Will you explain it to me, please?
Most people have 2 legs, but some have 1 or none. Nobody has three (unless something went wrong), so the average is about 1.999999, therefore if you have 2 you "technically" have an above average number.

The same applies for arms. :)

So the only way to be average is to cut a toe off?

No. Technically you can't have the average number of legs, because that would require you to have 1.99999 legs, which is impossible. ;)

I have three legs :sly:.

Someone was going to say it eventually.

Just goes to show why the median is sometimes more useful than the mean.

You just blew my mind, man.

Fact: Famine's favorite car is the Ford RS200.

On average, right handed people live 9 years longer than left handed people.

they might die early but:

Left handed men are, on average, 15% richer then right handed men for those who attended college, and 26% richer if they graduated.

(so you just have to go, not really study to get 15% more then a next stupid right hander)

Racedude
Will you explain it to me, please?

There are more people with one leg than there are people with three.
So the average number of legs is like 1.999999.

EDIT: Tree'd

There are 939 "Penny Lane"(s) in America (individual streets, not singles nor people).

There are also more overall "2nd streets", rather than "1st streets" in the good 'ol US of A.

Naturally, "Main Street" is the most popular.

Back in the mid 1800s, men in the state of Illinois were required to wear top hats whilst out in public.

That should be national law actually.

Thats because Lefties (like me) are more likely to be killed using right-handed machinery (Chainsaws, scissors, firearms, ect.):yuck:

A fact worth cherishing IMO:tup:

Isn't it also true that most streets that would've otherwise been called "13th Street" get alternate names like "Euclid" or something.

Not if these, quite frankly, disgusting "facts" keep coming. Pee jokes? Puking out of your anus? Seriously? If it takes you ten seconds to come up with that, try thinking for at least eleven before you post.

Fact.

Mmmkay. :guilty:

I do believe this thread should be limited to science and statistics, no personal facts please.

Seen on television:

A tortus has a maximum speed of 300 m/h (generally) and can get over 180 years old.

Useless fact: I live about 200 yards from THE Penny Lane (as in the one The Beatles sang about)

OOne for those from the UK: think about the dail-codes for the major cities in the UK and have a look at the lettters that acompany the numbers on your phone... Birmingham is 0121 - B is 2 on the keypad, Edinburgh is 0131 - E is 3, G(lasgow) is 0141, L(iverpool) is 0151 etc...

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is the fear of long words
Luposlipaphobia is the fear of being chased by timberwolves around a kitchen table while wearing socks on a newly waxed wooden floor.

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is the fear of long words

This is sadistic, imagine you suffer from Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, how ever would you use the correct term for the fear you have?

You could resort to the shorter version, sesquipedaliophobia

Area codes in North America were once laid out based on the largest population centers received the "shortest" numbers: 201, 202, 203, for example were the quickest to dial, because the pulsing from a rotary phone dial was shorter than if you had to wait and dial "919", for example. Now, area codes seem to be randomly distributed, or on an "as requested" basis, since Touchtone became defacto in the 1980s.

The area of Florida that contains Kennedy Space Station has area code 321, just like the countdown. Daytona Beach and thereabouts uses 386, which spells "F-U-N". Nobody noticed.

If you traveled at the speed of the Voyager space craft (a blistering eleven miles per second, it would take 350,000 years to reach the nearest planet deemed by scientists to have a human supporting climate. I also learned that if we were to build a ship that travels a thousand times faster (11,000 miles per second), it would still take 73 years to reach said planet. I find that amazing, yet it is still pretty useless.
