What ever happened to the Stig from top gear? Does anyone know who he was? Is he still driving for Top gear?

I know who the Stig is. I just can't remember the name. He is an ex-Formula 1 driver. I've seen his face too. I just need to find the pic again.

Since the thread is about Top Gear, has the current season finished? I can't find any new episodes on suprnova.org (it's the only way I can get Top Gear in Canada, unless I want to pay for an expensive satellite setup all for one station...)

It was Perry McCarthy. They then killedhim off by jumping him from an aircraft carrier into the sea in a Jag XJS.

I don't know who it is now. It may still be Perry....

i already saw that one. but they dont say if he's dead or if its just memories of what he's done in the past. or if he's leaving. What they do say is that if he crashes they will have to get a new stig. lol

I'm pretty sure that he isnt actually dead but he prolly quit and they had to make a humours excuse or they wouldnt insensativly joke about his death like that......

I just wanna know what really happened to the original stig......
And who he really is.

yeah what he said is true. 👍 but i never heard them actually say they killed him off. or anything./..

Do you think they'd really kill him off on TV? That would be ever so slightly illegal. Not the TV bit, the killing bit.

I've not seen anything on who the new one is, but it could be a double bluff and still be Perry.

hehehehehe, yeah, I ment that he was killed in real life and they were joking about him on the show.

That vid on the memories of stig is pretty cool.

A fitting tribute............sniff :(

They changed the Stig's colours now like he supposedly was reborn, He does hate a few cars that he has tested on the TOP GEAR Test Track.

The guy was on Speed Sunday I believe.
If I remember correctley when he died there was a burst of steam from behind him. Possibly form the steam catapults of the aircraft carrier (But I'm not sure if they have them on Ark Royal) or from their firing machines of teh type they used for the game of 'car darts'.

I remember reading some where some people got REALLY emotional about it. I just sat back and laughed. :D

I remember watching that sports relief Top Gear thing & they had a 'mystery driver' that was Tiff Needell, had a helmet similar to Stigs. Maybe its Tiff Needell secretly staying in Top Gear aswell as Fifth Gear ;)

With regard to Perry McCarthy being the original Stig, I recomend you read his book 'Flat out, Flat Broke' about his life as a racing driver. Its one of the funniest and gripping books I have read and does cover his life as the Stig. The Stig was 'killed' off after the book was published so it speculation as to Perry being the new white-clad Stig. He was however the original black-clad Stig, apart from a couple of times when testing duties forced other people to don the black overalls.

As for his death, it was a stunt for **** sake, does any one here really believe that the BBC could just go around killing people and having a laugh about it on prime-time TV. It would also raise a few issues about Perry McCarthy being a guest driver in the GB Carrera Cup after his apparent death! Not sure if dead people can hold race licences, but I do doubt it.

The attached picture, the cover of the above mentioned book may also help.

He can't be that good a driver...He has been beaten by quite alot of celebrities. :D
The presenters Jeremy, Hamster Hammond and the curly haired guy seem only really on there because of their presenting talents and not so much their driving skill. Which you can understand as the show is on at 'prime time'. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad drivers. But none have them have any racing history as far as I know. They are all just petrol heads.

I can't view it as it is set as a RAM file. Any ideas what I can play that on?

Richard 'Hamster' Hammond, does hold a National level racing licence (it has been mentioned on Top Gear a number of times) and has competed in a number of Club level events, but nothing serious to the best of my knowledge.

I quite agree with EE that they have been chosen from their presenting skills and all round knowledge of the motor-industry. It should be remembered that JC is a major force in the motor-industry and when he passes comment on a car it does have an effect on sales. When he famously refused to say anything about the 1st gen Vauxhall Vectra other that it had quite nice dustcaps, sales of the car took a heavy downturn. Not only that but Vauxhall refuse to supply him with press cars for a good number of years after.

Clarkson has always been honest about his driving abilities both on TV and in print, personally I prefer his written stuff.
