I've just bought a copy of GT6 from Amazon during their sale and will hopefully be getting a PS3 from eBay soon as well. Ive never played GT5/6, only GT3/4. What are the most important things I should know coming from a PS2 and GT4 to a PS3 and GT6?

Well, now there is better IA, so don't worry too much about them. And remember, PS3 controllers are much more sensible that the ones from the PS2.

GT6 feels more like GT3 to me in terms of grip. Understeer is still prevalent in lot of cars, but not as much as GT4. You're fingers will have a tendency to slip off the triggers if you use those as accelerator and brake. Also, this could just be me, but the differences between the tracks in terms of the road surface is much more dramatic. You are far more likely to understeer on Ascari than on Apricot Hill, and far more likely to spin on Willow than on Silverstone. Part of that is the elevation changes, but the road feels a lot different and varying when compared to previous GT titles. Think of GT6 as a sort of mash-up between GTs 1-3 and GTs 4 and 5.

I would actually disagree with both those points.
GT5 AI is notoriously bad and the DS3 is regarded as the worst controller of recent times.

Don't let this put you off though, compared to GT4 the step up is amazing, especially the move to HD.
DS3 can be fixed/improved with rubber grips and clip on triggers.

AI is not better at all it is just different.
Career mode was much better in GT4.

GT5 and GT6 career modes feature too slow AI.

Licence test are way too wasy compared to GT4.

The whole game is designed for beginners. Decent skilled people are forced to go online if they look for a challenge.

I meant, I was talking about not to get worried about the GT6 AI because of it slowness.
And about the controller, it might be bad, but is notoriously more sensible then in the PS2.

I was wrong about the "better", but "improved".

You can do donuts!

Other than that, you'll have a lot of fun. GT4 had the worst physics so far, so you'll feel like in a completely new universe. And also, there is cockpit view!!

Get ready for a visual feast. Visuals are so much better than GT4.

Physics, so much better.

AI, OK but still not perfect but good fun nonetheless.

Tracks are better, well I think they are but we still need some of the greats that are missing from GT4.

Online too. I hope you have an internet connection or your game will be quite different from the one most of us here are playing.

Career mode, well I bet you'll think like us. Can we have our GT4 career mode back please. ;)

One thing is, you will enjoy it I am quite sure.

Don't let him change your mind, the ds3 isn't bad, it's just what all the "cool kids" say. Bunch of followers.

I like the DS3 alot better than the X360 one (this may be due to the rubbish control pad on the 360; I play alot of fighters which makes me value it alot.)

New PS3 owner here. I really like the ds3 compared to the ds2. But still think its way too small of a controller, my big hands get cramped if I play too long. X360 is way more comfortable to me.

Get yourself a steering wheel as it gives you a better feel for the car you are driving......

Explain me why exactly he shouldn't get worried about GT6 AI because of it slowness?

They mean the same thing. I just don't agree with you.
We have a several threads around here where people express severe concerns on the gameplay, yes because of slow AI.

Good fun?

Maybe to the person that never played on the PS3 to not worry about being harder to play due to the main differences beween the systems of GT4 and GT6?

There were differences between GT4 AI and GT5. I played a couple of days when I learned the new GT5 AI gameplay. The GT6 is notoriously easier. Thats why. To not need too much practice,
Anyways, you always have the time trials and the seasonal events.

Sorry for the discussions, I accept your point of view.

I probably will not be getting a wheel anytime soon because a good one is extremely expensive.

So the DS3 is better than the DS2 though right?

It's harder to break a DS3, I have 2 and a non feedback controller, 1 of the DS3s is broken. I have several DS2s, all of which are broken in some way. All 4 of the face buttons on the DS3 are lighter than the DS2, same goes for the sticks, so it really comes down to you which you prefer for driving. A wheel is a better bet, honestly, but paying for it is easy compared to working out where to put it. :irked:

I hope my rambling helps in some way.

You can get a DFGT wheel for a reasonable price.....I got mine on EBay.

I really need an h-shifter though. Ever since I started driving manual, driving automatic just makes me cringe and takes 80% of the fun out of driving for me.

You can drive manual without an H-Shifter. Almost everyone I know uses manual and paddle shifters for racing, best of both worlds easy fast shifting while having both hands on the wheel, if only you could also slip the clutch a bit :)

Ok so for the record, let's say clearly GT6 AI is designed to let you win no matter what you do.
GT6 offline races can become boring pretty fast if you have decent skills from GT4.

OP you have been worned.
