Hey All

Just wondering what parts of the game made you go "cool" or just "wow"?

Mine was during an Expert Race. I just clipped a car that was in front of me (due to the AI diving infront of me and nudging me to the side), and the rear bumper of the car i nudged was damaged and hanging off. For the whole of the race it was cool to see it hanging and dragging around on the track still attached to one side. 👍

Obviously as i noticed it for the whole race i was behind him  Its a shame that it didnt seem to affect the other car, but it was cool to see nonetheless. :)

Im at level 18 if that matters.

Watching my B-Spec driver fishtail/drift almost the entire way around Laguna Seca in my Shelby Cobra. He was soooooo close to losing it on nearly every turn, but held on each time.

I'm still cursing the damn fast Miuras, though. Grrr.

Completing 1 lap on the Ring for the first time in the AMG Driving Academy Gullwing Merc. G25 wheel, cockpit view, what a feeling I got inside, simply awesome.

Watching the LFA's instrumental cluster in cockpit cam, absolutely beautiful.

I bought a McLaren F1 yesterday and raced it using cockpit view - that was so cool! All cars should have the driver in the center of the cockpit. It just looks awesome.

I also witnessed a 5 car pile up on the London course and it didnt even involve me.

The game has some quirks, but it sure does have some great moments, and im sure it will continue to do so.

I was watching my B-spec driver, F.Hudson, compete in the compact cup in my V6 Clio. As he overtook a car, the opponent seemed to panic, fishtailed, and span off into the grass. It was pretty cool.

He's disappointing me right now though, losing!

I've had several cool moments so far. One that happened Sunday afternoon occurred at Daytona Superspeedway with several members from here participating in an organized NASCAR event. Running down the back strectch in a pack of 6 or 8 cars jockeying for position and bump drafting each other was a really really cool moment.

Photo mode in general, some pics that turns out from it looks unbelievable to be a game...

And the LFA cluster is a thing to behold...I am thinking about buying that in game just for that...

When doing my first Snow course in the rally section of the Special Events...

I came up over a hill and saw the snow covered scenery, with the reflection of the sun gleaming off of the snow... just beautiful.

Its the first time ive saw that LFA cluster.

Wow, i may need to get that at some point. Do you happen to know how much the car is?.

the night racing is just wow awesome i wish they had more full night racing at more tracks, all the originals please :)

Yeah I don't get why the un-chicaned La Sarthe tracks didn't get the weather and time change treatment.

Definitely the quality of the photo mode. Still hard to tell that some of the pictures are from a game!!

Someone online at SSR7 in a veyron was coming at me in the tunnel, and anyways he caught me up on the road and was driving beside me and turned sideways to try and ramp me but I slammed the breaks on and he ended up plowing into the wall without hitting me and I took off into the distance , that made me think wow he must hate me so much 👍

Really? The photomode is one of my biggest letdowns. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely awesome but I'm completely baffled by the fact that the same crappy blocky smoke we see in the game is ALSO in photo mode. Since framerate isn't really an issue while rendering a photo it's totally beyond me why they're using the same rendering style as in-game for this. It totally ruins otherwise great shots.

Racing the Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint GTA around Monaco using the H shifter. Now, that is proper 60s cool B-)

Alpha channels marco, Those stay like that...

One off my biggest moments in the very beginning was a license test, the first one were tc is on off, Top gear tst 1000 m brake i think.

throttling that Aston on go and see big pile off smoke, tyre marks and a car that is twitching it ass to keep a straight line, beautifull!!!

Opening my first lobby online on Nordschleife as a free runner, set it 18.00 and time X4, practice into the night, gave me goosebumps, then do it in the morning and race through the mist into the sun almost made me faint...

keeps on delivering new feelings.

Since the update last night, coming onto a straight online in race when alot of people infront of you crashed and go to the pit! Awesome seeing them all repair and hurry out of there and you blast by...

Getting better and better...👍

it's a while ago, but i was driving my fully tuned Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro ‘09 on the nurburgring nordschleife. I was on 3th around 1 minute in the race, when on a straight there track was going up then down so my Audi launched into the air, and when I landed again I lost control and the same did the first car as it hit the grass. It was just so beautiful and realistic!

The blocky borders have nothing to do with alpha channels. I'm sure they have a rendering method that shows nice smoke but didn't make it into the game because it killed the framerate. They can however still use better rendering in the photo mode.

The alpha masking used to apply the transparency of the (multiple layers of) smoke is of a lower resolution than the pixel area the smoke takes up (itself probably also low-res). Increasing that resolution requires more memory, which we're short on - but the mask might be needed for several passes / methods / processes in one frame. This can be averted by loading and disposing of stuff dynamically for photomode, but that increases the render time and would require a separate pipeline than is used for real-time playback. That's essentially like making two games in one, technically - one real time, and one that is essentially an off-line renderer, as used in films etc. It's do-able, but it is a lot of effort to make it dynamically switch pipelines as required in replays.

My cool moments have been many, but it has to be the dynamic weather that impresses most. I spent an entire evening racing online in My Lounge, and I started a race on the Nürburgring 24 hour layout in Esprits. We started at dusk, in clear weather. Within three or four minutes, it was dark. Then two minutes later, it began to rain. That constant evolution of the circuit, from the cooling of the track after the sun had gone down, to the gradual wetting and further cooling due to the rain, really made for a lively and exciting battle, where it was more about who could better stay in control and adapt to the conditions than simply put in blinding speeds.

Misty sunrises do look good, too. I think that it's perfectly possible to apply the weather effects to other tracks. It's especially odd that it doesn't seem that Eiger reverse can have rain, so it's probably due to texture work - namely the sky, which is also highly dynamic. The range of lighting conditions that it produces is great for photomode, and dawn light feels different to dusk lighting, as it should. I expect these things may come in a future update.

Ive had alot of "cool" moments, but the one I can remember as of now is seeing the RM for the 69 Camaro. Now that was a moment that lasted a good 10mins of just looking at the car and then I drove it and did it again. LMAO

+1

I was not happy with several aspects of the game but this saved it for me. I nearly cried :)

my cool moment was hitting my first wall while driving golf v, with my g27. I pressed the clutch pedal, shifted to reverse and hit the gas and the car stalled. turns out; it would only move when i eased off the clutch while at the same time easing on the gas
