Tire Wear 2.08

I have mixed feelings about the new tire wear rates.

For one, longer lasting tires means closer races and more time spent on the track, which is almost always a plus.

But on the other hand, there's little advantage in using one of the extremely lightweight cars now because the main advantage was staying out of the pits longer than everyone else. Sure, the lightweight cars stay out longer too, but its to the point where if you dont drive fast enough, the more powerful cars will blow you away even after they pit.
How is having more than one type of competitive car a downside?

Tired Tyres
Agreed. That's what happens in the real world. In endurance races, pitstops are for fuel.

Tyres are designed to last as long as appropriate for the rules.

In LMP1 because you can't change to tyres at the same time as refueling so you double/triple or quadruple the tyre stints as required by driver changes.

In categories where there is no such restriction, they change tyres each time they pit.

Either way, the pitstops are always fuel limited and never tyre limited.

Well, in the real world(tm) drivers have a lot to do making the tyres work (aka keeping them at the right temperature) and are managing tyre wear by their driving style.

I'd suggest listening to the Radio LeMans 24 hours podcast when they do interviews with private teams. They triple stints tyres because they are expensive, because they do not have unlimited pit access (pits are shared) or for a couple of other reasons.

In the European V8 races tyres get shot after 30 minutes from time to time for example, and in the ADAC GT Masters they'll have to last 60 minutes.

In 2.07 I found that if you do a 9:00 lap round the Nordschleife, SS and RS tyres lasted about the same.

Anyway, I'll have a go at the Nurburgring 4 hours later today and see how I manage.

After all it's mainly getting used to the new tyre wear. I'm just a bit worried 1 hour Arcade races, the AI can do a full stint on tyres which would be a shame for me because I hardly find the time to do a one hour race in the first place.

But eventually I'll have to adjust to the new rules. But real life(tm) has not very much to do with it.

Different categories have different tyre rules. In the case of Le Mans the tyres are constructed to last 3/4 stints because of the nature of the pitstop rules. They are designed to last as long as a driver's stint is in the car. It is not efficient to do it any other way.

If there was no restriction on changing the tyres at the same time as refueling, the tyre manufacturers would make softer tyres to last one stint.

Finished the 24h Nurb b-spec race a few hours ago:

- my bobs drove the GT-R R35 TC with 642 horses (also exactly 642 PP). They went 4 laps on racing softs. (Best laptime 8:22:070)

To me the tire wear is "ok" now :)

I just did some b-spec grinding on the 4 hr Nurburgring. I used the R35 Touring Car. Full tune, I think 701pp. Racing Med.

Fastest lap 7:59
Average lap 8:40

My 2 high level bobs got 5 laps between pits. The 2 lower levels got 4.

When I do the race (A-Spec) same car and tune. I average about 8:05 a lap and can easily get 6 laps between pits. Before 2.08, using the same settings, I got 3 laps.

I believe now with the suspension being updated (Adjusted the changes in control characteristic when altering vehicle height from standard height.), it seems more "real" which affects tire wear more "realist".

1st post, long time lurker. Thought it was time to join.

Anyone that got the impression that apart from the durability change, the tires wear differently?
Pre 2,08, I had cars set up to even tire wear (50/50), but now, with the same setups, my fronts wear faster than the rear by quite much?
I've noticed that the turn in feels more direct with 2,08. Can that have some effect? I mean, better front grip do kill your fronts more since you can push them more..

Anyone have the same experiance?

I did, earlier today. I definitely would have worn the rears faster than the fronts pre 2.08 with my setups I ran.
