Hey Goose, I thought your Camaro and my Jag would end up pretty close together. It'll be interesting to see how that shapes up: the Camaro has the edge on power, the Jag is better on weight, and in handling terms I'd have to say the Camaro probably takes it. We've got ourselves a Convoy!. Sorry, race! We've got ourselves a race! After all, this isn't Formula 1! :D

Ha, not astonished enough to give me a congrats for being top of the leaderboard with 316 ps!! (Until the SLR arrived that is....):grumpy:

Speaking of which, Mini Maz: 47.170" - chipping away, but not exacty making a sculpture... (does that make sense? no? too much gin, too much beer, sorry...)

How are you setting Mini-me up ed? I found it responded to a stiff set up quite well. And the gearing is critical.

Well slightly softer at the rear than at the front with the dampers(8 -6), to control that oversteer; I haven't touched the springs, as its such a light car; and I haven't gone overboard with the ride height either (99 - 96); and 30-20-30 with the LSD. Pretty conservative really, and to be honest, I think it's got more to do with technique than setup, as the car is now decently controllable and doing what I want. But then, I don't mind being second to you, Dave...:D

My suggestion would be to use either the B or C tabs in settings to try something else whilst keeping the settings you like in the A tab.

Im running about 11/12 for the springs with a 4/8 bound/rebound on the damping, ride height is low but even and camber is 3/2.

Stabilisers Im using 5/6 I think and i also turned the LSD down to 10/15/15 I think as I felt it was possibly slowing it in places, might be my imagination though.

The bias to the rear being ever so slightly stiffer seems to get the front turned in nicely and that oversteer is so manageable it actually helps, especially on the final corner where Im getting a slight drift and changing up from 3rd to 4th mid corner...lots of fun this car.

be interested to see if that rough set-up works for anyone else as it went against my usual tuning, then again all my cars have responded to stiff set-ups here, its possibly due to the need to forcefully turn the cars at so many corners.

OK had time to run my bike tonight on TT. Now dispite this track (in my opinion) not suiting bikes at all (too many tight corners and too few straights and big fast sweepers), I had a lot of fun.

The Gixxer 600 did well posting a time just in the 46 second range (time post updated).

All adds to the fun, hopefully tomorrow night and Friday I will get more time on the AZ-1 and maybe start with a second car of my own.

BTW - Glad you seem to be enjoying the AZ-1, its a great little car around a tight track even if it is rather expensive to buy and set-up (sorry about that).

Stiff??? You weren't kidding, either! I might give that setup a go tonight, Dave. I also wonder whether or not the lsd holds you back, I used it on the A310 a while back and it destroyed my times while making it much tidier :indiff:

Thanks for that, it took a while to get a decent time, in part the lighter weight of the 600 helps a great deal around Motorland. As you say the track itself is far to short and the corners too tight to suit a bike, at times it almost feels like you are walking around some of the corners (mainly the tight hairpin in the middle.

The first slight left after the start/finish before the long right, is a major pain on a bike as well, get it wrong and you may as well throw the entire lap away.

Going to try and use the Datastick export to get my TT replay up here as well.

Still trying to get it sorted, TT says its copied it to my data-stick, but then when I putthe data-stick in my PC I can see it?

Going to have to try again tonight and also try another data-stick.

I've also now picked another car, after all what would a VTD be without Scaff and a slow car, so I've gone for a Mk1 Golf GTi.

Rubbish times at the moment, but I have quite literally only spent 10 minutes with the car.

I applaud you for picking a slow(er) car Scaff:tup:

I had some real fun last time in my Alfa, Clio and 5Turbo but must admit i got frustrated towards the 3rd and 4th week as no matter how quick I was I couldnt get to where I wanted to be on the leaderboard.

This time round Im hoping to mix it up a bit and am really enjoying the 3 cars I have picked for their unique characters and speed and not just because its easier to post a quicker time.

The Golf is great fun in my opinion and I think you will enjoy spending a few weeks with it.

OK I'm fed up now, on top of a so far futile attempt to get TT to copy a replay to one of my data-sticks (which works fine with TT photomode) I noticed that I still had production rubber on my bike.

My time of 0'46.935 is therefore invalid.

I slapped on the right tyres and after a dozen laps or so I go a damn fine time not to far off the mark. New time is 0'47.270.

Time post updated and still working on the replay.

New time for the Golf

0'51.606

Not a huge improvement, but the stock gearing limits the car on a circuit this tight, but thats not a good guide to judge how much fun this car is.

Simply put its a joy to drive, its not realy fast by modern standards but guideing the car around the big right hand sweeper at the start, using minimal steering input and just balancing the car.

You can brake hard and deep into the following hairpin, using the load shift to the front to throw the back end out and around to the next double apex hairpin. The first part just needs a slight lift to set the car and with luck and a bit of skill the car will start oversteering enough to tuck you in for the second part of the corner.

Powering out (relatively speaking) and onto the chicane, again just a lift of the throttle gets you through, dancing from curb to curb. Using the final part of the chicane to unsettle the car, you can use a little scandinavian flick to scrub of just enough speed to slow the car, change down a gear and ballance the car on the throttle around the final corner. Opening up down the straight and past the start/finish line and on to another lap.

I just hope that the above in some small way how much fun this car is, I don't car if its the slowest car in every round, as long as it stays this much fun to drive.

Gooster and I had a quick chat about the next round at Deep Forest regarding the large concrete area at turn 2 (which can be cut very deep) and as we are running to the On-line rules I dug out what it has to say about Deep Forest specifically.


  • 2 wheels on track at all time ;
  • rumble strips are part of the track ;
  • any tarmac, concrete or cobblestone area is part of the track, except the big concrete slab on the outside after T2.
  • no contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible ;
  • no contact with AI ;
  • if you're not 100% sure that you lap is clean, then consider it dirty ;
  • no hybrids ;
  • no cheating of any kind ;
  • nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules ;
  • save your replay ('save replay' icon).

Just wanted to get it posted up in case anyone is 'practicing'.

I quite agree there, it is a spot that could be used to gain an unfgair advantage, and in my opinion, it is one that should be avoided. any stupidly fast times will require a replay to prove that this 'shortcut' was not utilised, and failure to do so may result in your time being adjusted, or voided.

Right, times in my timepost are final for motorland, all packed up and heading for the forest somewhere in gt4 land......

Regarding the concrete sections on deep forest:

Im not sure where T2 is right now without being in front of the PS2 but I feel the concrete areas just before and also in the tunnel should be illegal as in particular the one before can gain you time. Will look into the T2 area mentioned by Scaff though.

Regarding the next control car:

Took it to Motorland for a blat round, wow its tricky, fierce powerband at the top end will light up those S1's no problem, im all for driving it standard as poss which Fasteddie stated, i actually feel like the race suspension should be dropped from it, as people who dont want to tune full race suspension may well be at a disadvantage to those who do - and it will be refreshing to drive a car more or less standard in this series. Just a thought.

Overall thoughts for Motorland:

Great, small circuit kept me more interested than I thought and was a lot more challenging to get the times down. Looking forward to somewhere I can open the taps a bit more though!

NSX-R was sublime, Ruf was tricky but rewarding and the Clio posted a time it shouldnt be capable of IMO.

The Mazda "Mini me" (everytime i see that car I think of Austin powers....) was a lot of fun, good choice there and rewarding to chuck round, needs about another 70ps though!

Nice report there Dave, I agree that Motorland is deceptively tricky. I am really enjoying the VTD series(es) as it is forcing me to hone my skills, and techniques.

Thanks:tup: Be good if everyone tries to write down their thoughts too!

Motorland is somewhere you have to perhaps change your driving style a touch, I feel it would suit the high power/short geared group B cars quite well!
But your right this series as a whole does force you to improve your game a bit. Fasteddie should take a bow as its the most original idea I have seen here to date.:)

I found Motorland to be quite easy to learn, but very hard to master, with many off apex corners, and unbalancing corners. The most challenging point for me was the chicane just before the final corner, as I had a fair bit of trouble being consistant through there.

The Camaro was just magical around Motorland, handling well above expectations. Just the right amount of oversteer, and plenty of poke for the short straights, with the gearing for the longer sections. Not the fastest, but certainly a gem for it's age.

The 22B was far too understeery for Motorland, but a better tuner could probably dial it in a bit better. The AWD helped out of the corners, but was a disadvantage on entry.

The Saleen was just plain horrible here, with the long gearing, it simply wallowed on the short straights, and the brakes are nowhere near good enough to take proper advantage of the main straight. The best section with the Saleen is the first long right hander, which it didn't even think twice about taking at full throttle.

I am looking forward to Deep Forest, as I feel that there is where the 22B and Saleen will come into their own.

I agree with George,, The Ruf was very tricky IMO,, Understeer would slip into oversteer very easily,, The track was nice and short with some challenging corners who can get to you if you don't take 'em serious.. The Z06 was a dream,, Pink flowers everywhere,, It handled fantastic,, Just as the Mazda and the Lotus Esprit.. First round was very fun:)
 
Why thanks, guys, I'm glad you're enjoying it:) . I've known the secret that is Motorland for some time, and also felt that most of the success of the last series had a lot to do with the (relatively) unfamiliar circuits. And that last minute circuit change I foisted on you was part of the same thought process: we'd ended up with a list of the most used circuits in GT!

I'm loving the cars out there, I think people have really got into the spriit of things. In fact there isn't one car there that I wouldn't fancy thrashing round the track RIGHT NOW! And to be honest, I did it for the cars, and the variety of cars, and for people's thoughts on the cars... Not that I'm a car nut or anything...:D

Scaff! That GTI of your's is an honorary member of the Budget Division, and as such gets a Free Stage 1 Tune, allowing a further mod for this track, if you so wish!

How many agree with Dave about the Spyker running as standard? Need to sort this today if we're going to change the spec...
