Thinking about trading my WRX in... but on what?

I would counter the Si sedan with the Cobalt SS, but I forgot that you can't get the S/C engine in the four-door. Crap.

Have you ever looked into a Pontiac G5?

Yes, I know its just a rebadged Cobalt Coupe, but I like the looks overall. The G5 GT comes with a fair-bit of kit to start, and the fuel-mileage isn't half-bad. Actually, I'd rate the interior of the G5 better than the Cobalt, it seems a bit more clean and simple, but I know that people are going to scream about the quality...

Side note: I'm glad to hear that the Lancer test went well. I haven't seen many around here yet, but they still sound like great cars...

Ehhh if you were going to look into a small GM car I would wait till the Astra is released here in a couple months. The Cobalts aren't bad but I don't think I've ever sat in a car and instantly been bored but what I saw on the inside, and the seats (at least in the one I drove) where spine breaking uncomfortable and offered zero lat support. I wasn't expecting much but good lord I was expecting more then I got.

The G5, I can't imagine they are any different, but I haven't been in one (let alone really seen one) to say any other way.

The only crappy car on that platform is the Ion...stay clear of that.

Yeah, the Astra would be the only GM I'd be likely to look at. (Or domestic overall, for that fact.)

Looks like the Lancer is out of the question. It's as expensive to insure as my WRX!

Si is a decent bit cheaper.

I really am liking that Camry SE for some reason...

If you buy new - good on ya - it does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.

If you buy used - only get a 2004-2006 - and ONLY get a V6 model. The 230hp 3.3-liter V6 came out in '04 despite the fact that the Camry SE V6 came out all the way back in '02 - the engine is the sole difference and you want the one with the more powerful engine. A 4-cylinder was offered for the entire life of the vehicle (02-06) and is trashy, of course.

If we're going to go that old, he may as well just get an Accord. The old Camry was a load of boring, vanilla crap, and you're lucky to get out of that car without falling asleep at the wheel... Even if it is an 'SE.'

Plus, the Maximas of the same era were oodles of times better both in looks, performance, and civility. At the very least, they look exciting...

Camry SE is sportier than that age accord. Maxima was good, but it's a bit on the expensive side. I'd rather an Altima.

But the Camry is the most attractive:

Go for the VW Rabbit. I took a trip to a dealer and they are quite nice. the have a 5 speed trans and i think an auto with the tiptronic sifter.

Uh, the 2006 Accord EX V6 (Manual) would have easily outdone the 2006 Camry SE V6. Compared to the Honda, the Toyota will come up short (by more than a second in some cases) in acceleration tests, and when it comes to handling, thats Honda's game as well. Plus, I believe the Toyota even clocked-in at a higher price too.

At least where I stand, I'd say the Accord was leagues ahead of the Camry back in '06 in terms of performance, value, and looks...

Quite frankly, the only car(s) that really out-class it when it comes to the idea of a sporty sedan, at least in my book, is the VW GLI and Acura TSX.

...On the Maxima, it can go either way. I prefer the models that preceded the 2004 make-over, which really turned the car into an oversized and generally pointless cousin to the Altima.

But, as someone who had an '03 Altima for three years (well, my Step Mother had one), they aren't that great. I still yell at her for not getting an Accord. But she is quite stupid, and whats funny is that even my Dad knows it. Particularly when she sold her Altima for an Envoy because it felt 'more safe,' and it 'was what she wanted.'

An '06 Accord V6 manual in his price range? That's not an easy charge.

And you're really going to call the Acura TSX sporty in the same league as the Accord and Camry? Similar handling and literally zero engine power, yet high prices. No thanks!

Yes, the TSX is indeed slower (and certainly overpriced as well), but I like them. Its not always about speed with me, as the drive in itself is an important part of the equation. I generally would prefer to have a responsive, fun-to-drive car before the big engines are added. And although the TSX moves about with 'only' 200 BHP, it works out alright. Granted of course that I would rather have the comparative GLI in most circumstances, the TSX is by no means left out of the equation.

...There is a red one I see at school every day, and my God it is beautiful. The only thing I'd ever want to change on them would be those God-awful Acura badges. Yes, I would swap them out for Honda ones just to be a weirdo...

The drive is important, but when you pay that much you might as well get some acceleration out of the equation. My Tribute is competitive if not quicker to 60mph.

I'd agree with you, but they're hard to find in the US for a decent price. Used 2004 models are still going for about the same amount they were brand-new, pretty much a testament to how crazy VW folks are here in the US.

...The MKV R32 should be showing up at dealerships soon, but with only 5000 headed to the US this year, yet again it will be hard to find one, let alone one near the MSRP...
