IBM has confirmed that the CPU is the same arc used in Watson,
IBM didn't confirm POWER7. IBM confirmed POWER-based and 45nm process. Nothing more. For all we know, the WiiHD could come out with a CELL in it and it would be perfectly in line with what IBM said.

It was Engadget jumping to huge conclusions that started all of this POWER7 talk.

Sounds fantastic. I'm getting one. (for the benifit of the kids of course). He he.

Really? I stand corrected then. I read that on Xbit and they're usually incredibly reliable.

This is the press release IBM put out Tuesday about their role with the system, which is thus far the only information IBM has given about the CPU:
ARMONK, N.Y., June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it will provide the microprocessors that will serve as the heart of the new Wii U™ system from Nintendo. Unveiled today at the E3 trade show, Nintendo plans for its new console to hit store shelves in 2012.

The all-new, Power-based microprocessor will pack some of IBM's most advanced technology into an energy-saving silicon package that will power Nintendo's brand new entertainment experience for consumers worldwide. IBM's unique embedded DRAM, for example, is capable of feeding the multi-core processor large chunks of data to make for a smooth entertainment experience.

IBM plans to produce millions of chips for Nintendo featuring IBM Silicon on Insulator (SOI) technology at 45 nanometers (45 billionths of a meter). The custom-designed chips will be made at IBM's state-of-the-art 300mm semiconductor development and manufacturing facility in East Fishkill, N.Y.

The relationship between IBM and Nintendo dates to May 1999, when IBM was selected to design and manufacture the central microprocessor for the Nintendo GameCube™ system. Since 2006, IBM has shipped more than 90 million chips for Nintendo Wii systems.

"IBM has been a terrific partner for many years. We truly value IBM's commitment to support Nintendo in delivering an entirely new kind of gaming and entertainment experience for consumers around the world," said Genyo Takeda, Senior Managing Director, Integrated Research and Development, at Nintendo Co., Ltd.

"We're very proud to have delivered to Nintendo consistent technology advancements for three generations of entertainment consoles," said Elmer Corbin, director, IBM's custom chip business. "Our relationship with Nintendo underscores our unique position in the industry -- how we work together with clients to help them leverage IBM technology, intellectual property and research to drive innovation into their own core products."

Built on the open, scalable Power Architecture base, IBM custom processors exploit the performance and power advantages of proven silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. The inherent advantages of the technology make it a superior choice for performance-driven applications that demand exceptional, power-efficient processing capability – from entertainment consoles to supercomputers.

Linky.

So, basically, its POWER-based and is 45nm (which, whoop-de-do, so is the Xenon in the 360 and the CELL in the PS3).

Engadget took that statement, found some off-hand comment IBM made about Watson, then wrote up an article saying that the WiiHD was going to use the same POWER7 architecture as Watson (Apparently based on the logic that since this will be an "all-new" chip, and since the POWER7 architecture used in Watson is state of the art, they must be made from the same components. Or something.). And then the entire internet started linking to it.

So, Link is right-handed again (NO!), you can sprint, and the timer appears to denote momentary exhaustion, and he sounds even manlier than he does in Twilight Princess. I want it. NOW.

He's also a tightrope walker now. I can see myself falling at least four or five times from being a bit nervous.

First ingame screens of a WiiU game. I told you, Nintendo sucks, the game looks no way better than 360.

http://gamersyde.com/news_e3_killer_freaks_announced-11328_en.html

But it would be impossible for the games to look worse than 360 surely (in general) as the specs are at least equivalent, or better. If the Nintendo is part of a multi-platform console game for Wiiu,360,PS3, that multiplatform game is going to look best on the WiiU, end of discussion. Or is it?

I imagine the first round of games won't be as good as later released ones.

As history shows since, well every console I believe.

"Early 2011 Version"

Enough said. Don't judge something before seeing the final product. You love putting your foot square in your mouth, don't you?

:lol::lol::lol:

Chill, would you?

I also wanted to troll once ok? It's just a Nintendo-me thing, I don't like 'em, they sell ancient hardware totally overpriced, and succeed at it=not deserved=me not like this.

U Jelly?

That's the vibe I'm getting.

Uncharted was pretty good...

I believe the third party games they've shown so far are actually running on 360/ps3 because the devs haven't been given the wii U to work with yet. I think it was mentioned on Joystiq.

You sound pretty mad. Do you think Nintendo is also responsible for chemtrails with all that money they made from the Wii? Neuron Toxin that makes people buy Nintendo products, spread out over the atmosphere in aerosol form?

That can be the only answer, right? They can't possibly make a good product, can they?

Nintendo Admited all those games were/ PS3/360/PC versions. I do think Tekken Wii was real but may have been a Wii demo that never seen the light of day because it did not look good at all.

I didn't think people could be THAT pathetic , thanks for opening my eyes! 👍:sly:

You need to check over some of your previous posts and not just in this thread before calling someone else pathetic.

I'm just going to put that out there.

Perhaps you should review your posts in this thread, or maybe others, before resulting to personal attacks. Just an idea though.

Before you advice somebody not be aggressive, you shouldn't start "it" yourself in the first place, hypocrit.

God get over yourself you nerd, yeah I offended Nintendo, I don't like them for certain reasons. Don't take everything so serious, it's the internet, and we're talking about gaming, not human rights.👎

Don't believe I posted another DP, sigh.

Maybe you should stop showing off how you hate such and such?

Or learn to take a joke.

Oh noes, you just called me a nerd. If you'll excuse I need to go and check myself because being a nerd is the absolute worse!

EDIT: Actually on topic is more Skyward Sword

Surprise, surprise.

Nintendo Will Not Enable DVD, Blu-Ray Disc Playback on Wii U.

Nintendo does not want its next-generation Wii U game console to become a Blu-ray and DVD player, which is why it will not support playback of appropriate formats. Slashing support of BD and DVD allows Nintendo to cut down the cost of the console since it will not need to pay for technology licenses.

"Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities. The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it did not warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies," said Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, reports Gamasutra web-site.

nintendo_wii_u_console_controller_2.jpg

Nintendo used proprietary optical discs with its GameCube console and while it used industry-standard 12cm discs with Wii, the latter did not support DVD in all regions but Japan.

Nintendo Wii U combines motion-sensing game play with the ability to support full HD graphics and generally performance demanding games that can run on consoles like Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3. The system itself is based on a custom IBM Power microprocessor as well as a modern ATI Radeon HD graphics chip with high-definition graphics and video support. But the main feature of the code-named Cafe game console is its unique controller with 6.2" touch-screen that also features an accelerometer and a gyroscope, a rumble feature, an inward-facing camera, a microphone and speakers that can be used to play both classic Gamecube/Wii games as well as specially designed titles that take advantage of the screen. Each Wii U console will be partnered with a new controller and can also use up to four additional Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus controllers. The system is also backward compatible and can play all Wii games and use all Wii accessories. Nintendo Wii U will cost more than $249.

Now to be honest it's hard to dispute the reasoning that's stated for the lack of media functionality as it's mostly, well, true. However what about the new customers who will only have a Wii U? On the other hand, again, it's difficult to dispute the reasoning behind it...of course it's an unwise decision in the long run but when has Nintendo ever tried to be a full entertainment venue?

Saw that coming a mile off, Nintendo has traditionally never wanted to go with a mainstream media format or pay licensing fee's. They will just go and again create their own priority format probably with the characteristics of Blu Ray. To be honest I see where Nintendo is coming from, what home doesnt already have like 5 DVD players and by the time the U comes out at least one Blu Ray player.

MS will probably do the same with the next xbox, raise HD-DVD from the dead as use it as their own format, anything to avoid paying royalties to Sony!

Robin.
