I am a competent driver who can win the World Championship, but I cannot get the hang of driving karts. I seem to spend as much time going sideways as I do going forwards. Could anyone give me some tips please.

I found it takes smooth inputs. Throttle control is a must. Karts do not respond well to twitchy (nervous) thumbs. Much time can be gained powering around turns with 1/4-1/2 throttle vs brake & accelerate off the apex. You can also add ~5Kg over the rear axle. Once you have your aah-ah moment you will likely see improvement in times with other cars as well.

As many have said in other threads practice practice practice. It is how the aliens achieve those seemingly impossible TT hot lap times.

Good Luck!

The best way to learn Karts is to practise and practise is the key here like SCClockDr said.

Lift off the throttle before you turn in and feather the brakes as you come to the apex. Guide the kart around the corner and ease back on the throttle once you've hit the apex and the corner opens up.
Someone will probably say this is the wrong technique, but it works for me :)

Dready1984, I used that same technique in real life karts as well as in game. It works for me 2 :)

It seems in kart, the smoother the throttle and brake control you have during cornering, the faster you achieve. It seems different from road cars. The karts just turns with no body roll, it just turns lol so carrying momentum with smoothness in the corner seems to work better for karts.

I also notice that the optimal racing line for kart is a bit different than the cars. Early apex seems to work better for karts than for cars. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Physics-wise, karts brake at the rear only, so they behave much differently. Smooth inputs, as said many times; don't just lay the steering controller all the way over, you actually have to steer. Slight lift for little chicanes, but don't lift completely as it'll get way sideways or even spin. As much braking as possible before turning.

Errr...plenty of karts have 4 disc brakes... IRL and GT6.

Like others have said, Practice Practice, Practice! Look online for "how to gold ____ event" . Im sure someone will have posted their 1st place video. Watch it and take note of what lines they use, when they brake, when they accelerate coming out of a turn.

Also, even tho its supposed to work the other way around... I would do some redbull standard events. With aids off. they have some similar driving styles to karts , as far as sliding out and stuff

Amen Brother. For the record I have had both ahh-***t and ahh-ah moments. Well said Clock

Thank you all for your advice.it worked to a large extent. I still cant say I enjoyed the races, I don't like fiddly little tracks, but I have managed to win the first 2 kart series so far.

and cheat!!! I did so bad one race it was my first kept replay vid.

The brakes operate on the back wheels which has a locked axle (no differential) so brake when in a straight line before the corner then steer smoothly round the corner NB you won't need to brake for most corners - only the sharpest ones require braking, for other corners a slight lift of the throttle should be enough.

Adjust the gearing - more top speed for Stowe and slower for GT Arena to improve your acceleration.

Smooth inputs on throttle, steering, and brakes.

Transmission tuning if you're having trouble keeping up with the AI in the championships.

Take a proper driving line.

If you have the blue line on, don't always brake when it tells you to. The karts stop really well, and can take certain corners faster than the line tells you.

Pitch and catch... Use what little power you have to straighten out the kart at the apex, then hammer down and you're off like a scared rat... Love karts on and off of GT6 👍
