Tire traction

Hey just wondering I've noticed that I produce almost all of my fastest laps when my tires are actually yellow. Now I'm not tire traction specialist, but it would make sense that your tires would produce the most traction when they are green wouldn't it?

Has anyone else noticed whether or not peak traction is produced during the green or yellow phase of tire wear? Just a question I been wondering about.

Yes, green to yellow is best, but it's a fairly short optimal time between fully warmed-up and overcooked. Usually one lap with optimal medium-slick tires.

People complain about the tire wear schedule, but it is just compressed to match the shorter-than-real races. It's actually fairly realistic considereing the shortened timeframe.

I've noticed that my times are quicker and that the car just "feel's" better when the tires are in the yellow phase.

I like that slight little bit of slipping the tires give in the yellow phase.

As in real racing :gcar: we can talk about this as the tyres coming In and Out :burnout: Being in when you reach Green/Yellow period :D

My guess
Blue= cool tires (near race ready)
Green= warmer tires (nearer to race ready or race ready)
Yellow= warm tires (race ready)
Orange= caution
Red= bad

They couldve made the tire thing better in this game. i think its unrealistic that temp and wear are included in the same spectrum. you should be able to have cold worn tires, but with this system its not possible. there should be a separate thing that tells whether the tires are warm, cold etc. Or even better the actual temp, then there should be a different thng showing wear. the color system they use now would be good for showing wear.

With something like this it would be easier to distinguish between different kinds of tires. softer warmup faster, but wear quickly, etc. Right now its hard to tell.

Also i think the street tires, or sport tires should have a much longer life. Possibly around 50 laps on an average car. This is more realistic. The huge disadvantage with these tires though is the inferior grip levels.

you do know though that there is a middleground. you may be losing a lot of time per lap with a level of wear that isnt enough to make you spin. you need to pit before all of the time lost per lap adds up to more time than it takes to make a pit.

BTW, i usually see tire wear as tons of understeer till i can barely turn. front tires should always wear quicker than rears. they get much more stress. are you spinning the rears in corners too much?

I tend to set my best times with the tyres just in the yellow phase, but I don't know if that's grip or just being in 'the groove' from the tyres being green.

I think for the purposes of the simulation the tyres remain at a constant temperature and the colour simply represents wear. I agree tyre temperature and wear should both be shown and be able to be managed.

I'm also pretty sure the rapid wear is because of the shortened nature of the races - the races are much shorter than they would be in real life, so the tyre wear is accelerated to match.

My best times occur when the tires are yellow. I have found that you can still push the car hard until actual red shows up then it is time to slide around the turns.
