I'd love to see PD put in an option for Time Penalties. I'm not certain how they do it, but it would certainly clear alot of things up. Have a page in the options menu, that allows you to turn on certain penalties. Wall knocks, AI contact, off tracks.

while most wouldn't have that turned on, if GT4 is supposed to be on-line, it would certainly help clear up OLR issues.

Just my thoughts.

personnally i wouldn't have it on but maybe fo as you say online races it could be good as people wouldn't cheat so much and would use more skill.

They defenitely do need to make sure people race fairly and in the way that they would race were it real life.
Rules or penalties are the only way.
Rules need a neutral to enforce them and automatic penalties could become frustrating if not sensibly implemented. PD really need to think long and hard about this.
OK you will be able to find people of a like-mind that want to race fairly and honestly (many of those people will no doubt use these forum pages) but you also want to be able to race strangers that you have no knowledge of without them acting stupidly and generally making the replays look rubbish. :)

I dunno... Most of the times, like for the 2 hour races, since I'm 10 minutes ahead of the competition, I like to keep the game running while I grap a pop, go to the watercloset, etc, and during that time, I'm normally hit by the AI cars about 10 times. It's not my fault, I swear! I just don't like seeing my precious on the grass, it makes it look like it's abused and abandoned...:(

I agree this would be a good way to moderate OLR.
We wouldn't have wall-riders, grass-cutters, or just plain cheats dominating.
It would be great if there were an option for turning it off for your "presonal racing pleasure."

Well, that's what Alex is saying - make it optional, just like ASM/TCS. If you like it, turn it on; if not, then don't.

I think it is an excellent idea and it would render OLR a relative breeze to officiate.

The problem is out of 10 people ( just IMO) only about 4 are GT diehards like trying to get the best times and stuff. The game would become to hard.

Actually, It would only render the OLR process fair, and cut down tremendously on cheating.
It's relatively easy to beat GT3. In some ways easier than GT2.
IT is quite easy to drive faster than the AI. It is another thing all-together to beat a human opponent fair and square.

What about adding weight like in some gt races. I know that usually is not meant as a penalty, but it is intended to balance out the competition. Personally not fond of the adding weight system, I believe success shouldn't be punished, but I want to check with others about adding weight to the top finishers. This would probably only work in a series race. One penalizing aspect that should be dumped or made optional is the oil degredation from GT3, which I think was an idea that is more deserving of being called on for being an annoyance than for being something wonderfully realistic.

The same goes for the "car-wash" as the oil degradation. If it were real looking dirt, then ok. But to simply take the magnificent sheen off of your beatiful car after a few laps and leave it looking drab and non-metallic is just ridiculous.
If PD simply must keep these features in the game, at least let us change our oil and wash our cars from the garage menu, without having to go to the "wash, oil and wheel" menu and have to sit through the agonisingly tedious "spin- spin -spin spinspinspin spin - spin -spin" and "blupblupblupblup- blupblupblupblup" every single damn time we wash our car or change some oil.
