearing in TopGear. Nothig has been set in stone yet but the owner of the Speed 12 has said he's in talks with them about it but theres too many terms and conditions to go through to make a decision at this point.

Currntly the car is running at 880Bhp, with out the restrictors the car is said to peak at over 960Bhp. The car is geard to hit 247Mph and may be fully dyno tested again soon. There was an attempt to dyno it on a rolling road, but the prolem was the car kept climbing out, possibly due it's torque which is anything from 1000lb/ft upwards.

Heres a quick hint also to fans of this car, buy EVO on the 6th this month, theres a nice little article on it. I'm hoping to get a chance to have a chat with the current owner of the car and find out as much about the car as I possibly can. In the meantime check out the cars web site www.speed12.info and keep your eyes open for moew info and specs to be released, and maybe, just maybe the car will be at a show near you soon.

There are 4 Cerbera Speed 12 road cars, only one was ever sold, it went to a member of The Prodigy at first. It's now in new hands, I'm going to have a breif chat with the new owner online, at present he's remaining anonymouse to the public, at least until the 6th this month. Late last year the Speed 12 underwent many changes, most notably to the bodywork where it resembles the GT race car more now.

The other 3 Speed 12's remained in TVR's possesion and were carted to shows and events for a year or so before being left in the garages. Two of them were sold to an auto museum (in Germany I think) who cut one in half, right down the middle of the car to display the mechanicals inside, and showed to complete version alongside it. The Fourth car is currnetly under a blanket in Blackpool, where it will more than likely remain for good.

It's been on TopGear but never tested, never driven round the track or anything like that. The old Speed 12 was in one of Clarksons DVD's but that was the old car not the Cerbera Speed 12.

TVR arn't doig much with the car, production was stopped and it'll stay stopped. If the car gets performance tested then thats upto the owner of it, not TVR.

All being well I'll be able to see him and the car. I'd love to get a ride but thats not going to happen no matter how much I ask, beg or threaten him. I've sent him an e-mail and I'm just waiting for a reply to sort things out, all being well it will be this month.

Ah I see now. BTW TVR fired up the car when releasing GT4! :D I have seen a video somewhere? It was nice!
 
Yep they turned out the lights so everyone could see the flames coming out the exhausts.
 
Looks nice, except I would have kept the bodywork stock. Imagine how evil that thing would have looked in black.

Yeah but the Speed 12 doesn't use a flamer kit ;). I'm updating the first post to include as many of the cars specs I've got so far for it in it's current state.
 
The diemnsions are correct, the weight, power and performance figures are wrong. I'm going to inquire about some of the other details liek the tyres ect. The car runs one of 3 different set's of tyres, track tyres for track days, performance tyres for road use and another set of road tyres for poorer conditions.
 
Would love to see the Stig ripping up the test track in it and wiping the floor with the Mclaren Mercedes.

Any suggestions on what his backing track will be ?
 
I know very little about these cars, and honestly hadn't even heard about TVR until I saw them in the Gran Turismo series. Ever since then, I've felt they were pure works of art, with the power to back them up! What a perfect blend! Unfortunately, I feel like this latest version looks like ass. I can't believe how they ruined those gorgeous lines with the lame body kit. Guess it's in line fo be in the next Fast and the Furious movie. What a shame. :(
 
Lame body kit??? I'm sorry but you've lost me. How is the bodywork from the GT race car a lame body kit? It's there for a reason, to give the car more downforce and to cool the engine more effectivley, the owner even said "As for the top speed - again its dependent on gearing and aerodynamics. Trust me, at those kinds of speeds I am not fussed whether its 240 or 247mph as long as the back-end (and front) is planted on to the tarmac", he wen't on to say that that the real numbers is the speed it accelerates, plenty of cars can be geared and given more power to reach toes speeds, not amny can get there fast. While I do prefer the clean untouched lines of the original body, I wouldn't at all call this one lame or link it to the Fast and the furious.

Functional or not, I think they utterly ruined it. Perhaps I don't understand the purpose of the car? Is this a car to be owned privately and to be driven on the street? If so, then I stand by what I've said. If it's to be USED as a race car only, then good looks always takes a back seat to functionality and performance. No problem there. There are all sorts of ugly race cars that perform amazingly.

I, perhaps mistakenly, thought the car was to be driven on the streets though. If that's the case, I'd GLADLY "suffer" with a lower top speed and less power in order to have the amazing lines back of the older cars.
 
It's a road legal car, but it's certainly not your everyday road car or supercar, for example you need to warm the oil up for half an hour before you start the engine, it has air jacks under the car, it runs a GT racers diff and has a big mother of a roll cage preventing you from just hopping in and out. The original purpose of the Speed 12 was to break records, and pretty soon you might just see it doing that, it is a car where form folows function, and although it looked nice before, it certainly wasn't as usable as it is now. The car is indeed owner priavtely, believe it or not, it was put up for sale by TVR in Autotrader, but they didn't just sell it to the first guy that came along, they had a vetting process, and the luck winner said in EVO magazine "Iit was rather like turning up as a suitor to ask for a daughters hand in marriage".

It has a full MoT and road tax, but look at in a similar way to the Toyota TS020 road car back in 97, sure it was a road car, but it was never intended to be driven on the streets in the same way as say a McLaren F1 or Lambo Diablo or even a Merc CLK-GTR.
 
I've read the article in evo magazine. Now I'm updated on how the car became to be seen again, which was interesting to read.

So is the Speed 12 in GT4 based off of one of the 4 you've spoken of? With the horsepower and torque being estimates?
