Well this is a racing game, not a fashion show. Wings will improve your times and surely that's the bottom line? Or maybe we'll just start adding Boom Boxes and Hydraulics like GTA San Andreas.

The amount of times I've been told that putting a spoiler on a 458 for instance is murder for the cars looks well guess what, I'm not the one looking at the back of my car when I'm doing .5 quicker laps.

This.

I never do wings for appearances, and I'm not quick to mount one on there, but if I think it'll make a meaningful improvement to my performance I'm happy to run wings. I don't go around taping wings onto just anything.

+1, i currently have about 350 cars in my garage an i would say less than 20 of them have wings. If it improves the handling of the car, i'm all up for it.

I do have a GT spoiler with risers fitted to my track car and along with the front splitter have to say it certainly makes the difference when you are cornering at high speeds.

Chrome Ferrari 458 Italia.

Gold Chrome wheels.

Biggest wing.

RS tires.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. LOL.

Wings are good if they make a car look better off. But if they don't make it look better off to start with, then you could theoretically get around it by sticking on a good looking body kit that doesn't make the wing look completely out of place (i.e. modern-day high level touring cars)...unfortunately very few bother to do that in real life, and you can't in GT5 either.

I Generally don't like wings etc. on cars. In my opinion the car looks the nicest when it stays to the original design and has the sleekest appearence, just like the designer meant it to be. A good example is the original Lamborghini Countach design:

But on the modern supercars you need downforce and they have mechanical air intakes (murcielago) and wings (Veyron/Aventador/McLaren/Etc). So you have the best of both worlds. Looks nice when it stands still and also good handling when going fast.

There needs to be another few options to the poll.

I run most of my cars without spoilers, either when I drift or just grab something to drive for pleasure.

But on the odd occasion I have grabbed a car, with the aim to make is as fast as possible, such as my 'GT3 R8' which has all tuning and a massive wing on the rear.

It's a car built for purpose over style, while still looking beautiful in it's own way.

The countach is one I would disagree with.

When I was 8-9 years old I had a countach on my wall with that beautiful huge wing and thought it was the car to rule all cars..

That wing is legendary to me.

At some cars it looks amazing if it isn't a huge spoiler.
Cars like the BMW M5 shouldn't be fit with spoilers in my opinion.

I like them but as long as they are kept within a reasonable size. Some wings will suit some cars, and I will allow this. But there's no point in putting a wing on your car if it's only going to be used for the school run/popping to the shops/picking up some friends

If it's on a muscle car, most likely no. UNLESS it came as an option from the factory. (IE: Mach 1 Mustang)

Only if it has purpose, which most on multiplayer doesn't.

What's a ricer? I would vote if I knew what this meant because I think this is the deciding factor.

I think certain cars look good, certain cars DO NOT! But street cars trying to be race cars? No, they still look like a street car, but worse.

(not my pic)

If the wing or spoiler fits with the car, I am all for it. It's the ones that look completely out of place that I can't stand.

Well, spoilers help a lot in downforce, but not all cars look good in it nor need it.

I put a rear wing on some of my cars that need stability.

Depends. Parts that are smooth and nice and suit the car well - not like the parts kids my age who run around in Civics with tacky body kits and horridly huge (and ugly) wings - are prefered. But everyone has their own opinion on what's best.

Which reminds me of good ol' Need For Speed Carbon. Just picked up a used copy a couple days ago and remembered the autoscuplt system. If only more games used this...we could easily remove the argument on whether to add body kits or not.

I like certain styles of wing on certain cars. It really depends on the car. Some cars look great with wings (Aston Martin DB9, Tommykaira ZZII), others look awful (Lexus GS300, Suzuki Swift). My $0.02.

EDIT:
Worst poll selections ever.

I like having wings on my cars if it will help with downforce but sometimes people will take it the wrong way and put it on a car when it's not going to help you at all.

Even if you do hate wings, you have to admit some cars would a lot of cool points without one.

The Zonda is one beautiful car, but remove the wing(s) and you get some sort of wedge type machine from Mars.

Of course if you get into the performance value side of things there are a number of people who do believe that with a properly tuned suspension and LSD, you will get higher performance from the extra power that not having a wing affords you.

+1

Wings in GT5 create more understeer and most cars already suffer from massive amounts of understeer. I don't use them unless they are required by the racing series/tuner challenge or I need them to get to the PP level. Wings in GT5 are always slower.

Wings will improve your times and surely that's the bottom line?

See point above and check out any of the FITT tuner challenges. Most of us don't add wings. In fact, in the most recent FITT race car challenge, most of the top tunes used minimum downforce. Spec 2.09 has really added some penalty for using max downforce.
