Best car in the game so far. Handles exactly how I imagined it would, which is literal perfection.

I have no opinion on its inclusion in Gr.3. But I’m happy I can use it for the new Autopolis endurance race, which I intend on doing.

Just gotta get that penis clinic livery off of it and make it up like the orange road car.

Stupendously OP for Bathurst with that mid and top end speed, but PD seems to do this with most new gr3 cars to generate some interest before BoPing them down. Think GT LM and Supra, although the M3 missed out.
I guess if they've gone to the trouble of releasing a new car they don't want them on the sidelines because they're not competitive.
We'll see how it rates on some smaller and more technical tracks.

Absolutely beautiful to drive imo and I think the brakes are fine given how fast the thing is going.

My other thoughts about the car are I think Rowan Atkinson held the world record at one point for an single car insurance claim after his was totalled, cost around 1 million pounds to repair. That's on a car that only cost him about half a million to buy originally.

Jay Leno also has/had one and tells a ripping good story about the time he thought two Latino gang bangers were going to kill him and steal his.

If you're not already aware of how much straight line speed the new Macca has even in BoP trim, here's the difference in writing, using Conrod straight as the example.

At sector split:
Mazda Atenza: 257 km/h
Nissan GT-R: 263 km/h
McLaren F1: 269 km/h

At braking point:
Mazda Atenza: 274 km/h
Nissan GT-R: 281 km/h
McLaren F1: 289 km/h

Even with the slipstream, the Mazda still gets left behind by the McLaren. Despite the F1's poor cornering ability, this is unlikely to go unchecked by PD, as in Group 3 at least they tend to avoid straight line disparity. Expect a drop to 88% power before the next FIA season.

I dont see any reason for a nerf just because its straight line performance. It doesnt dominate the leaderboards so i doubt it will see any nerf for now.

Im interested to see how it performs at other tracks, but from Bathurst, the car can match other more handling based cars across the top, yet have 10kph more top end down the straights, I don't know how long that can continue. I don't mind the speed difference but it shouldn't be able to do what the likes of a toyota or ferrari can do across the top.

But it does dominate the leaderboards. Easy P1 in Asia and I suspect it's the same story over in Europe and America. I know Bathurst has two long straights, but with the mountain section it's not as much of a power track as you might think. The McLaren F1 easily has enough grip and stability to 'survive' the mountain section, and once it does it drives off into the distance.

Even if it wasn't the outright fastest car overall, the problem with straight line speed is that the car is impossible to overtake, short of driver error or a forceful lunge. They nerfed the Peugeot VGT and Ford GT for less. -1% power is a bare minimum at this point, I could easily see +1% weight being added too. I don't think they'll go further than that for now though, because I think PD want a viable Group 3 McLaren in the meta for this coming FIA championship.

This car is just insane on the mountain.
Even if you nail the corner behind it going up or down the straights and get right in the slipstream it just drives away from you.

I don't like not knowing stuff so had a quick read. The McLaren F1 competed in the 1996 Super GT "All Japan Gran Touring Car Championship". Perhaps it would have been better classed against GT Sport Gr2 especially since we already have cars from two eras in that class.
The full fat, short-tail, F1 GTR would be 8-10 seconds per lap slower than a current GT500 at somewhere like Bathurst.

In period, the F1 GTR only ran with 450bhp, and plenty of ballast, in JGTC. Back then home grown GT500 cars where much slower than a current GTE/GT3 car.

Bought it and tried it. Love the car (my favourite racing car ever) and one thing has stuck out.

The sound is off.

It's definitely been recorded from an F1 GTR but it's too whiny and shrill. The S70/2 engine is one of the best sounding engines ever made and it's just not right.

It was the second car I bought on the day of the update, only today did I buy my 3rd, just been driving the F1 at Race C all week and Autopolis endurance.

100% this.

What do you think about the car? Is it competitive with other gr.3 cars?

Fast on the straights, nice acceleration, crap in curves, crap on brakes, mega-crap on tire wear.

Nerf incoming, wouldn’t go for McLaren as a manufacturer in FIA because of it.

Another dust collector.
