So for some odd reason, I can gold the Goodwood X2010, I can knock off the Gold Bugatti and Super License tests, I can easily dominate the Nascar series, the mini enduro races by 2 laps lead, but a simple National B Mission race, the most frustrating of all (not even the 125 shift karts were as bad).

The setup by PD is ridiculous on it, nevermind how the other GTR can magically overtake you even as you outcorner it (must be a tuned GTR running against a stock one), the car becomes a wimp when you are behind it, letting you outcorner it, the minute you pull ahead, it suddenly gains 100 extra hp and easily makes up the distance.

It actually took me a while to even complete it because the GTR made me understeer and DQ to try to get away, and when I tried to enter the corner at the apex, the "magical GTR" hits me from behind and the game DQ's me for car collision? That actually happened so many times with me getting DQ for the other GTR hitting me from behind, the fenders, and pit maneuvering me when I'm ahead. Must be Bernie Ecclestone running these regulations...

In short, my rant is over, does anyone have tips or suggestions for getting gold on this Mission Race?

Talking about the last one on the first set of mission races?
I think I overtook him in the second corner and just ran a steady lap. Got gold by a few seconds without him overtaking me.
Just don't try to drive a bonkers fast lap and relax...you have more than enough time.

It drove me nuts as well, the fact the AI suddenly went into berserk mode when I passed him, has happened on a few other events for me as well, am wondering if they have boost turned on, and as we know from online racing, boost + a halfwit behind the wheel never ends well

Haha, lets calm down and enjoy the New Year everyone. I did try some more laps of it, out of 6 runs, I only managed to complete 2 in Silver time because I still kept on getting DQ'd because the AI would hit me? (someone missed a logic class in college PD...) I tried to not go too crazy, but the AI never actually overtook me, it attempted to, and because I've ran that track so many times from other races, I know the right line and I try to take the fastest line to it, but it just feels like the other GTR has extra horses under the hood.

I will try again later, I think having the AI constantly on your tail pressures me into some driver errors or speeding too fast... Though if I go too "slow" I'll get bumped and be DQ'd

try to overtake the gtr at very apex of the 4th turn try overtaking from the inside...if you pulled that off it will lessen the chance of the gtr hitting you bcoz you will be farther away than normal and i think its just bad programing bcoz the gtr will only hit you if you have same racing line with it...memorize its racing line and avoid it...i got my gold bcoz of that overtake

Hmmm, ^ that makes more sense though. I think with the racing line as IRL on track days, on all corners you go out-in-out, meaning you go from the outside of the track turn in and go outside edge again. Everytime I do that with the GTR, I overtake around the other AI and move out, but the AI refuses to yield to me and moves out, so I get pitted or DQ'd. I will have to learn a new line just for that one mission. Thanks though will try.

not just that...its bcoz its your 1st chance to pass it, in that turn...the gtr is in middle of the road in that turn..if you overtake from the outside (its right side) you'll lose a lot of time bcoz of the understeer...if you just follow it from behind in that turn an overtake it after the turn exiting fast you'll lose a bit of time its ok...but if you race the a.i. to that corner (i used the ai for cushioning, overtaking from its left) you'll have a chance to get the gold...for me its that moment that will dictate if you will get the gold or not

just remember its programmed to speed up in straights and take the same racing line everytime in every corner...just avoid it...after you took that overtake just maintain your distance from the gtr...look behind you, memorize its line...it might look like its hitting you intentionally but your just in its way...

i musta gotten lucky when i did this. i know i did it first try, but i am not even close to gold s license on any of the 5. which puts you far ahead of me in the driving department. i just tried it again and sure enough i got rear ended and DQd 3 consecutive times. I know i did this early on, i wonder if the updates have anything to do with it?

i tried it again using that overtake advice and avoided its line...i only got silver but the a.i. didnt pass me or even hit me once...you can do it faster with practice

When I did the game the first time round, I struggled quite a lot with is one due to the other one being so much faster once you overtake it (through the first few corners it is typical slow AI) but managed it eventually. After I started the game again, I managed that one the first time without adjusting my usual driving style or lines.....I overtook the AI going into Turn 4 (the one just before the first longish straight) and, while he came up on me quickly on the straights, I pulled away a bit on corners due to my usual very late braking (late brake, turn in and hope it sticks lol). Not sure what else to suggest, I guess everyone has that one event that they struggle with: on my first save, it was the Mission Race with the Dino around Apricot and keeping on getting spun by the AI; on this save, so far, it has been the Mito Seasonal race (have got up to IB without spending a credit on tuning/tyres....except for the credits spent on tuning the Mito to gold the seasonal!!!).

The one other thing I would suggest is to change the view you use. On this save, I have started using the cockpit view for the first time but, for mission races, licences etc, I have had to go back to using the 3rd person view (the chase cam) as I can't get the corners and lines precise enough. Perhaps that may be something that may help...or not. And I have to include the standard advice: Keep at it and you will eventually get it!! (sorry, but I had to :P)

I came here hoping for some helpful insight for the GTR Shoot-out at Silverstone. I am less than three tenths away from Gold - after at least three hours trying. I have been banged about by the AI car too a couple of times. I think it has got quicker as my times have gone down.

It does, same issue with the Mission race with the Miura pitted against the modern Lambo, I golded after getting a silver, the lambo speeds up with you.

I did manage to eventually gold the GTR challenge. What worked for me was being unconventional. Once you get ahead of the GTR, do your own thing and don't be pressured, and keep an eye out for the blind spot indicator as the GTR magically will gain horsepower and cut the distance on the straights. I found that when I was being pursued, I tried so hard to maintain a farther distance I made small errors or slight changes in my driving style and those added up to a slower lap time. Good luck mate.

It does get quicker as you get quicker. I didn't really have much problems with this though. I simply did my own thing, and let the AI do his.
You are way quicker than him in the turns, so use that to your advantage.

I know the medal times went way down in one of the updates.
My main problem seems to be turn 6 and 7, as well as the snaking curves right after that. In both situations I seem to end up with a much lower speed than when I look up a video of someone else doing the mission.
Any tips on this?

With the snaking curves (I assume you mean the S-Shaped one?), try and keep a straight line through it. You can brake pretty late into it. Turn 7 is the fast right hander? That one I am always slow through no matter the car but I usually build up enough lead in the previous complex. I tend to be very late in braking (my normal driving style) which helps me but am sometimes slower exiting corners due to this. The best advice really is: Buy the GT-R that is used in the test and spend some time driving Silverstone in free run/time trial (or see if it's available as a courtesy car in time trial mode)...get used to the track, the corners, find out the braking points, how much speed to carry into a corner etc.

Would the car be just stock? or does it have any setting to make it understeer more than regular, cause I've heard that that seems to be an issue in the event...

I found this to be one of the more enjoyable races, just 2 GTR's on a new to the series circuit, but then again these cars would now be my No.1 dream car instead of Porsche (excluding hyper-cars). Like everybody else says you should be in front by the 2nd or 3rd corner, and then run your own race. If they overtake, or pull level on a straight then don't panic as you will easily out brake them. I think I will go back and try this again.

That is what I do, but so far my best time was 23.9 or so. Would've been gold in the pre-1.02 times. Now it's about 3.1 seconds too slow though...

I only started GT6 with the latest update, so I cannot comment on time changes, due to updates, but from what the OP has written he is a far better GT driver than me, and I found this relatively easy. The way I avoided getting hit by the AI was to move off the racing line on the straights. He overtakes and then I just get him back undertaking in the corners. With GT6 AI there appears to be a marked advantage in letting the AI through, rather than blocking, and then overtaking in the corners.

Driving the GT-R correctly involves a nice slow pace through the corners and getting on the gas early out of them. Then you need to let the AI pass instead of trying to block. You will almost always get him back on the corners if you take them properly. Understeer is huge in this car so go easy in the corners and...look through your corners so you know when to accelerate.

Lol. It does make it more challenging. I have found in several races that the AI cars often come back and challenge with a vengeance - I expect it now - which I think is more realistic - PD do seem to be trying.

Finally! At the third attempt this early morning I went gold in the GTR Shootout. 2:19.743; that will do nicely thank you. I had learned that the on-screen advice about easy on the corners, and gain on the straights was at the very least, mis-leading, lol. I gained by outbraking - hammering the corners - and the main advantage which gave me the gold, was to pass the red GTR right on the inside of the 3rd corner, this meant holding the car late and wide into the second corner to get the best position for the 3rd. This one really made me think and drive to my limit, and these kinds of races are always the most satisfying to win - aaaaahh. Yippykyay! I shall have a wee dram now. :-)

Interesting points humpty.

Well, I finished it last night with 1.5 seconds to spare. I had two corners where I lost quite some time and my final corner would have been a spin-out if it weren't for the forced on SRF. All in all I feel like I could replicate it though :)
