Things That Make You Go "Cool"

During one of the license test's, the one where you are the 512bb @ Rome, I was amazed at how the car just seemed to fly across the track ...catching up to 1st place.

Same with the one where you are the Z4 M coupe, watching the replay and seeing the car slide across each turn and catching up to 1st place ...just too cool!!

Might sound daft, but the "been there" moments. So driving around Cote D'Azure and being able to say "I've stood on the apex of that corner", "I've walked through that tunnel", I sat in a bar just next to that straight" etc. And going down the Mulsane straight at la Sarthe and thinking "I've driven down this road in real life!" (though, obviously, there were a couple of roundabouts on it when I drove down it)

After I noticed that the driving line gets faster dry than the rest of the track after it stopped raining. To see objects getting reflected inside the raindrops on the windshields of the cars. Things like that, there are tons of them, small details but they made my jaw drop.

There's a few for me:

When I first raced against an X1 online. It was a SSR7 in the snow (SNOW!). It made the Veyron look like it was standing still @200mph.

When I did the Ferrari races and was behind an Enzo at Monza. I had never noticed that it had an active spoiler at the back and was mesmerized every time I was behind it.

The first time I experienced damage online. I was driving Cape Ring and forgot about a blind 3rd gear turn on the periphery, slid off the track and bashed the barrier. The Force feedback then proceded to shake every unsecured object from my rig as I limped around for the rest of the lap and laughed at just how unforgiving it was.

First post! :)

Mine is driving the Lambo Countach around Rome for the classic sports cars challenge (I think it was in Professional or Amateur series.)

That thing is drifting HEAVEN!

Yeah, I paused a replay of racing on the nurburgring in the rain and started walking around and noticed that every individual rain droplet was frozen in the air and you could walk around and see them stay in place.

Driving the 24 hr Ring then noticing there were no clouds in the sky

Never seen that in a racing game or game period

Cool-

Driving past the rubber you laid down on the start line even after five laps seeing it still there.

Not so cool-

Seeing the skid marks you left as you went off at the first bend after trying to out-brake the AI because you forgot to put some stickier rubber on your tuned Supra. LOL!

Who said we don't need skid marks on GT5? I think it looks cool as hell seeing it has stayed there lap after lap.

Being able to hit a wall at high speed and not suffer damage is cool.

I thought it only stays there for 3 laps only?? i might have to check it again...

Ditto that, driving the Nordschleife and seeing the exact tree I was standing under. The details are very nice

Starting a race with my Bob driver, making sure he's 1st. Then I head to the bathroom for number 2. Came back to find him winning the race. Bob's not that bad lol!

The Seb Loeb challenge at Chamonix - all going well until the wheel went all light and floaty. That'll be the ice then - very clever PD...

When I first put semi race exhaust on my '10 Camaro, and took it through the tunnel at Grand Valley, the sound sent chills down my spine...

The fact that I've put about 25hrs already and only just now raced around the Deep Forest Raceway. My good, I love this track, it's like a rollercoaster :)

Taking a fully tuned 430 Scuderia into the Ferrari event. I was using a DFP wheel, just tapping the paddles and hearing the car scream behind me was like an orgasm for my senses.

My girlfriend still makes fun of me for the huge smile I had driving that car for the first time.

Buying a Shelby Cobra at A-Spec Level 13 and not progressing much ever since … just doing lap after lap at the Nordschleife.

:D

Only mods on it so far: A cheap 5-speed gearbox (so you're not bouncing off the revlimiter all te time) and some shiny new rims. I have only three vehicles in my garage: The FT-86 Concept, the Kart and the Shelby Cobra. I wonder when I'll want to buy another car?

There have been a couple:

- Looking out the back of the car flying down the mulsane straight, and seeing the road signs facing you

- Doing the Lambo race, and watching the replay as my front bumper is hanging on by one side only, and its moving around when i brake and accelerate.
I really was waiting for it to fall off!

- Seeing active spoilers. 1st noticed them on the veyron. Simply unbelievable, and definately made me go 'WOW'

I think it is all the little details that make this game. so worth the wait :)

Most of my wow moments have been at the Nordschliefe.

Gunning down towards Berkwerk, at 6am, with mist in the distance, and a deathly silence is a real wow moment. As is spotting the red sun, cresting the hills in the distance, as you round Aremberg, heading towards 'foxhole'. Likewise, racing the extended GP circuit for the first time, and spotting all the campsites that light up the track, as you race around the ring is something that always makes me go wow. :)

To be honest, the whole game is wow for me. I might be alone in thinking this, but GT5 is sublime! Sure its got some things missing, but in this day and age a game is rarely ever complete at launch, but I'm sure that KY has many more wow moments in the pipeline! 👍

The first time I saw the fireworks in the grand tour event. I barely made it around the track as I kept looking off at the fireworks in the distance. Pretty cool on SS7 as well.

My first time behind the wheel of the X1, actually that wasn't a cool moment it was more of an OMG moment :)

I really like lot sof things about this game. I just wish we could get credits and xp online, save our tunes and post times in our tuned cars to leaderboards.

I also wish they would have kept the A-Spec point system from GT4. I loved that setup.

I know no one here has ever slid off the track, but I do a lot. If you rev your engine and spin your wheels they sink in to the sand. They don't leave holes or anything but in the replay you can distinctly see it dig in. Consider me wowed.

Also, cockpit view in a bunch of cars, but I first noticed it in a Ferrari F430, the stitches on the wheel are modeled. The stitches. Each individual one protrudes just a bit, and if the light is just right they all cast shadows. That was probably the first time I really said "Wow".

for me it'd have to be on the supercar festival on bspec, my bob was side by side with a mclaren f1 and he won by only .021 sec, it was pretty intense stuff. btw i was using a nascar with sports soft tires

So far the best experience for me has been goldening a rally event, I was 2nd by a couple of seconds until the fourth Special Stage, then I won by 0,037 seconds, when I saw the ranking my face turned in a big smile!
I also enjoy much driving on the Nordschleife in the cockpit view of every car I get my hands on, I spent the last months before gt5 came out on gt4, driving every car I owned on the Ring indeed :)
