Hi guys. I've noticed that several songs contain a very distinct descending three-tone xylophone sample. I vaguely remember it being used in a PBS Thirteen commercial a long time ago, as well as being in a song called "American Beauty" by Matrix & Futurebound (Which I will link to, below), and another song I heard the other day, but forgot the name of. I'm just wondering where this sample started and if any other songs use it (Which is very likely).

 
According to whosampled, that song samples the song Dead Already by Thomas Newman from the soundtrack of the movie American Beauty.

And on that site it lists two other songs which sample that song.

There's an iphone ringtone that's very similar.

 
Ah yes. "Dead Already" is very familiar. I never saw American Beauty, the film. Also, I don't remember hearing this in Madagascar. Anyway, thank you very much for linking me to that. I've been thinking about that sample forever.

I don't remember that in Madagascar either, nor do I remember the several disco songs apparently in it. I may need to watch it again and look out for these songs.

According to the YouTube comments on "Already Dead" it's when the lion (forget his name) is hallucinating and sees steaks falling from the sky.

I think I heard that song in a medicine commercial now. God.
