I don't know if it should be moved, but I do agree. It is pretty dominating for the Modern Class Simply because it is such a fast car for the price.

I will select another car. I'm willing to do this because I bought the car before looking at the classes, and that is the only class it really fits in. Too bad, I don't think I could have got a faster time with the car (and a pretty sick picture to go with it.)

Oh, I forgot to mention, I got a new time with the Zonda (this may seal it's fate)

NEW TIME UPDATE

Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3 '02 - 1'21.389

edit - I just re-read l2ev's times, so I think I'm off the pace anyway

well i just "borrowed" ed's caterham while my RS6 was cooling down and my god does that first gear near enough kills the car and those slow ass gear changes, although only did 3 laps and i didnt really push it cause i didnt wanna wreck his pride and joy  best lap was a 1:27.833

handles alot like my S4,flat out through some of the corners and just a little lift in others, another on the slowest corners it was going round them 10mph faster than the audis :scared:

Whell,NSX is in repair shop, she needs the paint job and some few things

This is with zenki front lip,we could not found the new front end in any of stores, should have to visit Japan though.

EDIT:founded the Acura front lip from the new NSX,it will be finished soon, with the Honda embleem on it :D

Yeah, just like that, how did you get that true conclusion

Thought I would treat you all to a flying lap in the Renault 5 Turbo.

Cross the start finish line in 4th and hold that gear as the straight goes slightly uphill, select 5th and start to prepare for 130R, a lift in the 5 starts to rotate the rear around and the first time this happened I was straight into the Armco wondering what went wrong. The trick is to apply a small amount of corrective lock at the same time as lifting off to make the long corner, get it right and its taken with an oversteer biased drift onto the kerbs at the exit.

Wait for the braking markers and brake hard for the tight twin 90degree right complex, slot 2nd and turn in, the bump mid bend will unsettle the car and sometimes cause the rear to snap, nothing serious though, straight on the power and then a quick lift for the 2nd right hander, then back on full throttle and up through the gears to 4th,

The next two rights can be tricky, the first is a fast sweeper that punishes if you overcook slightly, the 2nd is a bit tighter but with some lovely kerb to ride. Take the 1st one in 4th with a small lift taking some kerb with the right hand wheels, car drifts to the exit kerbs on the left and its almost straight away on the brakes for the 2nd right which is done in 3rd with a lot of kerb taken.

Power out riding the exit kerbs on the left and under the bridge to cross the T1 line, the next right is fast, keeping right over to the kerbs on the right means you get lined up nicely for the tight hairpin. This is a dream in the 5, brake early down to 2nd and turn the car in, the 5’s lift off oversteer helps here with the back immediately coming round, for a moment its like slo motion the car drifts the turn with no input from either steering throttle or brakes, quite close to perfection! At sight of the exit punch the throttle and exit continuing that neutral drift.

The next very long sweeping right is a chance to have a cup of tea, wash the car etc whatever you fancy, just up through the gears full throttle into 5th and wait for the brake marker for the next complex which for me is the hardest section to get right.

Braking at the marker down to 3rd and turn in, bit of understeer, ride the kerbs and then let the car ride out to meet the kerb on the right, turn in again for the left which unloads the rear once again producing oversteer, no problems here though just get back on it in 3rd, into 4th at the exit kerbs on the right and over the start finish line!

Have to say excellent job with the 1st track choice Fasteddie, the first two corners tell you so much about what your car is doing, 1st is the very high speed left which you ideally need a neutral car for, some oversteer is ok though, next the very low speed tight corners after a heavy braking area tell you about your brakes and low speed handling, great circuit!

Well there you go, shows what a quiet shift at work and 15 mins can do for you!

David

I'm calling an illegal upgrade (again)! The rules do not allow upgrading fascias to newer versions, and not across brands either! All replacements must be OEM and same year! :D

Whell i said,we are gonna use the 2001 front lip,as original(...cough..acura's on the honda... cough...)I think that's legal :D

EDIT:Good news, insurance company has provided the original Japanese parts(Polyphony Insurance & co. provided overnights from japan,as the car is from),so the car will be finished till tommorow ;)

UPDATE SKYLINE

Whell Boogieman,your turn,i squeezed this:

Try your best ;) 👍

Evening all! Sorry I'm late, had a bit of a disaster, losing the keys to my flat... :( Staying with a friend tonight, up early tomorrow, so unable to update the leaderboard tonight. Hope to resume service tomorrow.

Sorry about the Supercharger, Goose, it was because I was sorely tempted to put one on the Caterham, but realised it was the same as other hefty upgrades (stage 3 turbo I think, but can't check), so seemed a tad unfair.:indiff:

How many want to run 4 cars? I know I do... Doesn't seem realistic, but it's sooo tempting...:)

Dave, you should have plenty of people trying out the cheap seats with you (nice selection, btw), but there will always be the rich kids with all the nice toys at a track day :D , so... the supercars stay. Besides which, it makes it the automotive equivalent of "Better Than Life", with Boogieman playing Rimmer.... (If this means nothing to you put Red Dwarf in the GTP search engine, titles only, Rumble Strip...)

How are people finding the track? I struggle with Suzuka (Driver's Book of Excuses #342), and have hardly ever used the West Course (#216), although the gearing didn't help (#278), and the tyres went off (#2). I hit some really bad traffic on my best lap (#1), that would have been in the high teens for sure... :D But for all that, I'm really enjoying the circuit, it's quite a challenge.

Oh and I've stationed an extra Marshall at the end of the main straight to keep those cones and tyre barriers in the right place...

Had a quick turn in a Ruf RGT before I went to bed last night, and got it down into the 1'22s. Not quite supercar level, but it will be easier to drive tuned than the others, I feel sure ;) . And again, no Track Day is complete without a rear engined flat 6 out there...

Laguna next... When do people want to change? I originally thought we might have to wait till June 3rd, but I'd be happy to change this weekend if most of you agree.

Goodnight all...

well i would agree on the 4 car rule but would say you would have to at least have a saloons or estates etc ;) (ie like trailer the a couple of cars to the track)

oh and ill let you sleep in the estate if you really wanna  dont think the catherham will be too comfortable and might be abit drafty

i would still go for saturday as change over day :)

Ah, but which Saturday? 3rd June, or 27th May? It's pretty much got to be a Saturday to give me a chance to do the paperwork...:grumpy:

BTW for those in other time zones midnight BST is about now, so compare it with the time this post is posted, and you'll know the cutoff time:)

well donno about other people but i would say the 27th would be good as we seem to have a fair amount of regulars and rivaliers going on,could make out to be rather intresting :D

Oh yes, the Viper question: I need to see what else would fall into that category before I can decide. Also, the REAL supercars (Zonda, SLR, Ford GT & Saleen) are going to be devastatingly quick at most of the other circuits, but it will be difficult to make them go faster by tuning them (as they are already immensely quick and you cannot increase grip significantly as most of them can't take wings). Dave and Scaff (the Two Wise Men), what do you think? should the Viper be reclassed as a supercar?

Has anyone even brought a Viper? I can't see one in the paddock...

Please, people, only post times for your entered cars here. It's getting very confusing and turning into a free-for-all. If you want to beat someone, you have to beat them in your own car over the coming weeks by cunning tuning. That's the point of the thread!!

Thanks.

Ed

Not sure about the wise man thing (meaning me!) but yes I believe the Viper should be considered a supercar:tup:

In my opinion the Viper certainly should be in the Supercar class, it has the potential to run with the big boys and certainly would dominate in any other class.

In regard to the date question I would personally prefer the 3rd as I'm going to be stuck in Leeds with workd for a couple of weeks. Only being back home for the weekends would mean me just setting nominal times for Laguna Seca and 'Skuba Wet if the first change was this Saturday. However I am more that happy to 'go with the flow' (quick name the band) on this one, after all the main person I'm competeing with in terms of lap-times is my self.

Anyway, needed a change of pace from the ancient Galant and was flicking through the small ads when I came across a nice little runner. An '89 Skyline GT-R, that fits nicely into the Budget division and should have some potential.

Picked it up and treated it to an oil change and wash, then popped into the workshop to set to work, my new track monster emerging with the following spec.

Nissan Skyline GT-R 1989

344 bhp / 318 lb.ft / 1301 kg

Modifications
Oil Change
Sports Exhaust
Sports Suspension
Sports Flywheel
S1 Tyres

Chassis Refresh
Rigidity/Roll Cage

Turbo Stage 1 (Budget Division Mod)
Weight Reduction Stage 1 (Track Mod)

I must say when I set about put the modifications on the car I had a few plesent surprises, as per the norm, the Japanese manufacturers 'Gentlemans Agreement' on 276bhp was a bit loosly applied to this model. Hence the 344 bhp with just a Sports Exhaust and Stage 1 turbo; in addition to that the Stage 1 weight reduction (glad to get all the seats and sound proofing out) had a major diet effect on the car.

On track its going to need a bit of work with the set-up as its still a bit lardy and that combined with 4WD results in an understeer balance, still with only a few test laps completed its run a 1.33:405.

It also sounds quite wonderful with the sports exhaust and stage 1 turbo combo, well worth a try.

Regards

Scaff

UPDATE

Half a dozen more laps and down to 1.31:581, starting to like this car a lot.

Great but with just a couple of errors around the mid section in positioning, Renault 5 hint hint.....
