I just upgraded from 1.05. The first thing I noticed in a race was the lack of smoke. I dont know if its just my imagination but I am 99.999% sure the smoke was thicker and richer in 1.05.

I was very very pleased with how well PD had done the smoke, in fact I just wish it lingered for longer in 1.05 and it would have been perfect.

Now in 1.06 it looks like the puffs of smoke In Gran turismo 1 and 2.

Oh and the crazy amount of aliasing that shows up when smoke goes around your car is still present, so why the reduction in smoke effects? 👎

Just give it time. Everyone freaked out and some left even left the game but its substantially been improved since release. Kaz even made a statement that the game has a long way to go... but people won't listen... go figure.

Anyway, if what you say is true about reduced tire smoke, perhaps its their way of putting a bandaid on the issue until they can actually work all of the kinks out. Less smoke means that it won't be as visible or thick, therefore it will tone down the ugliness that comes with smoke rolling up around the cars. Does that make sense?

Every time theres a new feature or change, Some people will praise it and others complain about it.

The new smoke allows for better pictures and object interaction.

Better frame rate maybe?

The frame rate was still great even in 1.05! I was even thinking make the smoke linger for longer as it did not seem to affect the fps at all.

I would gladly take an fps hit for some more immersive smoke and vissuals. Its not an FPS game anyway, and the game runs a long way away from what I would consider unacceptable.

As for reducing aliasing being the cause, its still there.

for drift photos smoke is a lot more realistic (in 1.05) and it gives you just that bit of satisfaction when you look back and see a looooong trail of smoke all the way around the corner, Tsukubas last corner's great for this

Is there less smoke?

If so good, but there's still too much!

Or should I say "Too much is made too easily".

I mean, you could have a 4wd car sliding slightly sideways, with the throttle closed, for a couple of seconds and have thick clouds of smoke pouring off all 4 tyres.

I like the large amounts that are possible, but it just isn't realistic at all to have such large amounts of thick white smoke generated so easily, without even trying. Totally ruins the look of a race replay sometimes, too.

People still couldn't follow me while drifting last night due to not being able to see sonI think there's still plenty of smoke :D

Be sweet for it to linger and glenty clear from the track alright though rather than just dissappear when you make more.

yea it must not be that major if I havent even noticed it.

Its very major!

Before you could make thick plumes of smoke that almost engulfed your car, now it looks like little basketball sized popcorn clouds like in gt1 and 2

And yes I have checked tyres.

Ive noticed it a bit too but barely at all. I dont even think they changed it I think they just improved the resolution of the smoke texture like they seemed to have with a lot of others to cause it to be less blocky and ugly. I still get insane amounts of smoke.

Looks the same to me, especially in NASCAR races online.
