Hey c:,

I finally decided to build myself a Desktop after i played a-lot of RFactor on my Potato Computer and i fell in love. Yes ill get Assetto Corsa and P:Cars, GTA IV for mods etc.

\Now what i have so far in hardware is this. This excludes Graphics Card & Power Supply. I already have a 650W Power Supply. Im looking at a GTX 770 or GTX 780. Right now its sitting at 878$ Any Recommendation? Do you guys think this is a good Gaming Desktop Build for the money?

Thanks Guys 👍

Well, if you're just going for a gaming build, then you probably can get away with a 4670k and save a couple of bucks. GPU wise you should be good to go with a 2GB 770, 3GB 780 or a R9 290 with an aftermarket cooler!

But other than that, the build looks really solid. You may want to get a 240mm AIO, but you should be good with the Seidon as well. For recommendation for a 240mm AIO, I'd consider the H100i, H105, Seidon 240M, Swiftech H220 (if you can find it) or a Thermaltake Water Extreme.

And in such a budget I think that a SSD is a must, or at least will be really the part that'll give you the highest performance gain! You could get something like a Samsung 840 EVO, Kingston V300 or something from SanDisk :)

Thanks Mate 👍 Also ill be doing a tad of Sony Vegas Pro for my Youtube Channel + Montages. Will look into the AIO. I was looking at SSD's and there still quite expensive :/. Like 200, 300$.

Well, if you're doing editing, then the 4770k will definitely be the better option.
SSD's aren't so expensive as they used to be. Since you're still using a mechanical HDD as your mass storage drive, you'll only need a 120GB SSD for your OS, couple of programs and your games and that'll be plentyful.

Kingston V300: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721107
Samsung 840 EVO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W01AZ5378
SanDisk Extreme II: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171751

So you see that SSD's are getting really cheap these days and you can grab 250GB SSD's for as little as 150$ nowadays.

For GPU, I think you'll be fine with the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC.

CPU looks good.

The bucks you save of with the R9 vs the nVidia cards can be used for an SSD.

The other parts look good. 👍

I wouldn't change the RAM, mate. I'd never go below 1600MHz and since the prices have come down, I'd even go for something like a 1866MHz, but no 1333MHz. Especially your editing programs benefit from a little faster RAM.

Any PSU recommendation? The one my dad has is 750W but its KenTek. Which is cheap utter crap.

Should i go Non-Modualer? Modualer? Half-Modualer?

You can easily go with a 600W power supply. I'm using a Corsair CX600 and it's powering a GTX780. So no need for 750W unless you are going for multiple GPU's.

Personally I'd throw in the extra coin for an nVidia card. The R9 290 is a great card, but in terms of drivers and people who had to RMA it, it seems a wildly random card at best.

A GTX770 would probably be enough, but assuming you will be gaming at 1080p, a GTX780 will guarantee you you can max anything at that resolution.

Depending on how much editing and CPU intensive stuff you plan to be doing you might want to swap out the i7 for an i5 4670k. Other thing is if you don't plan to overclock you can probably skip the aftermarket CPU cooler, I've used a 3570k with the stock cooler and had no issues with temps in any gaming I've done. Granted, then the question becomes why buy an unlocked CPU if you aren't overclocking, but my plan is that I'll overclock once I need to for performance reasons because that CPU won't be your gaming bottleneck for a long while.

Drop the cooler and switch to the 4670k and you'd be able to afford an 120GB SSD just fine. Don't underestimate how good the SSD's are as your OS drive. It's the single most noticeable upgrade you can make to a PC and it makes everything you do so much faster an snappier. Restarting my PC from desktop to desktop takes under 15 seconds, and any games installed on my SSD basically have no loading times.

Thinking about it "silly me", I will over-clock my CPU. Because it is Unlocked as you mentioned. I know there's many tutorials on the Internet to Overclock, Settings of Overclock etc. From Overclocking the Graphic Card as the CPU is there a noticeable FPS Gain from OEM Clock Speed?

SSD wise. 120GB? Would that be enough? Its around 100$ or so. I have a handful of software. Plus games :\? My RFactor folder goes from 20-40GB's and i wont be only playing RFactor.

Couldnt i go for a SSHD?

FYI the I5 4670k is also unlocked. Like I said, comes down to how much rendering you'll be doing, but in most cases the i7's are overkill for gaming.

Regarding an SSHD, you'd be better off with a 120GB SSD and a regular HDD for storage. Your OS, applications, and some of your games (rFactor) could go on the SSD and the rest on the HDD. The SSHD will only be able to use the flash memory for your cache and things like that, it isn't going to provide the same kinds of speeds an SSD with your OS on it will.

Oh. So. 120GB SSD 89.99 + HDD 1TB is around 40-60$ depending where i get it 👍

Yeah, a 120GB SSD is more than sufficient for most of your application etc, like I said.
You may want to change the PSU though. The CX unit is okay, but do have a quite high failure rate, mostly because of the fan. And I would never get a PSU without cable management, it cleans up things sooo much.

Something like EVGA SuperNOVA are very good units:

The V - Series from Cooler Master are amongst the best in the 80+ Gold rating, insanely high quality capasitors and quiet!

Poop :(. I bought everything last night. I guess if the PSU dies. Then ill get one of those two you recommend.

I went with the SSD 120GB and 1TB HDD.

Yeah, again, the PSU isn't bad at all. Just the chances that it'll fail are higher than normal, that doesn't mean though, that it'll die. The CX430M in my dad's PC still works like a charm.

Everything has been installed properly. I get power to my front light switch except. When i click turn on. Nothing happens.. No Fans Turning etc nothing. Might of did something wrong? the PSU is silent to.

Didnt plug in the Powerswitch correctly

Corsair 500R master race \o/

Mine's black :D

I plugged in the start button in where the PLED + and - goes in  I was wondering why it wasn't starting

Corsair 500R <3

Its very quiet. More quiet then my PS3 Dinosaur..

What OS are you getting? I didn't expect to like Windows 8.1 (I'm used to 7) but I actually really like it.

Windows 7. I completly hate Win8. The apps thingy is just dumb. Fits better for tablets. I find it more restrictive then Windows 7. Just to much. Just pointless for Desktop|Laptop just no. Windows 7<3

In the BIOS my CPU was at 38*C my Motherboard was at 27*C :]
