So... lack of answers in the last two days plus the fact that I'll probably be away from my 'puter on thursday and hopefuly friday (I might start a new job

) make me have to post the answers today. Here goes:
1. Who was
Metallica's first bassist?
A: Many answers pointed to Cliff Burton, but Ron McGovney was the original bassist for
Metallica, helping record the "No Life 'Til Leather" demos, in 1982
2. Who is the lead singer of the band
Nine Inch Nails?
A: Trent Reznor. He's also the
only member of the band, at least in the studio.
3. In 1994, the band
Us3 had major hit with 'Flip Fantasia'. What was the original song it is based on?
A: Cantaloupe Island, by Herbie Hancock. The whole name of the
Us3 song is 'Canteloupe' (Flip Fantasia), but that would've made it too obvious. Nevertheless, not a lot of people got it.
4. Who is
U2's song 'Pride (In The Name of Love)' about? Extra points: What is the mistake in the lyrics of that song?
A: Martin Luther King. The song says he was killed 'early morning, April 4;' it actually happened in the evening.
5. Which band has the best-selling Greatest Hits CD of all time?
A: The Eagles. The Beatles was a popular answer, though, and they probably have the best selling GH album of all time (LP, MC and CD).
6. What does the accronym GWAR of the band by the same name mean?
A: God What and Awful Racket
7. What do Bootsy Collins, Phil Lesh, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones and Les Claypool have in common?
A: They were/are all bassist for their respective bands. Specifically, Bootsy Collins played for George Clinton and
Deee Lite; Phil lesh played for
Grateful Dead; Paul McCartney played for
The Beatles; John Paul Jones played for
Led Zeppelin; and Les Claypool for
Primus.
8. Which two artists were known as Devadip and Turiya?
A: Carlos Santana & Alice Coltrane. In the late 60s and early 70s they both did a series of songs as a way to keep the hippie movement alive. The songs are um.... interesting and very psychedelic. Santana plays the guitar and Coltrane the harp.
9. Despite being one of the greatest jazz artists of all time, John Coltrane's career (as a solo artist) was relatively short. How short? (between which and which years)
A: Coltrane started out as part of many bands between 1949 and 1954. In 1955 he was frontman for many bands, but his career as a solo artist was from 1960 to 1967.
10. Which band/record is this cover from?
Pink Floyd - Meddle (1971).
