That's the problem online.It is not setup to act like in real life.There is only a few that I allow to bump draft with me.And I always think twice before I will do it to someone else.If you feel fine with it and we are in a race together you can ingame pm me and let me know.:)

In Nascar, some of the cars are so up close to the car in front it's like their welded together. but I suppose on an oval track your going to get that kind of thing happening.
 
I race under the name Defm325i and I'm pretty new to the online portion of gt5. So far I have been extremely disapointed with most of the people I've been racing with. I really wonder most races if the players are all about 10 years old. I'm a big BMW fan so I like to race the M3 alot and people don't seem to like seeing it in front of them. I get punted off the track by faster and lighter cars that can't keep up with me in almost every race i use it in. This gets to be infuriating after a while and tends to bring out the worst in my driving and ends up with me just quitting and doing something else. I really hope that private races are in our future because these idiots are ruining it for me at the moment. I really wish I could get into races with you GTP members more often, the races you guys write about are the ones I'm looking for.

Well Bump Drafting seems a little...unorthadox, I have never seen a real life Race where by Drivers have employed these tactics. I believe in racing strictly to rules of a Real Life Race. Thats what GT is al about, simulating rel life Racing. But if any of you guys wish to use these tactics then thats cool with me, but I would prefer to take second place then race unrealistically. ;)

It's a NASCAR thing.:)Have also seen it in karting.The odd time in ALMS.
 
I've seen it a lot in the WTCC race at Brands Hatch this weekend .
But yeah usually it's a NASCAR-thing , however it isn't 'unrealistic'.

Bump drafting is incredibly common in virtually all forms of production-based closed-wheel racing. It's not a "NASCAR thing" at all. Probably the only format where they don't bump draft are the various formula cars, because it's too unsafe with open wheels, even if the cars themselves could structurally tolerate it (which they can't).

I've seen people bump draft in races from Showroom Stock club racing through Touring Cars to (of course) NASCAR.

I was in a race tonight and by accident I came down on a driver that I didn't know was there. I sent him a apology in game and thought you would like to know about the GTP reputation online. His psn is : vrrm, from Au and not a member here. He said :

I believe when he said "appreciate your ethics " I think that he ment all of the GTP drivers.

I hate it when you can't see the car beside you, I wish they'd widen the rear view mirror so you could see them. I noticed a real one about 2 feet long in a NASCAR car. Or, some on screen indicator that lights up when someone is in your blind spot on left and right sides of the screen that acts as a spotter.

I've received a couple PM compliments, but I also got a nasty message once. I totally just screwed up, but the guy thought I was a basher and he let me have it! After I wrote a lengthy apology and explained, he turned positive and thanked me for taking the time to respond.

...my 2 cents...Bump drafting is a legitimate racing technique when done properly. It benefits both cars, and should never cause the lead car to lose control. Only a light tap after a slow approach, never a slam, and only on long straights, never in or near a corner. In effect you are saying to the driver in front of you "lets team up". I wish more drivers would bump draft me! But I can respect it if someone else prefers not to be bump drafted, in which case they should shift and break the draft, which tells me they don't want to.
 
Wow ok cool, NASCAR and Kart racing, well if it works for them cool. Ahh...just curious how much of a bump do they really get, cause I thought to much would do damage to the front Bar of the trailing car on most of the Race series I have watched, that would affect Aero if to much of a bump. But if theres quite a few series that use this tactic in Racing then I suppose its totally Real then.;)
 
Good to hear. Makes me even more proud to wear a GTP tag while racing.

I had a similar instance just last night. I accidentally hit a driver at turn 9. I immediately pulled over, and PM'd him with an apology. He said that he knew that the hit was unintentional, because of my GTP tag.

I guess GTP has quite a reputation for fair racing. Good stuff. 👍
 
If it's done properly, it's not a collision big enough to damage your car. :) Of course, since you don't have to worry about that in GT5, it can definitely be exploited in the game more than in real life, especially since GT5 also seems to overdo the drafting effect.

I really like to run the '76 Ferrari, and honestly I think people take pity on me. I get bumped way less driving that thing, even though I usuallly podium.

Sure, for instance, the drafting effect on Daytona Speedway was ridiculous, some guy half a mile behind you could catch your draft and be right on your tail in a matter of seconds. :crazy:

Yeah thats very true, the draftiong effect is SOMEWHAT to effective, its as though not only are you not pushing wind but you also have a 125KM/H tail wind lol:lol: I personally don't believe in swaying all over the road to much to prevent slip streamers, only when you are at a dissadvantage...For example look at the Supercar matchup at Fuji Begginers, you have GT-R's Racing with Ford GT's, if youv'e raced in the event you will see how much faster the Ford GT's are down the straight, they just BLAST past the GT-R's. Race it and you will see that teh matchup is not real even.:thumbsup:
I also hope that they take into consideration the Wind effect under brakes, compared to slipstream under brakes, I havent really noticed that much of a difference; compared to the effects of actual slipstreaming.:odd: Because when braking while your in a slipstream theres quit the difference. What do you guys think?
