The Tuner Culture: Clubs and Teams

Hello, GTPlanet. Back with this "series," if you will.

This time, I'd like to focus on groups and teams that are actively involved in the tuning process. Whether a team mods pony cars, sport compacts (my primary focus), luxury cars, sports cars, or whatever, you can talk about that team or even YOUR team. I'll start with a team I've never thought I'd come up with to start a topic.

Yashio Factory; Saitama, Japan

I never thought I would come up with this one because the cars are noted for being painted in one such color- pink. But it doesn't mean the cars are "girly." In fact, there is a Nissan Silvia from one of my old magazines from last year which featured a Nissan S15 Silvia. How good is this Silvia? How about a 57-second lap time at Tsukuba? The car is turbocharged with 550hp with some turbo tuning that I can't describe in one intro. It is a racing machine that is most likely street legal. It hits the track and probably not "Initial D" style mountain battles.

And so ends my example of a tuner team. Talk about some of your favorite teams, or even put in your team. RE Amemiya, Rod Millen, Steve Millen, if they tune, they're welcome. And so are you, to talk about them. Go ahead. Reply.
 
I've always liked Yashio Factory. I think the pink is cool. After all, to most male drivers, the car is female, so why can't she wear a feminine color? Besides, I like that it causes opponents to underestimate the car.

Now, on to tuning teams.

I'm a fan of Kei-Office. They consistently turn out some of the most well-balanced cars in the field. They make the best suspensions out there, and have top-level drivers. What's not to like?
 
So this is why all the drifters are desperate to start teams when they show up here?
 
There are 500 threads about wanting to start a new "team", which mostly do nothing beyond identify themselves as a team, and ask who wants to join. They never seem to identify what the team is supposed to do, they rarely challenge each other or help each other or do anything beyond the basic fact of getting "founded". I never understood why these people were so hot to start a team, if they weren't going to do anything with it.

The vast majority of these teams get started by people dedicated to the drifting/Japanophile crowd. John's post at the top goes a long way towards explaining the phenomena.
 
I've always wondered why you'd want a team. Car clubs I can understand since it's just a bunch of people with the same type of vechile getting together. I belong to a two car clubs, one being me and some buddies just chilling and calling our self a car club and one that a true established one.
 
I've been asked to join several car clubs.:odd:

I won't join a club, but I'll hang out with them. There's a "club" down here called 'Undivided Attention' full of turbo Civic's, turbo Eclipse's, and a blown '98 Cobra that I've been known to run around with on the weekends, but you won't catch my car with a huge sticker on the back saying 'Undivided Attention' - that's just retarted.

Why can't people just hang out? Why do you have to start a club? It's not like you're still 10 years old. Meh.
