You know the drill here. :D

My choice is simple yet obvious to those who know me.

THE TERMINATOR

2003-2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_Cobra#2003-2004
Debuting in early 2002, the 2003 Cobra came with a supercharged 4.6 L DOHC engine rated at 390 hp (292 kW) and 390 ft·lbf (530 N•m) of torque. It was later determined that Ford had under rated the Cobra, as actual SAE-corrected flywheel output was determined to be in the 410 to 415 horsepower (309 kW) range. This car was capable of running mid-12-second 1/4 mile times in factory trim with a skilled driver. Numerous improvements were made to the powertrain and driveline to handle the increase from the previous model year. A cast iron block was used instead of aluminum, with stronger internals including forged Zolner pistons and Manley H-beam connecting rods that were modified with a wrist pin oiling hole by the SVT engine builders. These upgrades were critical in order to support the 8 psi (60 kPa) of boost delivered from the stock Eaton M112 roots supercharger. Other improvements include the use of an aluminium flywheel connected to a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, 3.55:1 rear axle ratio and stronger 31 spline half shafts with revised upper and lower control arms.

For 2003, SVT offered a limited-edition Tenth Anniversary Cobra which featured unique color schemes, wheels, and badging. SVT produced 2,003 units of the Tenth Anniversary model, which was available in Red, Black, and Silver. The 10th Anniversary Package was offered in both coupe and convertible, featured unique wheels, red leather interior accents (seats/door panels), "carbon fiber-look" interior trim , red brake calipers, and SVT 10th Anniversary badges on the floor mats and rear decklid.

The only major addition to the 2004 model was the introduction of Screaming Yellow (replacing Zinc Yellow), Competition Orange and the optional Mystichrome paint scheme. The Mystichrome appearance package included a unique color-shifting exterior paint that was meant to be an improvement to the Mystic paint offered for the 1996 Mustang Cobra. The Mystichrome interior seating featured a unique color-shifting leather that mimicked the exterior paint. Only 1010 of the Mystichrome Cobras where made, and cost an additional $3650.

The 2003-2004 SVT Cobra is noted by many for offering excellent performance coupled with stunning looks. With inexpensive "bolt-on" modifications such as intake, exhaust, ECU tune, and a smaller supercharger pulley, Terminator Cobras have been known to exceed 500 hp (370 kW) at the rear wheels.

This guy can't shift for ****--but at least the sound of the car is just godly and thankfully no stupid text or music to ruin it--not even the idiot camera man can ruin it. About a minute in for the good noise.

There just is no substitute for "The Terminator". S197 GT500's are lame compared to this. And again for the record the "rated" 390bhp is more like wheel horsepower and not crank horsepower.

This should be a good one like the Pontiac one. :D

How many of these do we need, it has to be borderline spam. Anyways my favorite never made it past concept.

Those are insane, I wish dealers would do that today...

Tough choice between the new and the old. Anyway, Boss 302 Mustang:

Or maybe that new Shelby GT500. What a sweet looking car. And it goes too.

I can't decide which color I'd like to have mine in...

Not being a huge Ford fan, its a bit difficult for me to avoid the more popular choices that end up coming off more as obvious than actual legitimate choices.

Ford SVT Focus (MKI)

Personally, I benchmark it as the car that began the major change for Ford (North America) to become a legitimate automaker again. Not only was it cheap, it was fast, and as I understand it, a helluva lot of fun to drive. Sure, its easy to pick a Mustang (it was my original idea), but it takes guts to mention the Focus.

I'm actually surprised there was only one vote for the GT40 so far. I'd think that would be the "bandwagon" choice.

Well since I think the idea of a Mercury thread wouldn't pan out quite well. I'll just put my ultimate FoMoCo product in here.

And just so you guys can't say they only look good touched up. Here's mine.

She'll be up and running about the town in about 2 months depending on when we can get a quote on the bumper and the few remaining bolts.

As people have already trodden the Mustang/GT/GT40 line, I'll take a slightly different path. In the States, the Mustang represented the best of what Ford had to offer, all the while being affordable for the average joe. In the UK, the car I think did the same was the Ford Puma:

Ford Puma 1.7

To explain: It looked great, though obviously this is subjective. It had a decent turn of speed. Being based on a Fiesta, it was inexpensive to both buy, run and insure. It had a great engine, a revvy, variable camshaft timing unit developed with Yamaha. It handled brilliantly, and spawned one of the best-handling FWD cars ever, the Racing Puma (below) developed with Tickford. It's widely accepted to have one of the slickest gearchanges of any car. It has racing pedigree, in the form of JWRC victories with the Puma S1600.

Perhaps best of all, it's known for one of the best car adverts ever too:

Wow, not a single right answer yet.:sly:

Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III

How many Fords can lay claim to being the fastest production sedan in the world of its time? Few come more legendary than this (Phase IV doesn't count, only a couple were made, only 1 supposedly survives). Mustangs don't count because there's a billion and one "ultra" rare versions of it.

Edit: Oh, the engine was also supposedly well under-rated, and it played a crucial role in the "supercar scare". How many Fords can lay claim to helping stop a country from developing faster cars due to how fast it already was?:D

Fastest production sedan (saloon, 4 door etc) at the time, not the fastest car, American muscle cars of that vintage pretty much would wipe the floor with it. Even the Head of Ford Australia at the time had his fitted with a 429 Cobra Jet.

Yeah that's what I meant to say, small typo.:ouch: BTW, I firmly believe that Australian muscle cars handled a lot better than their American counterparts in road going trim.:) Simply because AU muscle cars were designed to race at Bathurst, US muscle cars were designed for 1/4 miles.;)
