can anyone actually tell the diffenence between normal tires and sports?

I have never actually bought sport tires and have often wondered just what they bring to the game.

It's more noticeable than that. The basic rule of thumb for tire grades is: 0.5"/lap/axle. In other words, putting tires one "T number" higher on both ends of the car is good for an average of 1 second per lap.

This is a rule of thumb only, but it works for estimation purposes.

And it's even MORE noticeable than that. "Normal" tyres have no T number (T0 are Sims, T1 are Sports, T2-T8 are race). Slap a set of sports tyres on and you're looking at roughly a 5% improvement in time. And in Formula One terms, that's the difference between Pole Position and European Minardi. 'Nuff said.

I'll note that my limited experience with sims, have proven themselves to be worthless. I was getting better traction and wear with Normal tires than I was with Sims.

actually the word "drift" is not in the definition for sims in the game. The sim tires are the worst for grip in the game. They are meant to simulate "real" tires, where as normal tires (and the rest of them) are more arcady and offer even grip.

so "normal" and "sport" tires are both arcade tires, and dont offer realistic grip.

btw neon, you went OT :p
