Thread merges?

Hi,

As per the thread title, could the mods merge posts at all rather than close similar threads? Or is that not an option on VB here? It's just I have seen a few threads of late that have been closed due to being the same thing when they could have been merged :)
 
We do merge threads quite often, but it requires quite a bit more work than hitting the "Close" button. It also may not be immediately obvious to the moderator which other thread the topic should be merged with.

To expand on this a bit, if a new thread isn't far enough along and hasn't provided any new information, there's really no reason to merge them, hence why it's simply closed, typically with a link to the existing thread.

Part of the reason I asked the question was that I have been a mod on VB forums in the past and I wasn't 100% sure if the merge function was a mod or part of the base tools; also due to the fact I have seen a few threads of late that could have been merged.

You all do a great job considering the size of this site so 👍 to you all :)
