Whats up guys? Its been fun debating what Ford is doing right and wrong, what exactly a "muscle car" is, and what JCE3000GT or M5Power should buy next, but how about a return to our old favorite franchise in debate? The "Best Car" series!

I was working earlier today, obviously at work, and while extremely bored I thought maybe we should go through a few of the different car classes and attempt to figure out what the best car would be. You know, sub-compact, compact, mid-size, etc.

Problem is, with so many segment-busters on-sale today, it would be hard with those gray models that could be either. So then I began to think about price, and immediately I shot that idea down given the international flare of the website, and the conversions between the American Dollar, British Pound, and European, well, Euro makes things a bit complicated. Even more so, bring in the Australian Dollar, and even that of Canada, and we're on the highway to hell!

So, I'm looking for suggestions here. I think it would be interesting to do some debate here, and it certainly would bring in some models from the various corners of the world. My guess is that size distinctions are going to win-out here, but we are going to need to find a decisive way to describe the different models.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I would hope to maybe get something going by Wednesday, before 11PM EST, but I would like to get most people to agree on the rules so we don't get the whole "this and that" issue we had from before.

Thanks,

Brad

Well my idea, which i posted before when the 'engine' thread came out, is to simply turn the 'Best Car' idea on it's head and vote for 'Worst Car' from each country. With the added clause that to have your car considered for nomination you have to give a valid reason - rather than just that you don't like it?

Fall? Thats Autumn right? and when is that in the US?

How about sorting the cars into capacity classes? ie <2000cc, 2001cc-2499cc etc

Many cars have engine options that would place the same car into several categories.

I think we should just go with the car class, like mid-size, large SUV etc. I'm sure we are capable enough of placing the so-called grey cars into the right categories without too many unpleasanteries.

I say we do it by who is buying the vehicle, a la...

- Best Soccer Mom Vehicle
- Best Midlife Crisis Vehicle
- Best College Student Vehicle
- Best NASCAR Fan Vehicle
- etc.

Yes, of course there would be overlap but it would be more interesting than the same comparison tests we see in magazines all the time...

Never, if you live in Florida or Hawaii.

Can we just end the thread by saying Z06, and be done with it; or is there not enough tedium on this subject by now?

That's actually a good idea.

Like, Best first car for a teenager. Best Bachelor car :sly: Best car to LOOK like you spent a lot of money. :dopey:

"Best car that goes like stink, and looks like poo"

Lots of options for all this.

"Best of the pop up lights. Risque flashers!!!"

I'll stop before it gets worse. Liking the idea though.

Well I was thinking about going by classes only, not getting them all together and debating. It would be a little odd having cars like the Versa, Fusion, S-class, and Z06 knocking boots.

...I do like the idea of finding the best car for particular groupings...

Maybe best...

- College/High School Car (affordable rides)
- Kids Still Equal Fun (best family sedan, fun wanted)
- Transport With More Sport! (MPV, Minivans, and Wagons)
- Down on the Farm (trucks and SUVs for those who actually use them)

...etc...

Sounds good, similar to what I'd place as categories, especially the High School Buyers, (Many competitive hatchbacks spring to mind).

👍

We should have impractical categories like that, the discussion will be much more fun.

I mean if it is just regular categories we all know what is going to happen, we have already discussed that stuff a bunch here.
