This Site Is Weird

OK Tell Me if Im wrong but there are some ishues with the Site that should be resolved (There are a few threads that have to do with what IM talking about but they are all closed, whuts up with that?

First off we are told sternly not to ask the same questins twice or repost, BUT THE SEARCH ENGINE DOESNT WORK AT ALL IT NEVER FINDS A MATCH TO ANYTHING so DUHHHHHHH thee will be repost about the same thing searching DOES NOTHING, Im sure someone would of mentioned it BUT THE THREAD CONCERNING THIS IS CLOSED SO NO ONE CAN TELL ANYBODY.

AND there are no new General discussion threads allowed because of repost IF YOU FIX THE SEARCH THERE WILL BE ALOT LESS REPOST (people do a serch find nothing, then make a post, IF YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE GOING TO FLIP THROUGH EVERY PAGE UNTILL WE MANUALLY FIND THE QUESTION AND ANSWER THATS CRAZY!! & WILL NEVER HAPPEN, THATS WHY THER ARE SEARCH ENGINS!!!!)

Dont get me wrong I love the site, but the ligistics and the moderators are confusing.

There merge Post and close good post to only leave silly BS open.

Im only making this thread because There NO ability to add into the post telling us to search before posting (but the search engine is broke) If your not fully aware that WE CANT SEARCH This will inform you, this is not a rant.

are you clickin the search window at the top of the post? cos that only searches the current post....to search the whole forum click the search next to my gtplanet nearer the top of the page

You can also search for a word and it will give you the thread it is in OR list the actual posts which have your keyword (helpful when the thread has 75 pages of posts!! lol)

It sounds like it.... You are shouting for most of it, or is your caps lock key faulty?

Why is this in the prologue forum? Did you miss the site questions and comments forum?

The Search function works perfectly. The key is knowing HOW to search.

Don't search for words with three letters or less.
Pick a forum or group of subfora to search.
Click on "Show results as post" if you're after a specific post, or "as thread" if you're after a specific thread.

If YOU can't search, that's YOUR problem, not the moderators, or the "ligistics" or the search function.

That's the only real failing of the Search engine, and it's a function of reducing server load by several orders of magnitude. If you'll note, the staff will never criticize anybody for not being able to find "Pro FF" or something like that, because we're aware of that limitation.

Thanks for confirming what we already knew . Yep, we be the wierdest of the crop, but then so aren't all the other forums that you'll find out there. Considering that, we're actually among the most normal on the internet.

To overcome this all you have to do is add a wildcard to the end of your search, eg. U2 would become U2*.

I seem to be having trouble finding posts containing BOTH my search words. Instead, I get all posts with either word.

Quotes will pick it up if the two words appear in succession. I'm not sure what would work to find both words not in succession, however.

I think typing an all-caps AND would do it. I know it did for vB 2 (no reason it shouldn't for vB 3 ).

Do you think somebody could do a how to search FAQ, i mean then there will be hardly any valid excuses, and im sure i would learn a few things as well from it.

Skewing briefly back onto the topic, I suspect that those who cannot tailor their searching style to the search engine here are also those who cannot find anything with Google either.

It isn't hard - enter words more than three letters long and point it at specific forums. The more words, the more likely you are to receive a dead-on match, but with fewer threads.

Sorry, Famine's just too good. But really why are we dragging this thread further when it was pointless anyway. I'm suprised a moderator hasn't closed or deleted it yet.
