I have been collecting money for a while already, I want to buy a wheel for GT5 and for GT6 in the future, but not sure which one.

I own Thrusmasters Ferrari GT Epxerience, but that is horrible, you can go faster with a controller.

Now, I am thinking of buying Ligitech G27, as many people recommend it.
Anyway, how good is it for GT5 ? And what esle can you recommend ?
 
I have owned a G27 since June 2012. I believe it's very well supported by PD and I certainly started posting better times after purchasing it. I built my own rig and it fits nicely onto many surfaces(adjustable). The lack of a physical e-brake is the only drawback but I rarely use that outside of license tests.
 
Well, it depends on how much you want to pay. DFGT, G27 and T500RS, are the most common ones. If you can justify paying ~$500 USD for the best wheel (T500RS); do it. If you can't/won't, then the second "best", is the G27, and then the DFGT.

However, the T500 does not come with an H-shifter, as the G27 does, so you'll have to pay some extra for it - if you want it :).
 
I just bought a G27 a few weeks ago, i upgraded from a DFGT. The DFGT is better with buttons but the G27 feels more authentic and realistic than the DFGT. The metal shifters and better pedals are the best things about the wheel over the DFGT IMO.

The only problem i've had with it was the lack of buttons that are as good as the DFGT's, and im personally having problems using the H-Shifter, but i've heard that GT5 has a bad H-shifter support so i will look into that some more.

But overall it is well worth +$200.

First of all thanks, I might be spendind around 500$ on the wheel. I will rarely use H-shifter so, thats not really a problem for me. But is T500RS worth additional 250 bucks ?

Thanks for sharing this. As I said, H-shifter isn't that much of a problem for me, but I have also heared G27 has some overheating issues ? Shall I pay attention to that ?
 
G27 is a very robust wheel. I'd get the g27 and save for a sim rig. A good seat is gonna make the experience better.

As long as you don't thrash it and drive x2010's on feedback 10 all day every day, I wouldn't worry about overheating.
 
DFGT if you can find one now.

I will take that in mind. Going to get the wheel in mid autumn, just before GT6 is out, so yeah, if things won't change I will probobly go for G27, if they do however, T500RS is my second best choice.

I have the DFGT..

I would love a $599 wheel and a nice racing seat but I don't have any simulation racing games. I have Grid 1 and Midnight Club:LA, also I don't know how to drive with a clutch (although I want to learn). So I made a purchase that worked out for me. I don't have any issues, the wheel is fine, I'm probably going to do the pedal modification that involves opening up the spring a little bit so the break pedal won't be so sensitive but otherwise for my skill level I think I made the correct purchase.

As I advance and into the next gaming generation I think I'll probably look into purchasing a more advanced wheel.
 
I have got a G27 it is 6 month old I use it every day with no problems and for the overheating issue I was on the Sebastian Vettel Challenge for 5 hours straight with no problems what so ever so if the mythbusters tested the G27 steering wheel and for overheating issues it will be BUSTED.

I haven't experienced that yet mainly since i don't use it everyday yet, but i would suspect that if you use it very often and don't have the right stand for it it could overheat, but i definitely won't overheat when you first get it.

So far, nobody has had problems with overheating, so I shall stop paying attention to that.
 
I used a G27 for about a year and a half. I am very hard on my wheels as I time trial every day for 6-7 hours straight. I have never had overheating issues and the wheel held up flawlessly.

You need a poll on this thread with the short list of what you can buy depending on your budget.

If budget were no issue to me, I'd go with the Thrustmaster T500RS, otherwise I might consider the Fanatec CS Wheel Base with M3 GT2 Rim, but I feel that even if this set is superior to the T500RS (which is debated), with pedals its a much dearer premium and not officially supported.

I have and used the DFGT, and I love it, I mean what more can you want? It's simple, beautiful construction, excellent DS3 buttons on the steering wheel, nice shifter buttons, direct feel, and decent pedals.

I upgraded to the G27, and its better, yeah, but its only better overall, there's tradeoffs, it has metal shifters, leather wheel and a clutch pedal, and a gate shifter, but considering the clutch in GT5 is wooden that's out, the buttons are on the shifter which ergonomically is far worse, and because of the external shifter there's all these bloody wires, can be a nightmare without practice.

There's lower end Fanatec products too, but again the value doesn't make sense to me.

Can't go wrong with DFGT or G27, both are so cheap these days, and you might as well get the G27, fingers crossed by GT7 there'll be a real clutch and the wheel will still be supported, but if the DFGT is super cheap (sub $80 idk), its an astonishing wheel with benefits in its own right.

Fanatec CS Wheel Base with M3 GT2 Rim was what I considered first, it looks just beautiful, but alot was said that it was not really worth additional 500$ if only you have no problems with cash.

Still for me G27 looks like the best wheel, I tried out DFGT and it kind of felt wrong. But everything needs practice ^^

If you got the money, I would go with the CSR Elite with Elite pedals. I've had the DFGT and the G27 and both are very good wheels for their price range, but the CSR just adds that much more to the whole driving and racing experience because of its superior build quality. Plus, its compatable with both the PS3 and XBox if you have one.
 
A few questions about the G27, as I also was pondering buying it.

-There is a 6-speed H patterned shifter, how does that work with a car with 7 gears?
-How well does the clutch work with the shifter? Does it allow for feathering the clutch?
-How does the Wheel and Shifter Mount? Is it a clamp system, with clamps only in the front? Is the anything to clamp/bolt the rear of the Wheel for stability? (If I get this I will probably want to build a cockpit though.)

You get to 6th, then use the paddle to get to 7th - in other words, it doesn't :/

In GT5, its virtually useless, no accelerator, clutch in, select gear, clutch 100% out, then use accelerator, its a pointless exercise, just don't use it with GT5.

The shifter has two clamps at the front, and a third plastic screw clamp at the rear in the middle, works very well.

The wheel has two clamps, which can fit onto very narrow surfaces with adapters, or quite thick surfaces without them, also works very well (may need minor adjustments after the first few corners of the first race to get the tightness just right).

There are also threaded holes on the wheel/shifter/pedals that you can use "M6" bolts to hard-mount with, to make it much more sturdy. I used this method on my rig. 👍
