The Worst DLCs thread

There are some pretty pointless DLCs out there. One that comes to mind is for Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. All the costumes are available for purchase for 200 points per set. If you do the math, to get all the achievements that's $202. Because you'd have to buy each set for every character. Which is stupid. If they fixed it so you'd only have to buy the sets once, that'd be better, but...it's Konami. Yeah, I think I'd rather spend 400 hours farming the achievements than fork out over 20 times as much money than I spent for the game.

I know what you mean, Codemasters did something similar for DiRT 3, as well as NFS: Shift providing an XP/unlockable cars pack to save people from playing the game to earn them...

Sort of pointless.

-There was an "Italian Car Pack" for NFS:The Run a while back. It basically added nothing to the game as it just recycled cars from past NFS games.

-The Gran Turismo 5 "Paint Pack" was pretty pointless too in my opinion.

-The "October LCE Car Pack" for Forza Horizon was awful, as it included cars that were already in the game in a "beefed-up" form.

-Most of "The Sims 3" things on the store are outrageously priced, even though they add quite a bit of content. Also, the worlds that you can buy are pointless because you can just make your own in the World Creator program that EA released.

-Black Ops 2 Map Packs; they're so expensive, even if they do add new maps.

-Most Saints Row the Third DLC; no explanation needed.

Exactly this. Just ridiculous!

Any game with content that ships locked on the disc and in the case of Need For Speed Pro Street and Forza 4 cars that are in races but you can't use them unless you pay for them.

Every single thing for Uncharted 3. And every DLC for DC Universe Online.
The map packs are pretty cool and cheap if you get a used copy of the GOTY edition (£15) but the microtransactions are stupid and also spending £25 for 200 tourney tickets.

I think the Forza 4 "Essentials" edition was stupid. I mean, you're paying the exact same price for the game plus all the disc 2 DLC, so, why sell the Essentials Edition? Turn10 isn't getting anymore money from it. In fact, they're most likely getting less, because you buy the EE for cheaper and then you pay MS for the points to buy the rest of the content. It's just plan flat stupid.

Whilst I agree that edition is stupid you do realise Turn 10 ARE Microsoft? It's all going to the same company.

Well...kinda. Turn10 are a First Party developer, true. But, that doesn't mean they get the same amount of money from people buying Disc 2 stuff through MS Points as they do when people buy the full game.

Turn 10 employees are obviously paid by Microsoft because they are an internal Microsoft company. The money all goes to the same pot no matter how people buy content. Turn 10 aren't a company that fund themselves through game sales and aren't "losing" money by people buying stuff from MS.

Day 1 DLC. /Thread :P

I am most ashamed of DiRT 3's DLC as noted earlier. They're quite expensive for just a few things. Even the sponsorships, like... why?

To my knowledge, in the case of FM4, that's only applicable for the VIP car pack and Pre-Order Bonus Car pack. Which is very similar to the Chromeline/Stealth models in GT5; I got my Stealth McLaren on account of pre-ordering, and the Chromelines for buying the more expensive collector's edition. Is it better or worse that one game offers unique cars for extra money compared to unique versions of cars already available in the game, with some stripes and logos on them? Up to the consumer 👍

Which I guess is the whole message with all DLC, but there are definitely some terrible ones out there. It frightens me how much money one (possibly in)sane person could spend on costumes in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. All combined, it's undoubtedly more than the entry price of the game!

I'm not convinced that the situation vis á vis D3's DLC cars is wholly so. There were issues reported beforehand to do with licensing that were not resolved before the game launched. That meant they could not allow the cars in question to be playable until that was resolved.

Now, true those cars should have been free DLC in that case, but I put that down more to Codemasters being owned by a group of investors who have the final say.

I'm not sure what the sponsorships you mention were EliteDreamer - were they liveries?

The "Ultimate" DLC for NFS Most Wanted 2012 was pretty poor.

£7.99 for 4 Cars and pretty much nothing else is only a little over-priced.

One that comes to mind is the "Armed & Dangerous" pack for NFS: Hot Pursuit. For $6.99, you got two new online game modes (that probably should've been in the game itself)...and that's it. Also, after a few weeks, people stooped playing both of them.

I'm not sure what the sponsorships you mention were EliteDreamer - were they liveries?

Yes, they were. They had companies such as Texaco and Yokohama.

Why they didn't just release them as a pack instead of what was it, 2 USD per livery? Ridiculous. Especially for a game that barely anyone had played when they released them.

Most recent COD DLC's - ever since they've realised people will pay almost anything to get extra content and 'stay up to date' their prices have gone through the roof, I remember being very annoyed at the World at War DLC costing £8 a piece but for the more recent games its shot up to £12/13 which is ridiculous for what is a relatively small proportion on the game.

Ironically, $20 for ten paints is not that bad in really life. In fact, that's REALLY good.

I also think that Forza Horizon's $50 Season Pack is rather stupid. If you do the math, you're really only saving $10-$15 dollars. I still have no idea why they charge so much for the arcade Forza's season pass. It just seems like Horizon's price and FM4's price are backwards.

Weren't there horns too? I want to say there were...

I'll agree, I balked at the idea of the Season Pass for Horizon being nearly the price of the game here, and a fair bit more than the FM4 SP. Then again, FM4's didn't include the add-on pack that was Porsche, only the monthly packs - I imagine Horizon's would've been the same price had it not automatically included the Rally Pack's price.

Mind, that still would've made it worse value than FM4's...

Time saver pack from NFS Hot Pursuit 2011. I downloaded it with the PS+ bundle and it completely ruined the game for me.👎

Not the worst ever but I was very disappointed with Harley Quinn's revenge dlc in Batman Arkham City. All it was was smack up some ordinary thugs in the steelmill. And that's it. 👎
