So if we get around 600 cars that means there will be approximatively 300 japanese cars
I'm joking but polyphony must put some variety into their car list

If it's anything like GT4, then I can assure you that even if you chose to never use a single Japanese made car in the game, you still wont find any other game that has more cars from more manufacturers from more countries and of a wider variety of the type of cars as you will in GT... that has been and will likely continue to be one of the strengths of this series... but I also am willing to bet, just as we saw in GT4, there will be no shortage of people ranting over what they claim are "too many" Japanese cars.

Assuming Acura, Lexus, Mine’s, Blitz, and some fictional “Tuned” cars are Japanese cars then almost 40% of the cars in GT5P are represented by Japan!

Polyphony’s recent collaboration with manufacturers outside of Japan is promising (Citroen, Lotus, Ferrari, etc.) but here’s hoping for even more variety as well…
👍

so what if there are too many japanese cars in GT5. in my country or i should say island we import a lot of japanese cars and i have no problem with them as a matter of fact i own one myself. even if half cars in GT5 are from japan, that still leaves over 300 cars, thats even more cars in any other racing title. JAPANESE CARS = CHEAP HP an as we all know credits are always limited/hard to get when you have to start a GT series. most birds fly south for winter anyway.

For sure that GT has the biggest variety of cars (like 700 in GT4:tup:) and that's awesome but they don't need to put like 50 cars of the same model
I'm a corvette lover but I don't want 50 Corvettes in GT5

I found this on another forum...

Guy from other forum
GT4 has twice as many Japanese cars as all of the other cars combined, from other countries world-wide. There are more than 50 Skylines alone! Since one of the goals for GT4 was that it was supposed to represent the "history of the automobile", why couldn't a more balanced set of cars be included, from all of the regions of the world?

Here's the link: linky (CTRL+F "Japanese" to find it

And I agree with this guy... we are talking about the world's best-selling racing game. GT5 has the potential to become the fastest and best-selling game period for the PS3. If, true to the rumors, there are 700 cars, and 400 of them are Japanese, that would take away from the variety of the game. Sure, it's a challenge to get all of them, but I just don't think it's worth it.

Well that didn't take long...

Then don't get them all if it bothers you that much....

As with GT4... who cares what "percentage" of cars are Japanese? They could have 5,000 Japanese cars.. and the same number of other cars as before and you know what... you still wont find any other game that has more cars from more manufacturers from more countries and of a wider variety of the type of cars as you will in GT...

If percentages are what is important and not the actual cars, then by that logic a game with just 20 cars, one car from only one manufacturer from 20 different countries would be better than a game with 700 cars, half of which are Japanese, but more than 20 cars from multiple manufacturers from just as many countries.

Again... just as in GT4, if it bothers you so much about all the Japanese cars, and all the Skylines... don't use them! Guess what, if you don't use them, then it doesn't impact your game... Unless something changes, GT is an open world game, letting you decide what you want to do. Hack, even if you are about game completion, if GT5 is anything like GT4, then you can still avoid using the vast majority of Japanese cars.

So once again, why does it matter what the ratio is as long as there are far more cars in GT from around the world that other games lack?

You do have a point. Though it is a Japanese game, so more Japanese cars are to be expected, but yes I'd much rather have a ton of cars to choose from, even if there are multiples. It still kinda sucks that there are so many skylines, but that didn't stop me from buying all of them, as I'm a car collector in GT :sly:

But yeah, I'll take 400 Japanese cars out of 700 rather than 50 completely unique cars. There is still enough of a variety overall, though many of us would want more, but hey, we finally got Ferrari, and hopefully some other manufacturers will jump on the train as well. Car count or variety really is the least of my worries for GT5.

I'm so hoping for a November or December release. GT5, well at the time GT5 Prologue was the only reason I brought a PS3 and seeing as Prologue hasn't been updated since Spec III, I've lost a great deal of interest in it, although I still play it from time to time.

From my point of view, I can't wait almost a full year for it to hit the shelves my PS3 has been boxed longer than I'd care to think about...I'd might as well sell the thing if that's the case.

And I really don't want to. :indiff:

were is everyone getting 700 cars from? the message says 600.

Wait what message? Did I miss something? Ahh found it..

But I still think amar is just speculating on the FUTURE? But hey, he might know! and if PD wanted to tell somone, amar is person to be.

Wrong. Or do you really think they've made 20 different 3D models if a car has 20 colour options? Certainly not. And at least in GT4 every single car had textures - easily seen in the jagged panel lines - so I can't see them changing the style. See the following part to understand why texturing is the way to go.

In GT4, texture was there to display only panels, gaps between them and some shadowy parts of car body. But now in GT5:P panels and gaps are fully geometric. I think cars in GT have textures only for materials in interior. Metal parts of body are just made by game engine with exact shape color and kind of material (metallic, pastel, pearlescent, chrome) in mind. Therefore colour is just one parameter to change and engine does the rest. You can clearly see those pearlescent colours of TVR's changing by light angle like in real life, it's certainly not only texture.

I think now all cars (in GT5P) are all base white, as there is no need to add texture layers to simulate panel gaps, headlights etc. When you choose a colour it gets layered on top of the base white, which is why sometimes due to a bug peoples cars go white when playing with quick tune.

This will also make custom paint colours and liveries a breeze.

I really hope you're right. It does make sense. I hope you will be able to repaint the car in any color. Liveries aren't as important though, most cars would look like crap anyway.

Well, that's harsh. :p Besides, it doesn't have to be that way. A range of templates would enable those with no artistic skills to create a livery good enough to help them stand out in a crowd of preset race cars. And believe me, a bunch of American and Brit/Oz kids bought Forza games, and most of their liveries look pretty good. I was active in the community for about a year, and the "crap" cars were pretty rare. You'd be surprised what you can do with just a few decals, vinyls and a number badge.

My Vette Z06 turned silver, because there is no white colour to choose :)

Silver may be it's 'base' or default colour in which others are layed on top of (or not if you choose silver). I hope it works like that as it will make it easy to add any colour we want.

I simply don't understand that "white" idea. White is color like any other, we are not in real world where base colors are necessary. Car color is just parameter of game engine the same way as second, third and fifteenth color for pearlescent lacquers. Without it, there would be just wirecage. With it, you can see wonderful cars covered by panels in selected color and enlightened from very good lightning engine of GT5:P. When you choose the car in Dealerships menu, there could be full color palette instead of those predefined ones as well. It would be work done in ten minutes for PD programmers to do that.

That white color as well as silver for Vette was probably just marked as default if something in game engine went wrong and color parameter turns into mismatch.

No!
It always depends on the engine used, its not that easy.

When the car colour change bug rears it's ugly head, does the interior change to default aswell? I have the gunmetal grey 599 and wouldn't mind it changing to white, but I really want rid of that horrendous dark blue interior.

I am fairly certain the content from gt5p wont goto waist. So I agree on the 2 different games, a full game and then the rest of the content not contained on prologue will be downloadable or something along those lines. As for the release date, Im really hoping for '09 date not '10, especially since Kaz laughed at the notion of a 2010 release date.

But we never know if there's any delay on the release date, as KY said, this is GRAN TURISMO.

I am pretty sure it's 2010 release.. at first he laugh, but then he did not..
I care less if it's 2012! I just wanna hear GOOD news on E3 so that I want to keep waiting for it.
We all know Body kits will make it
We all know Livery editor will be there, even if its basic I will be happy
We all know Private online racing will be there
What we don't know, Damage, how will it work
and we don't know about weather and 24h day night cycles.

Here is my question

Will the extensive "clan" feature give us the ability to temporarily add GTP in front of our names like so many first person shooters so we don't have to create a new account and miss out on all the trophies?
