It is probably never faster to drift, your video also quite clearly shows that with the professional race car drivers even confirming that. I'm hopeless at drifting in GT5 but can still be reasonably competitive in time trials. It is due to the fact that drifting is slower in GT5 and in real life so for performance driving, techniques teached in real world can be also applied in game to gain maximum performance. That is why in real life you in any of the regular road racing, fastest way around the track is the conventional way and same goes for GT5. Throwing cars around the race track while maintaining good levels of rear traction on corner exit is not drifting. It is one of the characteristics of the Formula GT that you have to drive it like that as it has instability so you might as well make it work for you. I haven't seen the videos of fastest laps so might have a look later to see how close to the limit the times are already. Trail braking is also a real world technique and is used by F1 drivers, it is not exclusive to GT5 physics
