Today it came all together and so I pulled the trigger for a single time trial event: while I was wondering whether I would like a new Nissan-inspired wheel by Fanatec I did remember that the "Nissan Z Performance '23" needs some love and tuning. In stock condition it drives rather bad, at least in my opinion and in GT7. As the new official time trial offered me the McLaren GT4 at Spa I was done.

So, here is the idea: everyone is invited to go for a time trial to Lago Maggiore West Reverse and use the forementioned "Nissan Z Performance '23" with Sport Soft tyres and and a maximum of 670 PP. Please activate penalties strong and save the replay of your best lap if possible. No NOS (only @ElectricNaz 😉) and no engine swaps allowed (didn't check).

This one is inspired by the ATAQ series we had some months ago but combines it with a more simple approach we use sometimes for the "Clash of the Titans" races. I hope to get some of the known and beloved members to participate and for some new friends. This is only for fun, so cheating is useless.

End of this competition will be somewhen at 3rd of August. All you have to do to participate is send an in-game-screenshot of your fastest lap time. Once you have published your lap time you are not allowed to post another one. (Why 670 PP? I will share a decal by @ikon_313 with an ATAQ logo that can be used to show that you mean it and it shows the numbers 670...)

Feel free to ask or contact. Regarding the tuning I am optimistic that some skilled participants will share a few ideas... 🙄 Have a good time and ATAQ!!! 🏁

Ooooh, I'm all over this!

Currently in the 1:29s. I have no idea about the flow of this track. No idea where the times will drop to. Probably very, very deep into the 1:20s.

THOUGHTS AFTER SHAKEDOWN RUN
  • Stay away from High Lift Camshafts and Racing Cranks - the power increase is not worth the PP cost
  • Stage 3 weight reduction then put a bunch of the weight back on - no PP penalty for putting the weight all in the rear!
  • How much / little weight? Not sure yet. I'm currently running at 1238 kg / 2729 lbs
  • Fully customizable limited slip differential makes this car A LOT less garbage

REAR DIFFUSER DEBATE
  • Debates will break out over whether to use the rear diffuser
  • FOR: the diffuser gives more downforce potential and better acceleration at top speed due to drag reduction
  • AGAINST: the diffuser costs ~14PP that could go into power or brakes

GEARBOX DEBATE
Summary: Go with the Fully Customizable Racing Transmission because this is not the Tokyo East Grind.

My extensive testing at Yaz Marina for 700pp builds (don't tell @smoothbore12 ... ), showed me that even at a track with straightaways that long, you are better off with the Fully Customizable Racing Transmission. Note that the straightaways are noticeably shorter here. The extra acceleration you get beats the extra power you could bring. This will be a race to see who can get to ~240lph / 150mph the quickest.

RACING BRAKE KITS VS NO BRAKES
  • *Racing brakes continue to be useless because they cost too much PP. Maybe at 800pp+ they are OK Come on PD...
  • I just fit the Racing Calipers, roll my eyes at PD and carry on
  • You can spend that PP on weight, power, downforce, gearbox, aero, etc
  • However, you can make an argument for upgraded brake kits because we are limited in tire choice - usually you can make up for lack of braking with extra grip
  • Maybe the Sports Brake kit + the Racing Calipers could be viable.

*Note that I will suck at braking forever.

WHICH TURBO?
  • Don't know yet
  • My shakedown run was with the High RPM Turbo with Anti Lag set to Strong because I got sidetracks and forgot to buy the other ones
  • Good arguments for all of them
  • Low RPM because monster torque and more immediate acceleration (I may commit to this with strong anti lag because of silliness)
  • Medium RPM for overall balance
  • High RPM + anti lag also quite balanced
  • Will have to see which gives the most hp and torque for the least PP

Well it's too hot to drive atm but I've stuck all the parts on and made a suitable livery...
