Wow, this looks promising/interesting. Only just seen this since I didn't see E3 :(

Looks pretty cool. But until they show off some good games and announce a price, my interest is low.

The games they showed looked on par with 360, ps3. Some looked better (Alien Marines/Metro 2033), some looked much worse that it hurts (Tekken). Don't know what to expect from the console technically. I hate Nintendo by the way...

I've never hated Nintendo. A lot of people just think of Nintendo like they are a shadow of their former selves with no real hope of taking on Sony and Microsoft. This Wii U is absolutely interesting. The many ways to use and utilize it are very imaginative. With the gun sight deal, for some strange reason (perhaps because of trying to aim at people in the city), I almost imagined it was some 21st Century remake of Hogan's Alley with Mii.

Adam Sessler wasn't sold on the Wii U and thinks the Wii U's success will depend on how its progress goes one year from now. As for the Wii U name, I'm okay with it as I am with PSVITA/PSV. Wii was a laughable name until we've basically became accustomed to it. Now add "U" to the end of "Wii." Maybe this will give Nintendo a little spark. Or then again, people will think this is the next Gamecube or the next Virtual Boy. I'm hopeful it will do well.

I have a feeling that this might pull a wii 1. Everybody going to buy one, for there familys, be excited and have fun for a couple of weeks and never touch it again. I am in high school and about everyone i know has a wii and more and most of them also have a ps3 or 360. Most of them say there family also never touch it. What i am seeing with the wii u is pretty cool, but i have a feeling its going to sell well, but i really dont think your going to here people saying lets go play call of duty tonight on the wiiiU. What i am trying to say is that Nintendo will never really cater to hard core fans, if the main things involve gimmicks. Yeah ps3 and 360 are trying to sell gimmicks, but thats not there main income.

Yeah i am bashing Nintendo.

But hate there cockiness its so annoying

If the U controller can do porn, I think Nintendo hit the jackpot. Reminds me of that hilarious Xbox 360 webcam comic from Penny Arcade.

Wii U's still a crappy name for a console. It's slightly better than "Wii" but still not as good as "Cafe". Don't get me wrong, Cafe is a pretty bad name unless you consider it's Nintendo. Then it works quite well. Just like "Revolution" was a WAY better name than "Wii" Okay...prehaps they should swap their guys in charge of naming stuff. That way we'd get Project Wii Wii and it come out as Nintendo Rocket or something.

What I find so interesting about the Wii U is that it is a pretty clear signal that we are living in a post-Apple world. While the PSVita was the first really clear answer to gaming on the iPhone, the Wii U in some ways seems like the straightforward answer to the iPad2. In the best of ways, I have to give it to Nintendo for thinking outside of the box with this one. But, at the same time, I generally left with more questions than answers...

For one thing, we really don't know the power behind whatever is involved here. While the sizzle reel certainly makes the Wii U seem as powerful as the 360 and the PS3 in some respects, it still does not seem quite as cutting-edge as it will need to be when the inevitable 360 X2 and PS4 roll around. Nevertheless, the graphics do look damn good. It is a nice sight to see, particularly as Nintendo ended up sitting most of this round out.

Furthermore, we have no idea what is actually involved with the console itself. We know that it looks a bit like a Wii, but turned on its side. We know it will have 1080p output via HDMI, it will be backwards compatible with everything the Wii would work with... And that's about it. Gaming appears to be delivered through the television, or to the controller itself... Kinda like a SlingBox or OnLive. There hasn't been any indication of what the controller hardware itself will consist of aside from the basics... A 6.2" touchscreen, front-facing camera... The joysticks, directional pad and buttons. I'd love to know how the streaming works between the console and the controllers. Is it WiFi? Bluetooth? Something else? How many of the Wii U controllers can be connected to it? It looks like, based on the early demos, that it is just one Wii U controller and as many as four "original" Wii controllers that can be used together.

Still, I feel like the concept is solid. Execution will be critical for making the Wii U a successful platform. The fact that so many third-party publishers are embracing it so early is a great sign. Generally, their imagination is their only hurdle at this point. Based on what EA had hinted at, I'm definitely most-excited to be able to play Madden '1x on the Wii U and use the new controller as a playbook of some kind. Beyond that, I'm really excited to hear what Rocksteady has in store for Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U.

I think the big deciding factor is going to be the price. In a strange way, I see the Wii U as a PSVita competitor, despite the fact that it is not a portable platform. If they can sell us the console, one of the fancy new controllers, include the HDMI cable and ensure that the system uses WiFi... At $399 or so, it should be a pretty good deal. Color me interested...

I was sold the second that LoZ tech de -- er, what was it Reggie called em? I don't want the Regginator visiting my home.

You know what I'd really like to see? MGS and Crysis on Wii U. Why? Simple:

Imagine how much more effective your inventory slots become. No longer will you have to hold L or R1 to pan through your items and weapons; you can do it 'easily' on the Wii U's controller. You could guide the Nikita missiles with the Wii U's controller, you can do 'real-time' aiming and lock on with the Stinger using the Wii U's controller. As for Crysis it's much of the same thing; pan through the available modes at the touch of a finger. Panning through your entire weapons inventory. Using the U's controller in conjuction with the Wii Zapper and using it as a scope where you can change to Strength Mode at will.

A gimmick? By literal definition, absolutely. Can it reignite the spark in the Wii and take it even further? Again, absolutely. Watch Sony and Microsoft implement similar options once this takes off.

Nintendo fans will buy every remake and version of zelda that Nintendo comes up with. And so they will buy this thingie as well and feel that it is awesomely... new. And then Nintendo will have more money.

And I will notice that it was shiny white, then continue with PS3 because I like gaming, not gimmicky hardware that runs old ideas inside a fresh looking box.

What is this...I don't even.

This needs to have hardcore games on it to appeal to any proper gaming fan. CoDs, Battlefields, FIFA's, etc. And not half cut versions, we cant accept them anymore, it was fair enough on the Wii because it didnt have the power but if this is supposedly as powerful as 360 and PS3 then there is no excuse.

I do not think the hardcore gamers who never cared for the Wii or Game cube will want to surrender their Gamer score, their clans theirs online friends just to use the controller and have possibly slightly better graphics. No Built in HDD means DLC is going to cost you more in the long run with need for external HDDs. Or stocking up on SD cards.(kinda backwards thinking if you ask me).

In my opinion it gives Nintendo fans a reason to lose that secondary system for those multiplatform games that are impossible on Wii. I know I will not be buying the WiiU for multiplatform games or Nintendo games, at this point I have no reason to get a WiiU as I'm not a huge Fan of Lego games......

The name makes Vita seem more reasonable. Until Mario uses profanity and Link can behead enemies and bleed. I'll pass, like I have since N64. Don't get me wong I love my Katamari, but not as a flagship title.

I keep getting a crack out of people saying CoD is for hardcore gamers. That aside, the Wii did have some solid titles that were not geared towards complete kids. Metroid Corruption and No More Heroes.

Honestly, if Nintendo just goes about pushing out the same crap Sony and Microsoft have been doing, there won't be much reason to care for the WiiU either.

Sounds like you care less about gameplay and more about being a macho man. Sigh.

Need I point out that if you want an LoZ with proper blood display you should try playing any modern day game that's not for the NA market. I believe Twilight Princess rectifies this with it's T rating but I can't remember.

In any case anyone who knows LoZ, namely Ocarina of Time knows the cut scene when Ganondorf spits up (red) blood was changed to green for us. To not affect the kiddies.

Pokemon Snap 2 with the tablet acting as the viewfinder is literally the only thing that I can find myself caring about the WiiHD for.

Of course, I would literally buy the system purely to play that one game, but whatever.

You are absolutely right. Both PS3,Ps2, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC, Dreamcast and every other console that wasn't made by Nintendo totally lacked gameplay. I'm 32 and have been gaming since coleco, I do have a right to have my own taste in games. Or should I let the media and other gamers decide for me what I should play?

Anyway I did not mean I want blood in Zelda, Just that I totally lost interest in Nintendo games as I got older. They've lost me forever post N64. When I play Demon's Souls I can't help but think what if Zelda was like this?

After not caring for the Wii at all, I'm really looking forward to the Wii U and I'm not really sure why. I think maybe it's this:

I'm finding myself getting more and more disenchanted with where the gaming industry and games themselves are heading, and I'm just losing interest in even my favourite series. It seems to me that games focus on everything but simple fun and immersiveness and I'm really starting to miss it (review sites don't help either).

I've started playing my old SNES games again now and it's amazing, the games still suck me in, bring back fond memories and are still FUN! The musical scores are memorable, catchy and suit the gameplay. The action is simple, but challenging. The story in them is interesting, or at least wacky and fun. They were hard, but not due to glitches or bad camera angles, but because good timing and thought was needed.

Recently, other than Shift 2, which brought new life to racing for me, nothing has come even close to the awesomeness of games like Metroid, Mario Kart, Battletoads, Megaman, Secret of Mana, Rock 'n Roll Racing etc :( - actually, the Scott Pilgrim and Megaman 9 games were pretty cool.

I'm hoping by some miracle that the Wii U will reintroduce some of that magic again...

I'm 25 and I've gaming since ColecoVision, your point?

Generally when I see that "well if it only had mature content" mindset, it just seems like people care too little about the actual gameplay. Yes, there are good games on XBOX and PS3, but the vast majority feel shallow compared to many other games. Even Nintendo suffers from this. But some of their staple games have solidly held their gameplay elements and appeal. Metroid is one of the few games that made a solid transition to an FPS from originally being a side scroller.

I guess I just feel when people are worried about blood and language being in there, it tends to result in cheaper games. The two Ninja Gaidens on the modern generation are a bit like this. More boobs, blood, etc in the 2nd one but it was a much easier and shallower game it felt like. Maybe I am just too into old school difficulty and game design; most modern games haven't held much appeal to me. Even among the multiplayer games, I just tend to stick to SC2 and Counter Strike. CoD just feels much more casual and has a far more shallow skill curve.

But that is just me ranting at this point. Really, I just think Nintendo should continue to do what they do, because it separates them from the crowd a bit and results in some stunning games, even if they don't appeal to the "mature" gamers as much.

I guess his point (if I may butt in here) is that 'more mature' doesn't mean gameplay being replaced with blood and boobs.
Take a look at, say, Red Dead Redemption. Does that game lack in terms gameplay? Personally, I'd say it's pretty much brilliant in that regard. Still, there weren't many games like that on previous Nintendo consoles, or am I mistaken there?

Anyways, on topic: Zelda looks good and I'll, once gain, will be pretty annoyed because I'll be aching to play it, but won't shell out for a console just for a single game.
What I'm wondering about, though: If the Wii U is on par with the Xbox360 and PS3 now, maybe a little ahead... Wouldn't that mean that Nintendo will be down on raw processing power as soon as Sony and Microsoft launch their next generation of consoles?

Either way... As long as Nintendo doesn't start a very good, exclusive sim-racing franchise, I won't have to really consider it

I just watched the unveiling thing on Youtube, i'm not mocking but I thought it was funny on how all the emphasis was placed on the controller and nothing on the system. Good job. 👍

You missed it. But I only represent myself in this. Its just my taste in consoles, and Nintendo's comes off somewhat like a toy. The lack of a traditional controller turns me off. And I dont need it just for fun as I game by myself and I'm happy with what I have. All my favorite games and game types do not exist in a satisfying form on the Wii. Not a fan of any of Nintendo's franchises anymore. To add to that. I never played Any Halo after the first. Not a Fan of Metal Gear, Uncharted, Gears of War, God of War. I've developed my own taste in games in my 20+ years of gaming.

I was disappointed because I thought they would lose the Whole Wii theme and introduce something completely new in line with N64. I'm just sharing my thoughts on this.

There are no winners in a console war, only losers.

If the leaked specs are entirely factual it'll be ahead of the 360 in terms of outright theoretical processing power, and ahead of both the PS3 and 360 in terms of it's GPU. (redacted) And of course it'll lack processing power when compared to whatever Sony and MS launch next; it seems the Wii U was only meant to extend the Wii's lifespan by essentially injecting it with steroids. It will probably only last as a "new" console until 2015.
