As usual I am not afraid to ask, so here is my list of questions about tires:
(note: no speculation about the tire model, good or bad, it is about actual facts)

Unless otherwise stated, I am referring to Daily Races in Sport Mode

Observed facts: (do you agree?)
F1: Tires wear off (if the race setup says so) This seems pretty clear.
F2: At the start of the race, tires are cold, grip is reduced. But no way of telling how long the effect lasts.
F3: After a pit-stop, tires are colder, easy to spin. ditto.
F4: In qualifying the tires seem to be completely constant.
F5: Spinning/Sliding overheats tires (red indicators) temporarily, but the heat seems to dissipate very, very fast. So no effect 2sec afterwards.
F6: The warm up is useful to get used to the initially colder tires (as opposed to qualifying)

Questions:
Q1: Noobs tend to wiggle around during "warm up" to warm tires - Any effect of this?
Q2: Would warming tires in the short window between auto-drive and first corner be a good idea?
Q3: Does picking up dirt have any effect? (Apart from the sound of gravel hitting the car)
Q4: Is there any effect of temperature (apart from the initial 'coldness') during the race?
Q5: Is there any change in tire performance during qualifying? temperature/gravel/etc.?

Any further facts/questions/ideas???

F2 isn't quite right.
Tyres are slightly cooler than optimum at the start of a race or coming out of the pits, but they are not cold. Cold slick are like driving with no grip at all.

F5
The red indicator could well just be too show that you have spun your tyres as it has no noticeable impact on tyre performance at all. Tyre heat cycles while driving actually seem to be either entirely absent or serious dumbed down.

I've a lot more on tyres, but need to log-off. Will be back.

It would be interesting to know exactly when your tires are at full operating temperature.
I will say my fastest laps in a race are always between laps 2 &3

Come on man, how cold is cold? If Rubber was really cold, like -200C, it might just crumble, crack or shatter.
You talk about optimum, but the game might not have this concept at all.
If I feel like it, in my next race, I will just stand around for 10 minutes and see if they get any colder than initially. Maybe I'll wait for winter time, too.

What's cold on a racing slick? Below almost any normal air temperature, below 50 Celsius.

Slicks don't switch in temperature wise in anything like the same way road tyres do.

It could be that I’m imagining this but it almost feels like even when the race conditions indicate that tyre wear is off, at the start of a race the tyres feel almost exactly the same as “cold” tyres when tyre wear is on. They just don’t wear anymore after warming up. Like I said though, I’m not sure if this is true or I’m just insane.

Your not imagining it. The tires are definitely cold with less grip at the beginning of the race until the second lap even with tire wear off.
Yesterday in the one make race at DragonsTail II it was really noticeable as almost all the corners were downhill along with the downhill sweepers.
