Ok, So i'm fairly new to drifting. But i can get it done. I've seen a few videos from other people drifting, and their tires seem to have so much smoke. My tires don't make 1/3 of what i see in the videos. Are they using different tires? Maybe something else? Not the biggest problem, but i think it looks quite cool xD. Thanks for any help.

Mostly normal drifters would put N2's, but I think their Hp is around 300-500Hp(sounds normal enough) but people often add the hardest tires and max up the HP. but who knows, Im just a stock guy XD
edit: Smoke is very helpful in competitions

the reason behind tire smoking is the settings of the car.
try the drift setting section, people might help you setup the car.
what car you use?
Edit: Drifting isnt always about tire smoke but rathe the line, angle and speed.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
it took me 3 months to drift decently.
cars that can drift good as a starter
-RX7, any kind from 97, as the older models had crap suspension
-Sil80
-200Sx(180sx,s13,s14,15), remeber theses car have really soft suspension
-Nismo 270R
thats my selection anyaways.

Well my main drifting cars are my Viper SRT10, BMW Z4 and my BMW M3 CSL. I'm using road tires on each because they are the easiest for me to drift with.

luftrofl
I don't follow your logic, except for possibly camber angles... :indiff:
lower the car and lower the tire pressure = Tire hitting the ground more= more smoke?

Hmm that makes sense(assuming you mean to lower the rear ride height in a RWD car), but the tire pressure isn't a suspension adjustment :) .

I'm not sure HOW much more smoke would come from lowering the rear ride height, thought I'm sure you'd get some.

Who knows, well because if you have no or small air in your tire that will mean more rubber will hit the ground

What track u go to matters too.I think El cap gives you the most smoke.
i noticed this when i was doing the second to last special conditions race ... going sideways around one of the dirt corners, then came out unto the track / tarmac... lots of tire smoke... i dunno if it was because of the rally tires or what

What? Does that even make sense?

Correct me if I'm wrong here...but no matter how much you lower your car, the tires are going to be supporting the same weight of the car...correct?

Now if you set it up as a front/rear weight balance, that would make the tire smoke I guess...

maybe adding a balast to the rear and compensating for it with the correct settings?

weigh down the back a bit (not too much) to get the back tires in contact with the road more.
