Yea, it was on top gear a few weeks ago. I love the scene where they show the news anchors and you see Clarkson driving past in the background

The Peel P50. The prototype was even smaller. The bubble-like version is called the Trident.

The same car that Clarkson drove - and the "sporty" version - were both at the Goodwood Revival Meeting in 2006. All my pictures from my old camera.

Well can I ask you guys something?
How much can i get one of these P50? Or better yet, can i build one? :dopey: I mean it should be cheap and easy to maintain, plus it can go 100 miles to the gallon! :D Can't believe this thing never got popular with the environmentalists......

Anything up to £25,000 for an original, around £5,000 or more for a replica. So says Google.

Don't forget that if you did anything more dangerous than nudged a kerb, you'd die. And you couldn't take anyone - or even anything with you.

Well, city commute... but I agree. If everyone was driving one of those, however, that risk would be reduced by means of awareness.

Would have loved to see the Stig manhandle this beast around the TG track though.

Wow.....i can't believe how expensive it is to buy 1 nowadays and to think it would only cost 100£ back in the 60's. :guilty: But i guess building a similar car to the P50 wouldn't be so hard....and if everything else fails, get a go cart chassis, build a body on top of it and put a 50cc engine inside and..... :D

What's so wrong with a 250cc 2 stroke - I mean, it struggled beyond reality with Clarkson in it :-)

Well of course, but i just wanted to keep the car's spec as close to the real thing. If it was like that, i wouldn't mind having a Hayabusa engine or even an R6 engine inside the P50! 👍

That would probably be going a little overboard - But a 250cc smoker would be just fine me thinks ;-)

Ill take mine with a CR500

Honestly...I'm not even sure that engine...AND YOU...would fit comfortably. I could see you burning your back on a hot seat because of the proximity of the exhaust pipe to the seatback...unless the engine faces the other way, in which case it might be hanging out the back...or through the sides of the back. not to mention...it's water cooled. Where ya gonna put the radiator?

and it'd tip at Corvette speeds, come first corner.

It's a tiny car. actually, tricycle. Hell, the (one wheel drive) King Midget is bigger!

How about an air engine for the P50, as seen in the air-powered car thread? Given the car's light weight, it could easily push the P50 along, regardless of type. Type 1 would even allow the driver to sit comfortably (as possible in such a small car) without burning their backsides, and Type 2 would free up a lot of space for luggage (whatever fits there), and even a proper reverse gear? The perfect car, except for price at the moment.
