Colin Giltrap who owns a chain of car yards is the only NZ buyer thus far. There are two heading to Australia so they must be fine/legal there.
The car has a 5.4 litre supercharged V8 engine producing 450kw (600bhp). Above 95kmh (59mph) it deploys a rear spoiler at a 10deg angle, this also acts as an air brake by shifting forward to a maximum of 65degs.
The SLR uses a stiff carbon-fibre monocoque chassis to which carbon-fibre body panels and the mechanicals are attached. This is the same Mercedes-Benz and McClearen developed their own carbon-fibre technology, rather than adopt the technology used by formula one.
Weight distrabution is near 50/50. The doors are gull wing but instead of lift upwards they rotate on a hinge in front of the outside wing mirrors.
