Thrustmaster T300 and Customer Service

Monday of this week I got a T300RS GT Edition, this is the second one I have purchased. I got it unboxed all connected only to find out the buttons on the wheel don't work. I contacted customer service and at the same time ordered an add on wheel from Amazon. The next day I got a response, send pictures, sales receipt, and videos of the malfunction. Sent all the requested info and waited. The add on wheel arrived and I mounted it to the base, it worked perfectly! To me this means the wheel that came with the unit is the problem. Customer service sent an email that night telling me the connecto has been pushed in, the wheel and servo base are both damaged blah blah blah. I emailed them back and said I had isolated the problem to the wheel and no issues with the base. They responded by telling me the add on wheel caused the damage and I need to send all of it back to them for evaluation...why do i feel like this is some kind of scam???
