should i install win 98 or win me?
for DOS games and other stuff...
some of the dos games dont really run well with winME, but then again win98 is older..
oh yea i have xP and plenty of room for another os
SO what'll is be?

I had a lot of problems with Win98 on the laptop, but since I installed Nortons Utilities it's been much better.

With Windows ME and 2000, there are websites around that will give you a guide on what games will and won't run in that environment, or what you need to do to get some games running. I've got TOCA2 running under Windows 2000 after a couple of little changes to the .ini file.

Windows 98Se or second edition would be the best choice you can make with dealing with DOS games. DO NOT install windows me. It will cause you more of a headache then anything you can put on that computer. Windows 2000 professional would also be another good choice. It has a DOS emulator that it can run. Take this from someone that worked tech support for 3 years before going into sales. DOS games are a surprise to even work with Windows me. Microshaft took out any DOS things they could in this OS.

I just reformatted my pc ages ago and reinstalled Windows 98 SE it works fine apart from the fact I screwed up our CD-RW (I Think it Was Me) So install Windows 98 if you have a clean system - otehr wise you will see a few blue screens!

hey thanks for the advice guys i gonna get win98 from a frend on monday (tomoro),
yea i have about 20 gigs of extra back up space but i only plan on using like 3 of it...

you're gonna have to use a third party partition program to do that. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT use Fdisk for doing a partition. that with wipe out everything on the computer.

You can set XP to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode anyway. Install your games, then right click on the game executable (the file that starts the game up) and click proprties. Click on the Compatibiliy tab and check the Run this program in compatibility mode for: button. Select Windows 98 and bam. Your games will run as if they were running on Win 98.

Windows 98 owns. I run it, and it runs perfect aside from a few faults from it being so old. I get a few blue screens somtimes, usually only occuring during a shut down. You shouldnt see any blue screens while actually using the computer if you know what your doing. If you get blue screens, its not the computers fault, its yours. ;)

Atleast, thats my emphasis on things...
